The Globe School Board meets Wednesday at 6:pm in the High Desert Middle School Auditorium.


GFD Seeking Information from the Public in Arson Investigation

The Globe Fire Department says it is treating the January 1 fire on South Fourth Street as arson.

Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a three vehicle accident yesterday afternoon in a business parking lot on Highway 60.

Two people were arrested after a domestic disturbance last night on Escudilla Drive. 44 year old Bobbi Marsteller was charged with domestic violence/disorderly conduct. 25 year old Robert Williams was arrested for disorderly conduct.

27 year old Misty Manuel of Goodyear was arrested for assault yesterday at a residence on Baseline Spur.

Officers are investigating a fraud report, and a hit and run into a wall at a residence on Sixth Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office served a warrant to 22 year old inmate Jonathon Stephenson for misconduct involving weapons, possession and use of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are investigating a report of animal cruelty taken on Ruth Avenue; thefts on Central, McKinney and in Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park; and criminal damage on Hunt Avenue and at the Gila County Juvenile Detention facility.


Obituaries

Ernestine Hernandez passed away January 1 at her home in Miami. She was 75. She is survived by 5 children; her brother; 4 sisters; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Ernestine Hernandez is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Russell Leon Demers of Claypool passed away December 17 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Phoenix. He was 80. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; 3 children; his step son Glen Williams of Globe; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Russell Demers will be held Saturday (January 11) at 3:pm at Family Fellowship Church.

Supervisors Meet Today

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets today (Tuesday) at 10:am at the Gila County Courthouse.

Pastor Holds Community Meeting Tuesday in Tonto Basin

Gila County Supervisor Michael Pastor will hold a Community Meeting Tuesday at 5:pm at Tonto Basin Elementary School.


Dr. Jeremy Rowe Returns to Miami Hardscrabble Series

Dr. Jeremy Rowe will return to the monthly Miami Hardscrabble Series next Wednesday, January 15.

His presentation will include more pictures of the very early days of Arizona.

It begins at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center.

The event is free with light refreshments following the program.


Miami Council Work Session Tonight

The Miami Town Council will have a Work Session tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

The only item on the agenda is a discussion and recommendations to staff about updates and changes to the proposed Town of Miami Personnel Manual.


Police Log

No injuries were reported in a two vehicle collision yesterday afternoon on Highway 60.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision Saturday evening on South Hill Street.

Last night Globe Police arrested a juvenile in connection with a burglary at a residence on North Broad Street.

On Saturday, Globe Police took a report of a theft. After an investigation the item was recovered and returned to the owner.

48 year old Josph Root was arrested Saturday for trespassing at a business on South Hill Street.

22 year old Aubrey Moran was arrested on Friday for disorderly conduct on North Main Street.

27 year old Gilbert Rivera was arrested in the area of Hackney Hill on warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct/assault.

Officers are investigating an assault that occurred early Saturday morning in the area of South and Third streets; a report of telephone harassment; and a burglary on East Monroe.

On Saturday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50 year old Joseph Jayne on a contempt of court warrant for attempted shoplifting.

Deputies are investigating a disturbance at Javalina Hill; a theft at a residence on Mill Road; trespassing at a residence on Highway 188; trespassing at a residence on Montecito; and trespassing at the Yellow Hair mine.

CCYS Basketball Registration

Registration for CCYS Basketball takes place today (Friday) and tomorrow at Fry’s. Sign up between 5:30 and 7:30pm today and 1 and 3:pm tomorrow.

Your last chance to register will be next Saturday, January 11 during the skills evaluation. That’s from 8:am to 3:pm at the Bullion Plaza.

Deputies are investigating a report of harassment reported at a residence on Highway 188, and criminal damage on Hopi and on Marlin Drive.

Globe Police are investigating a domestic disturbance on South Patricia Drive; a theft on South Sutherland; a burglary on Desert Drive; a report of fraud taken at a business on Highway 60; and criminal damage at a business on Highway 60.


Obituaries

Gilbert Quade, Sr. of Coolidge passed away December 24 at Hospice Family Care in Casa Grande. He was 80. He is survived by his daughters Phillipa Quade, Carmelita Victor and Mary Casoose; his brothers Matthew and Ned Quade, Sr.; and 13 grandchildren.
The wake for Gilbert Quade is today (Friday) at 4:pm at the Phillipa Quade residence. The funeral is Saturday at 10:am.

Lyle Leroy Copeland passed away December 31 at his home in Globe. He was 58.
A Memorial Service for Lyle Copeland will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 11:am at Bullman Miles Funeral Services in Globe.

First Friday Presentation About Chief Talkalai

Retired Gila County Historical Museum Director Bill Haak is the guest speaker at the First Friday program this Friday (January 3) at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum.

The presentation is about Chief Talkalai, the elderly Chief who lived with his extended family at an encampment at the west side of Miami during the early days of the community.

Haak has a large group of pictures that he will be showing along with many facts about the early life of Chief Talkalai that most people do not know.

The first Friday programs are presented to the public free of charge at the beginning of each month. 

Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy light refershments after the presentation

Apache Bow Hunters Event This Saturday

The Apache Bow Hunters will hold the first leg of the Arizona Traditional Triple Crown tomorrow (Saturday).

There will be a shooters’ meeting at 8:45am followed by shotgun flights at 9:00, 10:30 and 1:pm.

The fee is $30  for adults and $20 for youth.

Registration is from 7 to 8:30am.

Tri City Fire Department responded to a fire yesterday afternoon on Railroad Avenue.

Last night Globe Police arrested 72 year old Geraldine England for domestic violence/assault and disorderly conduct at a business on Hospital Drive.

26 year old Randall Philpot was arrested at a residence on Escudilla Drive for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a residence on Haskins Road and a theft at a residence on South Fourth Street.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 34 year old Brenda Barber on a contempt of court warrant for disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating as assault reported at a residence on Highway 188.

Police Log

Local fire agencies put out a structure fire early this morning on South Fourth Street.

Nobody was hurt in a hit and run accident yesterday afternoon on Highway 60.

Last night Globe Police arrested 23 year old Joseph Lovato at a business on Hospital Drive for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

24 year old Erik Diaz was arrested at a traffic stop for DUI.

Officers are investigating a domestic disturbance on Gillette Street; a burglary at a business on Hackney Avenue; a burglary at a business on Broad Street; and shoplifting at a business on Hill Street.

Pinetop-Lakeside Police arrested 26 year old Anthony Martin of San Carlos on failure to comply warrants for assault and false reporting to law enforcement.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33 year old Jesse Contreras at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park for disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident at a residence on Hoopes Road; criminal damage on Pinal View Drive; and a report of threats taken at Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park.


Obituary

Ernest Whitehead of San Carlos passed away December 27 at Restora Hospital in Mesa. He was 71. He is survived by his half brother Donnie Dosela, Sr. and his half sister Velma Bush.
The wake for Ernest Whitehead is Saturday (January 4) at 9:am  at the Sandra Antonio residence in San Carlos. The funeral follows at 1:pm.
