Homes and Volunteers Needed for Home and Building Tour


Organizers of the annual Globe Historic Home and Building Tour are looking for volunteers, and for homes to be included in the tour.

Homes built before 1950 and homes that are unique  because of their architecture may be included in the tour which is scheduled for March 9 and 10. They will need details about the history and heritage of your home. You can be the host at your house during the tour or you can allow volunteers to do the job.

Van drivers, ticket sellers and host home helpers are also needed.

To nominate your home or to volunteer for any of the needed positions, call the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce at 425-4495.

Area Newspaper History to Be Discussed at Hardscrabble Presentation


The next lecture in the Miami Hardscrabble series is  Wednesday, January 16 at the Bullion Plaza Museum in Miami.

Donna Anderson will talk about the museum’s new display, the original Linotype machine purchased by the Arizona Silver Belt in the mid-1930’s.

The discussion will include the history of the two major newspapers in the area through the years, the Arizona Silver Belt and the Arizona Record. She will also talk about  why the purchase of a Linotype was a major development in newspaper history around the world.

The Hardscrabble and First Friday series of historical presentations are free.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident Saturday afternoon at Cedar and Broad Street. One driver was cited.

19 year old Filaree Otis was arrested for DUI at a traffic stop late Saturday night

Officers are investigating a theft report taken at a residence on Collins.

Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call Saturday evening about an incorrigible juvenile at a residence on Washburn. The juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

21 year old Marcus Ortiz of Mesa was arrested Friday night for domestic violence/assault in connection with a disturbance at the Apache Gold Casino.

Deputies are investigating a burglary at a residence on Highway 60.

Gary P. Wolf of Globe passed away Saturday morning at Heritage Healthcare Center. He was 64.
A Memorial Service is pending with Lamont Mortuary.

Former Miami resident Esther Lomeli Chavez passed away January 3 at Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center in Phoenix. She was 93. She is survived by her husband Frank; 4 children; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Esther Chavez is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Man Shoots Himself at CVRMC

OB Friday January 4,2013 at approximately 5:07 P.M. the Globe Police Department received a 911 call from Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Staff of a man who entered the emergency room lobby and was shooting a weapon. Officers from Globe Police Department, Department of Public Safety and Deputies from the Gila County Sheriffs Office responded to the location. Officers and Deputies arrived and completed a security sweep of the hospital.
Upon entering the emergency room they saw medical staff providing aide to a male subject It was learned that this male subject had entered the emergency room lobby holding a gun and removed a bench seat from the lobby to just outside the main entrance of the emergency room. The male subject then
caused a self inflicted gunshot wound to himself that was fatal. There were no patients, staff or citizens injured.

Gila County Fair Committee Meeting January 8


The Gila County Fair Committee will have an open meeting on Tuesday (January 8) at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce. The meeting starts at 6:pm.

Produce Truck at Holy Angels Saturday from 10 to 2


The produce truck will be at Holy Angels Parish Hall tomorrow (Saturday) from 10:am to 2:pm. 

Holy Angels Parish Hall is on Sycamore Street behind Leonard Paul’s Pizza.

Nobody was hurt in a single vehicle accident yesterday morning on Highway 60.

Globe Police arrested 71 year old Robson Wilson for leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a hit and run reported on December 21.

24 year old Brittany Bowan was arrested yesterday for fraudulent schemes.

Officers took a shoplifting report at a business on Highway 60.

Obituary


Isaiah Lee Dosela of Peridot passed away December 30 at San Carlos Indian Hospital. He was 31. He is survived by his wife Irna; 7 children; and 7 brothers and sisters.
The wake for Isaiah Dosela is Sunday at 4:pm at the Nellie Gilbert residence. The funeral is Monday at Freedom Holiness Church in San Carlos.

Arboretum History to be Discussed at January 4 First Friday Program


Boyce Thompson Arboretum Executive Director Mark Siegwarth will be the guest speaker for the January 4 First Friday program.

He will discuss the history of the Arboretum, founded in the 1920’s by mining magnate Boyce Thompson.

The program starts at 6:30pm  at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center.

The First Friday programs are open to the public at no charge.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday morning on Cherry Avenue and 3rd  in Country Club Manor. One driver was issued three citations.

No injuries were reported in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Highway 60/70.

Globe Police arrested 54 year old Michael Lee of Apache Junction for disorderly conduct after an incident on South Hospital Drive.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Glen Edwards for attempted burglary at a residence on Colt Drive in Six Shooter Canyon.

Deputies are investigating a burglary on San Carlos Drive.

Obituaries

Hortensia B. Escobedo of Globe passed away Monday at Scottsdale Healthcare-Shea in Scottsdale. She was 83. She is survived by 9 children; her brother; her sister; 23 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Visitation for Hortensia Escobedo is today (Thursday) from 6 to 7:pm at Lamont Mortuary. Rosary will be on Monday (January 7) at 9:30am at Holy Angels Catholic Church followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00.

Nathan Rustin of San Carlos passed away December 23 in Phoenix. He was 44. He is survived by his daughter; his son; his mother; 2 sisters; 2 brothers; and 4 grandchildren. The wake for Nathan Rustin is Friday at 2:pm at the Nora Cassadore residence. The funeral is Saturday at 1:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.

Police Log


Globe Fire Department put out a structure fire about 1:15 yesterday afternoon on East Street.

Globe Police arrested 43 year old Sheryl Robles yesterday for DUI.

42 year old Jason Winters was arrested on failure to ay warrants for issuing a bad check and criminal trespass.

22 year old Vance Mata was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for DUI.

Officers are investigating an assault report and a report of shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Highway 60.

Another two vehicle non-injury accident occurred about an hour later at Pine and Broad Street.

There was a two vehicle non-injury  hit and run accident around 3:00 on Highway 60. The case is under investigation.

A non-injury three vehicle collision occurred on Highway 60 around 6:15pm.

Last night a Globe Police Officer observed a street race on East Ash Street. Both cars were located and stopped. 22 year old Arthur Epperson was arrested for racing. 25 year old Tyler Pearce of Mesa was arrested for racing and an outstanding warrant. 23 year old Jeffrey Singleton was arrested on a DUI  warrant.

Globe Police arrested 42 year old Albert Anzaldua  for domestic disorderly conduct late last night after a fight at a residence on South Third Street.  Anzaldua also had 5 outstanding warrants.

54 year old Michael Lee of Apache Junction was arrested for criminal trespass yesterday at a business on North Broad Street.

Officers are investigating an aggravated assault report and criminal damage at the skate park.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 year old Jennifer Herrera on a failure to comply warrant for possession and use of drug paraphernalia.

A deputy took a report at a residence on Kachina Trail about a theft that occurred in the Seven Mile Wash area.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Renaldo Woodie of Globe on a failure to comply warrant for unlawful imprisonment  and assault with intent to injure.

Obituary


Carmelita Tonto of San Carlos passed away December 27 at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix. She was 46. She is survived by her sons Peter and Perry Tonto; her sister; her brother; and 1 grandchild.
The wake for Carmelita Tonto is Saturday at 4:pm at the Marcus Goode, Jr. residence. The funeral is Sunday at 2:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.
