Police Log

A Department of Public Safety Officer arrested 45 year old Johnny Boggs on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct-fighting.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating domestic incidents reported on McKinney and on Ironwood Drive; a theft at a residence on Hopi; and a burglary at a residence on Russell Road.

Globe Police are investigating a theft; a delayed report of harassment; and a delayed report of an assault taken at a business on North Broad Street.


Phoenix Man Arrested for Trying to Set Pickup Truck on Fire

A Phoenix man was arrested last night for trying to set a pickup truck on fire.

32 year old Justin Juarez was denied alcohol service at an establishment on North Broad Street because he was intoxicated. He got into an argument with another patron and was asked to leave. When Juarez went outside, he took a 5-gallon gas can from the back of a pickup and poured it over the truck. He tried to ignite the gasoline with matches but was unsuccessful.

Juarez fled the scene but was apprehended about 30 minutes later. He was booked into the Gila County Jail on charges of attempted arson.


Payson Area Man Arrested for Sexual Assaults Reported on November 21

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection with sexual assaults reported on November 21.

On that day deputies responded to a call at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center about the possible sexual assault of two young girls ages 9 and 6. The children were taken to the Phoenix metro area for exams and interviews.

The children had been staying with a family member in the Payson area while their mother was working in the Phoenix area. One of the girls told their mother what happened as they were going back home to Globe.

On Wednesday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at a residence in the Round Valley sub-division south of Payson. 66 year old Robert Dyer was arrested for child molestation, sexual abuse and furnishing harmful items to a minor. Dyer is being held on $500,000 bond.

Sheriff’s Detectives in both Globe and Payson developed enough information to execute the search warrant and take Dyer into custody.

The case is still active and investigation will continue.


Local Toastmasters Club Has Open House

The Copper Talkers Toastmasters Club will have an Open House this Saturday (December 7) at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. It’s from 11:am to 1:pm.

Registration for the event is $5 and it includes lunch.


Christmas Concert This Saturday

The Copper Cities Community Players will present their annual Christmas Concert at 2 and 7:pm on Saturday (December 7). It will be in the historic courtroom theater at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts.

Obituaries

Jossephine Dosela of San Carlos passed away December 2 at Promise Hospital in Mesa. She was 69. She is survived by her children Yolanda, Alvarine and Bernard Jordan, and Abigail Nelson; 2 sisters; 2 brothers; 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The wake for Josephine Dosela is Sunday beginning at 5:am at World Evangelism Revival Center in San Carlos. The funeral is at 1:pm.

Angela Ruth Flores of Globe passed away November 24. She was 49.
A Memorial Service for Angela Flores will be held Thursday, December 12 at 2:pm at Bulman Miles Funeral Services in Globe.


Museum Open House This Friday

The Gila County Historical Museum in Globe and the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center in Miami are holding a joint Christmas Open House this Friday (December 6)  in place of the regular First Friday program. 

It’s from 4 to 7:pm.at the museum in Globe.

Police Log

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 31 year old Kieran Payton for assault.

56 year old Rebecca Hinton was arrested for shoplifting at a business on highway 60 and a warrant for shoplifting.

48 year old Joseph Root was arrested on warrants for criminal trespass.

Globe Police are investigating a theft and a hit and run collision.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old inmate Jeffrey Horlacher for assault.

23 year old Timothy Watko was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for aggravated DUI.

A brush fire was put out yesterday afternoon in the area of Broadway in Claypool near KIKO.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault at the Gila County Jail; reports of threats taken on Ash Street, Elam and on Calle De Loma; a burglary in Miami Gardens; and criminal damage on Springfield Road.



Obituaries

Coulter G. Anderson passed away November 29 at his home near Globe. He was 75. He is survived by his wife Donna; 5 children; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Visitation for “Guy” Anderson is Saturday at 11:am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The funeral is at 1:00.

Edna Owens passed away Monday. She was 83.
Visitation for “Jackie” Owens is Saturday at 9:am at Central Heights Baptist Church. The funeral follows at 10:am.

GAAC Craft and Bake Sale

The Globe Active Adult Center is having a Craft and Bake Sale on Thursday and Friday from 8:am to 1:30pm.


Miami Hardscrabble Presentation on December 18

The Miami Hardscrabble Series will have a presentation on Wednesday, December 18 by Dr. Steve Sempken about Geology.

The free presentation starts at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum in Miami.

Light refreshments will be served after the program.


Police Log

Yesterday morning Globe Police arrested 42 year old Kenneth Brown at a business on Highway 60 for organized retail theft.

23 year old Morgan Powell was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

50 year old Charles Henson was arrested yesterday for indecent exposure.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of animal cruelty; a report of harassment at Miami High School; and burglaries on Nell Drive, Woodward, and at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park.

Globe School Board Meets Wednesday

The Globe School Board meets Wednesday evening with a Public Hearing followed by a Regular Meeting and an Executive Session.

The Public Hearing is at 5:45 and is about the Revised 2013-2014 budget.

The Regular Meeting starts at 6:00 with an Executive Session immediately following the Regular Meeting.

GCC Holiday Schedule

Gila Community College will be closed for the holidays beginning December 14 and will reopen on December 30.

The spring 2014 semester begins on Wednesday, January 8 and registration is now underway.

Students can register at the Gila Pueblo Campus in Globe or the San Carlos Campus Monday through Friday from 8:am to 5:pm.

Supervisors Meet Today

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets today (Tuesday) at 10:am.

The Supervisors will review the bids for County advertising, publications and printing for 2014.

The agenda also includes Resolutions accepting Highway Easement Deed grants for Forest Road 199, also known as Houston Mesa Road, and for Forest Road 64, also known as Control Road.

Last night Globe Police arrested 21 year old Michael Jimenez for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

24 year old Dillon Zimmerman was arrested at a business on South Hill Street on warrants for driving with a suspended license and disorderly conduct.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a business on North Broad Street; a burglary on North Main Street; a burglary on West Turnbull Turn; and a report of fraud.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary on Rail Road Avenue; a burglary on Arroya Avenue; a theft at the County Community Services Department; and a report of harassment taken at the Madera Peak Apartments.

Selma Anita O’Banion passed away November 26 at her home in Globe. She was 84. She is survived by her husband Abner; 2 daughters, including Dora Buckley of Globe; 2 sisters; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Manuela Vazquez Hinojosa Torrez of Miami passed away Sunday in Peoria, Arizona. She was 71. She is survived by four children; 4 brothers and sisters; and 7 grandchildren.
Visitation and Rosary for Manuela Torrez is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7:pm at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday at 10:am.

Dale Eugene Speer passed away November 29 at his home in Globe. He was 64. He is survived by his wife Vicky; his father “Ted” Speer; his brother; 5 children and 10 grandchildren.

Police Log

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 36 year old Ricky Vargas at a residence on North Broad Street for theft of a credit card and resisting arrest. 34 year old Stephanie Weaver was also arrested on a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

46 year old Edward Anderson was arrested Saturday night for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested on warrants  for shoplifting and driving with a suspended license.

21 year old Tyrone Moore of Kearny was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

Officers are investigating a report of fraudulent schemes; a hit and run collision reported on Euclid Street; vandalism at a residence on Adriatic; criminal damage at a residence on North Fourth Avenue; criminal damage to vehicles on West Blake Street; a burglary on East Maple Street; a theft on Euclid Avenue; and a theft from a vehicle on North Broad Street.

San Carlos Police arrested 26 year old Jennifer Herrera on a failure to comply warrant for use and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Graham County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21 year old David Blan on warrants for domestic violence threats and intimidation and disorderly conduct.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit and run reported on Pine Drive; criminal damage at a business on Highway 60-70; criminal damage to a residence on Locomotive Drive; a theft on Pinal View Drive; and trespassing at Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park.
