Humane Society Charity Pool Tourney


The High Desert Humane Society is having a Charity Pool Tourney on Sunday at the Huddle Sports Bar.

Sign up is at 1:pm. Entry fee is $10. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

There will also be a buffet style taco bar, raffles, and a 50/50 drawing.

Family Fun at Democratic Rally


The community is invited to an evening of family fun tomorrow (Saturday) from 4 to 8:pm at the Cobre Valley Country Club.

There will be free food, free swimming, a watermelon eating contest  and music by the Miami Big Band Sound.

Democratic candidates from across the state will auction off their favorite homemade pies and cakes.

Free Back to School Clothing


The Gila County Cinderella delegation has been collecting clothes for their Back to School clothing drive.

The community is invited to come to Tap Into It! Performing Arts Center today (Friday) starting at Noon. 

You can gather as many items as you like at no cost. It’s at 201 N. Broad Street in Globe.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday at Highway 60 and Main Street. One driver was cited for failure to control her vehicle to avoid an accident.

Globe Police arrested 61 year old Lillian Mull at Walmart for retail theft.

42 year old Martin Cassadore was arrested for disorderly conduct last night at a business on North Broad Street.

Officers are investigating criminal damage to vehicles on North High Street and on East Maple.

Miami Police arrested 53 year old Barney Absher on a warrant for indecent exposure.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Cory Steveson on a failure to appear warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended licesnse.

Deputies are investigating a report of a beer run at the Claypool Circle K.

Globe Active Adult Center Activities


Today (Friday)  is Watermelon Day at the Globe Active Adult Center. Stop by for a slice at 11:30.

The Center will show the movie “Dear John” at 12:30.

Obituary


Manual S. Stevens, Sr. passed away July 27 at his home in Peridot. He was 67. He is survived by 7 children; his sister; 2 brothers; 26 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
The wake for Manual Stevens, Sr. is tomorrow (Saturday) at 4:pm at the Magalita Swimmer residence. The funeral is Sunday at 2:pm at Burdette hall.

Police Log


The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 59 year old Linda Mitchell for domestic violence/disorderly conduct after a disturbance on Jess Hayes Road.

Deputies located a vehicle stolen from Thatcher and arrested 23 year old Kendra Hartnett for possession of stolen property.

33 year old Vanessa Stapleton was arrested on failure to comply warrants for assault and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault report taken at a residence on West Ridge and a report of harassing phone calls taken on Wilson Place.

Globe Police arrested 43 year old Elvis Kenney for shoplifting at the downtown Safeway.

52 year old Ray Robles was arrested for aggravated DUI.

22 year old Adrian Mata was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

Obituary


Former San Carlos resident Harry J. Tonto passed away July 28 at his home in Phoenix. He was 74. He is survived by 3 children; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Harry Tonto is Saturday at 7:am at San Carlos Miracle Church. The funeral follows at 10:00.

Salvation Army Day Care Accepting Applications


The Salvation Army Day Care Center in Globe is accepting applications for their preschool & after school programs. The programs are for children ages 3 to 12. Morning and afternoon snacks as well as lunch are provided. 

The State licensed day care is open weekdays from 7:30 am to 5 pm. All employees have First Aid/CPR Training, Food Handler training, and Fingerprint Cards.

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday morning on Broad Street near Murphy Street. One driver was cited for improper use of a left turn lane and driving with a suspended license.

There were no injuries reported in a two vehicle accident at Ash and Hill Street.

Another two vehicle accident occurred yesterday evening at the intersection of South High Street and East Ash Street.


Miami Police responded to a call about a dog bite on Reppy Avenue. The dog owner had several cuts and bite wounds on her arms.Officers found that the dog had been stabbed several times. An investigation determined that 26 year old Adam Keller was responsible for the wounds on the dog. He was charged with animal cruelty.

Globe Police arrested 52 year old Keith Williams for domestic violence/assault.

25 year old Lindsey Castro was arrested for felony theft at a business on Highway 60.

21 year old Hillary Garcia was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct.

Officers are investigating a report of domestic assault taken at a residence on Yuma and a burglary at a residence on Gleason.

Mesa Police arrested 51 year old Bernice Mata on a child support warrant, and a warrant for burglary and possession of stolen property.

Fiesta Sub Committee Meets Wednesday


The Town of Miami Fiesta Sub Committee meets tomorrow (Wednesday) at 6:pm in the Miami Town Council Chambers.



Traffic Restricted to One Lane Wednesday on Ice House Canyon Road


Traffic will be restricted to one lane tomorrow (Wednesday) between 6:am and 2:pm on a portion of Ice House Canyon Road.

The City of Globe will install  new water equipment in that area but there will be no interruption in water service.

Police Log


Miami Police detained and referred two juveniles after an investigation into the burglaries of three homes. An adult suspect is also being investigated.
The suspects broke into the homes, fried up some food, watched television and then left, but not before taking a few items. Several pieces of jewelry and televisions were recovered.

Three was an accident with minor injuries yesterday morning at Hackney Hill and Gleason. One driver was cited for failure to yield.

A Fed Ex truck was reported stolen yesterday morning. The vehicle was found about an hour later. The case is under investigation

Globe Police arrested 29 year old Erlinda Ramirez  for felony shoplifting yesterday at Beall’s Outlet.

36 year old David Dewey was arrested yesterday for criminal trespassing and a Graham County warrant for aggravated assault.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a business on East Mesquite Street and a report of child endangernment taken at a residence on South Second Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a sex offense taken in the arera of the Globe Police Department and a theft report taken in the area of Freeport McMoRan.

Obituary


Former Miami resident Frank Thraen  passed away July 24. He is survived by his wife Frances; 3 sisters; 5 children and 9 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Frank Thraen will be held Friday at 4:pm at Arizona Community Church in Tempe.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Globe Active Adult Center Activities


Globe Active Adult Center is having a Paperback Book Exchange today (Monday). If you have paperback books that you’ve already read, bring them to the Globe Active Adult Center. The more you bring, the more you can swap.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) Bess Bennett will talk about some of the new telephone scams. Learn how to protect yourself at this presentation that starts at 11:am.

Police Log


One person was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center after a two vehicle accident on Highway 70 around 3:pm Saturday.

There was a one vehicle injury accident around 4:pm yesterday on Highway 60. No further information is available.

Also no information available about an injury accident around 3:15 Friday afternoon on Highway 60.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident Saturday evening around 6:45 on Highway 60.

Miami Police and paramedics responded to a call about an unresponsive man at a residence on Van Dyke Street. They arrived just as the man became combative . It took all three officers and three paramedics to control him and prep him for transport to the hospital. The case is pending.

Miami officers and Globe Fire Department responded to the Bullion Plaza building after a report of a large bang sound. They found the power out but no other damage.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 27 year old David Bread for aggravated DUI.

25 year old Nikita Thompson  was arrested Saturday evening at a business on Hospital Drive. Thompson was charged with criminal damage.

Officers contacted a juvenile Saturday night near Fegan Street in connection with a burglary report. The juvenile was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and taken to the juvenile detention center.

Globe Police are investigating an assault report taken at a busienss on Ash Street; a burglary at a residence on Fourth Street; and shoplifting at a business on Hill Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft report taken in the area of Maple Leaf Street.
