Globe Title 1 Parent Meeting

The annual Title 1 Parent Meeting in Globe will take place on Wednesday, February 5 in the High Desert Middle School Auditorium.

The meeting will provide information about the goals and purposes of Title 1, the Globe District’s Title 1 policy, and the standards, curriculum and assessments.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions about policies, programs and activities

Cobre Valley Republican Club Meets Tomorrow

The Cobre Valley Republican Club meets tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:30am at the club headquarters on North Broad Street.


Low Cost Rabies Clinic on Saturday

A low cost rabies clinic will be held tomorrow (Saturday) from 1:30 to 3:pm at the Animal Shelter.

The cost of the rabies shot is $10 plus the cost of a license. That’s $30 for an unaltered animal and $10 for a spayed or neutered animal. Proof is required.


VFW Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The Globe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post is having a spaghetti dinner fundraiser tomorrow (Saturday) from 5 to 7:pm.

The meal is $8. The money raised helps local veterans and veteran programs.


Fatal Traffic Accident in Globe on Highway 60

One  person died in a two vehicle traffic accident last night on Highway 60.

Globe PD says preliminary indications are that one of the cars failed to yield for highway traffic as it left the Fry's parking lot.

One of the drivers was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center and later died as a result of the injuries

The names of the people involved are not available at this time pending notification of next of kin,.

Police Log

Yesterday afternoon Globe Police took a report of a stolen vehicle at a residence on Second Avenue. After an investigation, officers arrested 21 year old Breelyn Cano for unlawful use of transportation.

Last night officers responded to a business on East Ash Street after a report of people harassing customers. 52 year old Holly Gates was arrested for false reporting to law enforcement and warrants for organized retail theft and shoplifting.

46 year old Anderson Betom was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for knowingly displaying a false license plate.

Globe PD is Hiring

The Globe Police Department is currently hiring police officers.

They have recently changed recruitment procedures to allow applicants year-round. There are currently several openings.

Tonto Basin to Have Primary Health Care

Starting February 5, Tonto Basin will have access to primary health care without having to drive 30 miles to see a doctor.

Payson Regional Medical Center’s Tonto Basin Clinic will be located on East Stephens Way.

The Payson Roundup reports that a board certified family nurse practitioner will see patients on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30am to 5:30pm.


Police Log

Last night Globe Police took a report of an assault at a home on North High Street. An investigation led to the arrest of 32 year old Michael Guerrero. Guerrero was charged with domestic violence/aggravated assault and child abuse.

18 year old Korey Pastor of Tonto Basin was arrested last night for shoplifting at a business on North Broad Street.

18 year old Sean Salazar-Perez was arrested at a location on Maple Street for use of marijuana and use of dangerous drugs.


56th Annual Gila County Gem and Mineral Show This Weekend

The 56th Annual Gila County Gem and Mineral Show will be held from today (Thursday) through Saturday, January 18 at the Gila County Fairgrounds.

It will be open from 9:am to 5:pm on Thursday, and 9 to 7:pm on Friday and Saturday.

The show’s main room features more than 50 displays. There are also door prizes, vendors, food and more.

The cost for adults is $3 or $5 a couple.

Police Log

Globe Police arrested 41 year old Augustine Calvillo on warrants for child support and driving with a suspended license.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 50 year old Charles Fee on a warrant for kidnapping, domestic violence and misconduct involving weapons.

Obituary

Victoria Kitcheyan of San Carlos passed away January 7 at Chandler Regional Hospital. She was 73. She is survived by her 4 children.
The wake for Victoria Kitcheyan will be Friday (January 17) at 4:pm at the Kitcheyan residence. Rosary will follow at 7:pm. The funeral is Saturday at 1:pm at Burdette Hall.

Charles Fee Charged with Kidnapping

A Globe man has been formally charged in connection with a hostage situation on January 7.

50 year old Charles Fee was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) after the Gila County Attorney’s Office received a no bond warrant from the Globe Regional Justice Court. Fee was charged with kidnapping, a dangerous crime against children, misconduct involving weapons, domestic violence aggravated assault, and threats and intimidation.

On January 7, Fee allegedly held a man and several women and children hostage because he thought the man had stolen a gun from him. He wouldn’t allow anyone to leave until the gun was returned to him.

Gila County Sheriff’s deputies responded after a 911 call and Fee was taken into custody without incident.

The case has been forwarded to the Gila County Attorney’s Office’s Office for prosecution.

VFW Spaghetti Dinner

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Globe will have a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, January 18 from 5 to 7:pm.

The meal is $8 which includes salad, garlic toast, dessert and beverages.

The money raised will help local veterans and veteran programs.

The VFW will also have an American flag retirement ceremony. If you have a flag that is in bad shape, bring it to the post so that they can retire it properly.


Gila County Spelling Bee February 20

The Gila County Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, February 20 in the Miami High School Auditorium.

Winners in the county spelling bee will advance to the state competition.

The Gila County Schools Superintendent’s Office is sponsoring free GED and English classes.

The classes will be held from 3 to 6:pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting today (Tuesday).

27 year old Scott Powell was charged with DUI.
22 year old Edward Avalos was found to have an open container.
Mathew Anderson had a failure to comply warrant for extreme DUI.

41 year old Agustine Calvillo was arrested on warrants for child support and driving with a suspended license.

48 year old Joseph Root was arrested on a warrant for criminal trespassing.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office arrested 52 year old Scott Bullman for disorderly conduct, domestic violence and assault.

Police Log

No injuries were reported in a two vehicle collision Friday in the 300 block of Hill Street and a single vehicle collision at Devereaux and Maple Streets.

Last night Globe Police arrested 24 year old Zachary Granato for domestic violence/disorderly conduct after a disturbance on East Cactus Drive.

29 year old Francisco Martinez was arrested Saturday at a residence on East Sycamore on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct and assault.

41 year old Christopher Gosayun was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for assault.

On Friday, Globe Police arrested 22 year old Mercedez Ramirez in connection with a domestic disturbance at a business on Hospital Drive.

22 year old Justin King was arrested late Friday night for extreme DUI.

27 year old Cedar Polk was arrested for DUI.

Officers are investigating a domestic disturbance reported on East Skyline Drive; a report of disorderly conduct taken at a business on North Broad Street; shoplifting at a business on Highway 60; an attempted burglary on Hackney Hill; a burglary at a business on North Broad Street; and a report of harassment taken at a business on Highway 60.

The Department of Public Safety arrested 24 year old Michael Flores of Globe on a child support warrant.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38 year old Jason Murphy for theft of a credit card, fraudulent schemes and identity theft. Murphy also had a failure to comply warrant for possession and use of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident on Grover Canyon; a hit and run at Apache Trail Mobile Home Park; a report of harassment taken on Radium Drive; burglaries on Central Drive and Wheatfields Road; thefts on Golden Street, Hope Lane and Copper Lane; criminal damage on Pineway Street; and illegal burning reported in the area of Broadway Street.


Miami Town Council Meets Tonight at 6:30

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

The Council will discuss and possibly approve  proposed criteria for reducing or waiving fees for the rental and use of the Bullion Plaza Gym.

They will discuss proposals and possibly award a Bullion Plaza Gym Management Services Contract.


Globe City Council Meets Tonight at 6:00

Globe City Council meets today (Monday) at 6:PM.

The Council will consider selecting an Engineering Consultant to complete a Preliminary Engineering Study for Globe Water Distribution System improvements.

There is a Resolution authorizing a transfer of Contingency Funds to the City Budget.

Councilmembers will consider a Floodplain Ordinance and revisions to the City Code.


Miami School Board Meets Today

The Miami School Board meets today (Monday) at 6:30pm in the Miami High School Library.

The agenda includes election of Board officers for 2014.
