Police Log



One person was injured in an accident yesterday evening in the area of Broad and Ash Streets. The patient was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center and one car was towed from the scene.

Globe Police arrested 48 year old Kathy Damon of Whiteriver yesterday afternoon for shoplifting at Walmart.

18 year old Bridget Quintero was arrested last night for underage consumption. A 17 year old juvenile was also detained and released to a parent.

Officers are investigating a stolen vehicle report taken at a business on Highway 60; a burglary at a residence on 6th Street; a burglary at a business on Broad Street; shoplifting at Fry’s; and shoplifting at a business on Hill Street.

The Gila County Narcotics Task Force arrested 45 year old Anthony Curtis on a failure to appear warrant for theft.

Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a report of check fraud taken at Action Pawn.

Obituary


Delbert Allen of San Carlos passed away April 22 at San Carlos Indian Hospital. He was 50. He is survived by his wife Ethelena; his daughters Andrea and Anna Allen; 4 sisters and 3 grandchildren.
The wake for Delbert Allen is Sunday at 4:pm at the Allen residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 9:am at St. Charles Catholic Church.

The Season's First Hamburger Fry is This Friday

The Gila County Historical Museum will hold the first hamburger fry of the season on Friday at 5:30pm on the museum grounds.

Hamburgers, chips, salads, beans and dessert are  $7. This year they are asking that you use the plates provided by the museum and don't bring trays from home.

The Centennial Band will perform starting at 6:00.

GCC Arbor Day Celebration and Art Show on Saturday

Gila Community College invites everyone to the Art Show and Arbor Day Celebration this Saturday  from Noon to 5:pm.

There will be live music and Pinal Mountain Foundation for Higher Education will sell food with proceeds going to the scholarship fund.

The art show features a variety of art work by Gila Community College students and instructors.

'Dump the Drugs' This Saturday


The Copper Basin Coalition along with Globe PD and the DEA’s Office will give you the opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs at a Dump the Drugs event on Saturday.

It's from 8:am to 1:pm in the Fry’s parking lot.

STEM Festival on April 28

The Gila County STEM Festival will be held on  Saturday from 9:am until Noon at Besh Ba Gowah.

The event  helps students learn the role of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in the modern world. The STEM Festival features exhibits, hands-on activities and short lectures.

Gila County Council for Kids Mother's Day Tea


The Gila County Council for Kids Mother’s Day Tea will take place Sunday at Dream Manor Inn. It’s from 1 to 4:pm.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children. Proceeds go to help children in southern Gila County. Call 425-1490 for information.

Yesterday a Globe Police officer took a domestic violence report at a residence on Main Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft of prescription pills from a residence in Sunrise Mobile Home Park and a report of threats taken at the Little League field.

Hearing Tests at Globe Active Adult Center


Globe Active Adult Center will have free hearing  screens and hearing aid cleaning and adjusting on Thursday from 10:am until 1:pm.

Thursday is also the day for the first Picnic in the Park at the Globe Active Adult Center. They’ll be serving cheese burgers, potato salad and an oatmeal cookie. Lunch is served at 11:45. Call 425-9030 for your reservation.

Freeport to Pay $6.8 Million Damages

Freeport-McMoRan has agreed to pay nearly $7 million to settle federal and state natural resource damage claims involving the Morenci copper mine.

State authorities and federal prosecutors filed a complaint on April 24 that Freeport-McMoRan was liable for injuries to natural resources that resulted from hazardous substance releases.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Freeport has agreed to pay $6.8 million to the Interior Department’s Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration Fund. The consent decree is subject to a 30 day comment period and court approval.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision yesterday evening in the area of Cedar Street and Pine Street.

Globe Police arrested 23 year old Brandon Wright for domestic violence assault at a business on East Ash.

32 year old Arthur Downey was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for aggravated DUI and driving with a suspended license.

Officers are investigating a report of shoplifting at a business on North Broad Street; a theft at a business on North Broad Street; a theft at a business on Highway 60; and a theft at a residence on West Banker.

Miami Police arrested 22 year old Malorie Tucker for disorderly conduct and false reporting to law enforcement.

23 year old Ruben Mageno was arrested for disorderly conduct.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Larry Allphin on a failure to comply warrant for DUI.

Geraldine Graybeal passed away April 21 at her home in Miami. She was 57. She is survived by her daughter Joy and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Geraldine Graybeal will be private.

GCC Open House on Wednesday

Police Log


Local fire agencies put out a brush fire in the creek area near North Broad Street. Three juveniles were issued referrals in connection with the incident.

Nobody was hurt in a one vehicle accident yesterday at the Gila County Fairgrounds. A report was taken and the case is under investigation.

A hit and run accident yesterday afternoon in the area of  Regus Road is also under investigation.

Globe Police arrested 49 year old Anthony Elzy for disorderly conduct yesterday after a disturbance at a residence on Euclid.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating domestic incidents that occurred yesterday at a residence on Yuma Trail and a residence on Pinal Creek.

The Department of Corrections in Safford served a warrant on 30 year old Bryan Harris of Globe for failure to appear on a charge of shoplifting and false reporting to law enforcement.

Obituary


Bobby Beydler passed away April 19 at his home in Globe. He was 74. He is survived by his wife Joyce; 2 daughters; his son; 3 sisters; his brother; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Bobby Beydler will be held Saturday at Noon at the Pinal Mountain Elks Lodge in Globe.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Elks Lodge or to Copper Communities Hospice.

Gila County Supervisors Work Session


The Gila County Board of Supervisors Work Session is Tuesday morning at 10:00.

The Supervisors will discuss the Gila County Community Wildfire Protection Plans.

They will also review the Gila County Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan in consideration of accreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board.

Democrats Meet Tuesday


The Democrats of Cobre Valley meet Tuesday from 6 to 7:30pm at their headquarters on Broad Street in downtown Globe.

The guest speakers will be Gila County Recorder candidate Mickie Nye and Gila County Sheriff candidate Ray Van Buskirk.

The Democrats of Cobre Valley meet on the third Tuesday of each month.

Gila County Attorney's Office Presents Program on Crime Victims' Rights


This week (April 22-28) has been designated Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The Gila County Attorney’s Office of Victim Services will present a short program on Tuesday at 5:15pm in the Supervisors Hearing Room at the Gila County Courthouse.

School Readiness Roundup


A School Readiness Roundup tomorrow (Tuesday) will give you a chance to register your children and to get information about Kindergarten, Head Start and Early Head Start. There will also be information from health and community services organizations.

The School Readiness Roundup will be held Tuesday from 9:am until Noon at the Pinal Muntain Little League Park in Claypool.

Arizona's Geology and Minerals to be Discussed at Hardscrabble Series


The Miami Hardscrabble series continues on Wedneday, May 9 at 6:30pm at Bullion Plaza. The topic is “Geology and Minerals of Arizona.” The program will be presented by Madison Barkley, Curator of Minerology and Director of Science Education, who does the programming at Arizona Experience Museum.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon at Highways 60 and 188.

 There were no injuries in a two vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on Highway 60 in front of Fry’s. One driver was cited for driving with a suspended license and no financial responsibility.

No injuries were reported in a two vehicle accident Saturday afternoon at Kaiser Crossing. One car was towed from the scene.

Miami Police arrested 28 year old Esequiel Flores for domestic violence/threats and intimidation, endangerment and aggravated assault.

 Last night Globe Police arrested 22 year old Ashley Averill for assault and criminal damage after a fight at Globe Mobile Home Park.

35 year old John Simmons and 40 year old Trisha Simmons were arrested for aggravated disorderly conduct after a disturbance Saturday night.

22 year old Zachary Noland was arrested on failure to appear warrants for aggravated assault, shoplifting and false reporting.

20 year old Renee Bookout was arrested Friday afternoon for threats and domestic violence after a disturbance at a residence on Euclid Hill.

25 year old Eddie Godoy was arrested for hit and run.

Officers are investigating a theft from a vehicle at Irene’s Mexican Food; a burglary at a residence on South Fourth Street; a burglary at a residence on Hackney Avenue; and criminal damage to a business on Broad Street

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 year old Denise Flores for domestic violence assault and criminal damage after a disturbance in the Central Heights area.

20 year old Randy Alexander was arrested on Saturday for driving with a suspended license.

Two people were arrested at a traffic stop Friday morning. 19 year old Michael Valenzuela was charged with trespasing, burglary and resisting arrest. 21 year old Anthony Gonzales was arrested on a contempt of court warrant for disorderly conduct, possesion of dangerous drugs and resisting arrest.

Deputies are investigating an assault at a residence on Copper Street; a stolen motorcycle at a residence on McKinney; a broken window in the Golden Hill area; a theft of a gun in the area of Vanwinkle; two stolen license plates at a residence on Snedden Street; a burglary in Six Shooter Canyon; a burglary on Sharps Road; and slashed tires at a residence on Marion Canyon.
