Summer Splash at Community Center Pool

The Globe Community Center is hosting a Summer Glow Splash at the pool today (Friday) from 7 to 10:pm. It’s for ages 13 to 17.

There will be games, open swimming and food.

Admission is $2. You will need to bring your school ID, but it doesn’t have to be from Globe or Miami.




Summer Youth Musical Theater Performances in July

The Summer Youth Musical Theater Program presents “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” on July 12, 13 and 19.

Miami Swimming Classes

Miami’s Hostetler Pool is offering swimming lessons during July.

Classes for children 3 to 5 years old are from 5:30 to 6:pm Monday through Thursday, from July 8 to July 18.

Classes for children 6 to 12 are from 6:15 to 6:45pm Monday through Saturday.

The cost is $25. Sign up at the pool or at Miami Town Hall.

Holiday Trash Collection Schedule

Right Away Disposal will not provide collection service on Independence Day, July 4 in the City of Globe.

If your service falls on that day, then you will receive service on the following day. Friday service will also be pushed back one day to Saturday.


Meet Journey of Hope Bicycle Riders at Hamburger Fry

The Gila County Historical Museum is having their monthly hamburger fry today (Friday) beginning at 5:30pm.

After the dinner you can meet 35 bicycle riders who will be cycling through Globe as part of the PUSH America program, Journey of Hope, serving people with disabilities.

These  young men spend their summer break traveling from the West to the East Coast, stopping each evening at communities along the way


Obituary

Felicitas Sifuentes passed away Tuesday at her home in Miami. She was 92. She is survived by her children Stella Guevara, Eva Fresquez and Richard Sifuentes; her sister; 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

The funeral for “Felice” Sifuentes is tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:am at Miles Funeral Services Miami.

Globe SummerFest

The Globe SummerFest will be held tomorrow (Saturday) from 5 to 8:30pm. It will be on Oak Street in downtown Globe.

The carnival-style event features music, games, cupcake walks, burgers, root bear floats and iced treats, water balloons and more fun to coll you off. This year there will also be a Cardboard Car Show and a family movie.

Other activities include a Watermelon Carving Challenge and a Downtown Sidewalk Chalk Challenge.

The Miami High School football club is having a car wash today (Friday) from 10:am until 2:pm at Fry’s.


Police Log

Last night Globe Police arrested 20 year old Thomas Dorame for domestic violence/assault after a disturbance on Ruiz Canyon.

22 year old Justin Grinder was arrested yesterday morning for shoplifting.

Officers are investigating a delayed burglary report taken at a residence on Fifth Street; a theft at a business on Highway 60; and shoplifting at a business on North Broad Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office served 24 year old inmate Michael Travis with a child support warrant.

Deputies are  investigating an assault between inmates at the Gila County Jail; criminal damage to county property on Apache Avenue; and a report of unauthorized transactions on a bank card taken at a residence on Golden Hill.

Vaccines Needed to Register for School

The Gila County Health Department announces that the State of Arizona is no longer providing vaccines for underinsured children. If you have children in this category, please contact your family doctor to get the shots necessary to register for school.

The Gila County Health Department can provide some of the shots your child may need but they are in short supply.

Bring your child’s immunization record and your insurance card when you visit their office. It is located on Apache Avenue in Central Heights.

Lt. Moya Named Interim Police Chief

The City of Globe announces that Lt. Rosann Moya has been named Interim Police Chief effective July 1 until the Globe Police Chief position is filled.

Chief Lee Kinnard is retiring from the Globe Police Department and is accepting a position as Transportation Director with the Globe School District.


Annual Fireworks Display

Freeport McMoRan announces that the annual fireworks display will take place on Thursday, July 4 at 9:pm. 

The display will be atop the historic tailings off Highway 60, across from Walmart.


Chip Sealing in Globe

The City of Globe announces that chip sealing is taking place today (Thursday), Friday and Saturday on:

Skyview Drive
Amarilla Avenue
Hackney Ave. from Highway 60 to Gleason Street
East Maple from S. Hill Street to S. Sixth Street
S. Sixth Street from E. Maple to the school property line
S. East Street from Highway 60 to E. Maple Street
Linda Vista Drive from Hunter to Roja Drive
Blazer Dr. from Crestwood to Prospect Dr.
Agave Dr. from Skyline to Sanders Dr.

Work hours are 7:am to 5:pm. Some of these streets may be temporarily closed during this process.

The City asks that you do not wash your car or water your lawn on the day before and the day the work is scheduled.

You are also asked to continue to park off the street for two days after the work so that they can sweep excess material.

Miami Fiesta Sub Committee Meets Today at 6:PM

The Town of Miami Fiesta Sub Committee meets today (Thursday) at 6:00 in the Miami Town Council Chambers.

They will discuss and possibly act to hand over the management of the Miami Fiesta to the Miami Genesis Board, as directed by the Miami Town Council

The Miami Fiesta will be held on September 14.


Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision yesterday morning on North Broad Street.

43 year old Martin Cassadore was arrested yesterday at a business on East Ash Street for disorderly conduct, criminal nuisance and threats and intimidation.

Officers are investigating a domestic disturbance that occurred at a business on Broad Street; a delayed shoplifting report taken at a business on Highway 60; a burglary at a residence on East Saguaro Drive; and a theft at a business on Highway 60.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61 year old June Howe after a disturbance on Hoopes Road. Howe was charged with assault/domestic violence, disorderly conduct, possession of medication and promoting prison contraband.

24 year old Michael Travis was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for driving with a suspended license.


Obituary

Buck Kitcheyan, Jr. of San Carlos passed away June 21. He was 36. He is survived by his mother Geri; 3 brothers; 2 sisters and his grandmother.
The wake for “JJ” Kitcheyan is tomorrow (Friday) at 4:pm at the Geraldine Kitcheyan residence. The funeral is Saturday at 10:am in the Rice School Gym.

You Can Still Register for Summer Reading Program

Registration is still available for the Globe Library Summer Reading Program.

This Wednesday and Thursday (June 26 and 27) the library presents “Burrowers Dig into Reading” with a special guest from the Arizona Game and Fish Department.


Special July 4 Activities at Globe Pool

The Globe Community Pool will have a special day of fun to celebrate July 4.

The pool opens at 1:00pm. Activities include a pole run, 3 legged racing in the water, whiffle basketball and diving for sodas and quarters.

Miami School Board Meets Tuesday

The Miami School Board meets Tuesday at 6:30pm in the Miami High School Library.


Supervisors Meet Tuesday

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday at 10:am.

The Supervisors will adopt the $95 million dollar 2013-2014 Tentative Budget.

The agenda also includes a $3,000 donation from BHP to the Gila County Recycling and Landfill Department to be used to purchase parts for the County’s Refurbished Bike Program.


Police Log

There was a hit and run accident Saturday around noon on East Ash Street.

Nobody was hurt in two separate traffic accidents on Ash Street on Friday around 4:15pm and 6:pm.

Miami Police arrested 24 year old Tim Peterson for assault/domestic violence, criminal damage, endangerment and unlawful imprisonment.

25 year old Orlando Tuffly was arrested by Miami PD for burglary and outstanding warrants.

Yesterday afternoon Globe Police arrested 19 year old Zachrie Edmiston at Copper Country Mobile Home Park for attempted aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct with a weapon and DUI.

30 year old Matthew Widner was arrested for domestic violence/disorderly conduct and criminal damage at a residence on Cactus Drive.

24 year old Shanna Zaragoza was arrested for shoplifting last night at a business on North Broad Street.

46 year old Delbert Hinton was arrested Saturday afternoon for disorderly conduct.

42 year old Raymond Parrish was arrested late Saturday night for domestic violence/aggravated assault at a business on Ash Street.

Globe PD arrested 33 year old Lee Deiters on a child support warrant Friday night after a foot pursuit.

23 year old Daniel Garcia was arrested on a contempt of court warrant for disorderly conduct.

50 year old Rose Logan was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a residence on Blake Street; criminal damage on Saguaro Drive; a burglary on Mesquite Street; a burglary on 2nd Street; and a report of trespassing at a residence on North Broad Street.

On Saturday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 year old Armando Martinez for possession of marijuana and a Graham County warrant for DUI.

40 year old Joe Hurst was arrested on Friday on a contempt of court warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are investigating a delayed domestic violence report taken at a residence on Colt; a theft from a vehicle on Franklin; and two incidents of assault between inmates at the Gila County Jail.

The Department of Public Safety in Tucson arrested 46 year old Lynn Moore of San Carlos on a failure to appear warrant for possession of dangerous drugs, use of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Russell Road Surfacing

The Gila County Roads Department is surfacing Rusell Road beginning today (Monday) and continuing through August 19.

The surfacing work takes place between 6:am and 4:30pm Monday through Thursday.

There will be 30 minute delays. Heavy truck traffic will be entering on Hospital Road onto Russell Road and exiting on Kellner Canyon, then Ice house Canyon and ending at Jess Hayes Road.
