Police Log

The Gila County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Augustine Calvillo on a child support warrant.

39 year old James Chacon was arrested on two child support warrants.

The Department of Public Safety arrested 20 year old Alexander Luz on warrants for assault, disorderly conduct and criminal damage.

Historic Home and Building Tour

The 30th Annual Historic Home and Building Tour in Globe takes place this Saturday and Sunday.

Tours leave from the train depot on Broad Street in downtown Globe between 9:am and 3:pm.

Tickets are $15, which includes admission to the quilt and antique show.

A Chili Lunch will be held Saturday from 11:am until 2:pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

The Globe-Miami Centennial Band will present a free concert at 3:pm in the Globe High School Auditorium.

The annual Antique Show will be in the Globe High School Gymnasium. It's open Saturday from 9:am to 5:pm and from 9 to 4 on Sunday.




March for Babies on Saturday

The annual March for Babies in Globe-Miami will be held Saturday at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum in Miami.

Registration begins at 7:am. A three-mile and a six-mile walk starts at 8:00.

Funds raised by March for Babies in Arizona help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, neonatal intensive care unit family support programs, and advocacy programs for stronger, healthier babies.


Final Registration for Little League

Final registration for Pinal Mountain Little League is Saturday from 10:am to 1:pm at Hibbett Sports and on Sunday from 10 to 1 at the Claypool Safeway.

Tryouts will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, March 12 and 13 from 5:30 until 7:pm.

Globe Library Needs Items for Summer Reading Program

The Globe Public Library needs donations of household items that will be used in the Summer Reading Program.

They’re looking for: paper bowls, tooth picks, empty baby food jars with lids, paper cups, glitter, clear glass cups and jars, rulers, hoola hoops, empty small Kleenex boxes, 2 liter unopened Diet Coke bottles, toy size wheels, buttons, aluminum foil and small plastic bottles.

If you have any of these items to donate, bring them them by the Globe Public Library or call 928-425-6111 for more information.


Phoenix Chorale to Perform Sunday at MHS Auditorium

The Grammy award winning Phoenix Chorale will perform at the Miami High School Auditorium this Sunday (March 9) at 4:pm. This year they will perform their Celtic program.

The concert is presented by the Globe-Miami Community Concert Association. If you are not a member, tickets will be available at the door.


Bylas Community Spring Round Up

The Second Annual Bylas Community Spring Round Up continues through Saturday..

The 5k Run, two mile walk starts at 6:am Saturday with registration at 6:15. There is no entry fee.

A horseshoe tournament will be held on Saturday. No entry fee.

Lunch will be served to everyone at 1:pm on Saturday in the gym parking lot.


Peter Bigfoot to Speak at Bullion Plaza

The First Friday program this Friday (March 7)  at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center features a presentation by Peter Bigfoot.

Peter Bigfoot will talk about his trek across the Sonoran Desert and his experience living off the land in a peaceful co-existence with nature.

The presentation begins at 6:30pm Friday evening.


Police Log

Yesterday morning Globe Police arrested 48 year old Joseph Root for criminal trespassing at a residence on Walliman Road.

The Gila County Task Force arrested three people at a traffic stop. 31 year old Joshua Peterson, 46 year old Theresa Redondo and 24 year old Christopher Reyes were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. Reyes was also charged with possession of marijuana.


Apache Bow Hunters Present Second Leg of Triple Crown

The Apache Bow Hunters will present the 2nd leg of the Arizona Traditional Triple Crown on Saturday, March 8.

Registration begins at 7:am at the Archery range off of Russell Road in Globe.

On Sunday there will be a Donation Shoot, $10 for three rounds of 15 at 9:am.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is looking for public comments about a possible passenger rail that would connect Phoenix and Tucson.

Globe to Receive $5.5 Million WIFA Loan

The Arizona Silver Belt reports that the City of Globe will receive a $5.5 million loan from the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority.

The money will go to buy new water meters and to other water and wastewater costs.

Yesterday morning Globe Police arrested 34 year old Jacob Hudson for assault at a business on Baseline Spur.

27 year old Mesha Kane was arrested early this morning for DUI.

54 year old Don Heinbokel of Montana was arrested by Globe Police on a theft warrant.

Courts Trying Out System for Pretrial Releases

The Gila County Superior Court is one of five courts around Arizona that is trrying out a new system  to help judges decide if it is safe to release defendants before their trials. They are testing a system for scoring individual defendants.

Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch says defendants who are threats to public safety should stay in jail. But those who are not shouldn’t have to stay in jail simply because they can’t afford to post bail.


Controlling Diabetes Classes in San Carlos

The San Carlos Indian Health Service and the San Carlos Tribal Diabetes Prevention Program are offering classes on controlling diabetes.

The eight week course begins Thursday (March 6) and will be held every Thursday through April 24.

Last night Globe Police arrested 19 year old Ruben Demario at a residence on Miami Road for domestic violence/criminal trespass.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Elijah Wright of Bloomington, Indiana on a warrant for aggravated assault upon a jailer, resisting arrest, identity theft, prison assault with bodily fluids and false reporting to law enforcement.

44 year old Benedict Tellez of Globe was arrested on a Maricopa County warrant for child support.

Obituary

Julia Louisa Thompson passed away February 26 at her home in San Carlos. She was 74.

The wake for Julia Thompson is Friday (March 7) at 4:pm at the David Thompson, Sr. residence in Cutter. Rosary is at 7:pm. The funeral is Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church.

Supervisors Meet Today

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets this morning (Tuesday) at 10:00.

There’s a Public Hearing on a resolution that would change the name of a private road in Globe from E. Warbington Drive to E. Del Rio Lane.

The Supervisors will proclaim March 8 “March for Babies Day” in Gila County.

They will consider adopting a resolution calling for a November election to provide funding for highways and streets.

Basic Internet Classes During March

Basic Internet classes begin Tuesday at the Globe Active Adult Center.

The classes will be held every Tuesday from 10:30 until 11:30am during the month of March. Sign up at the Center or call 928-425-9030.

Joe Arpaio to Speak at Lincoln Day Luncheon

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will be the keynote speaker at the Gila County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day luncheon on Saturday, March 15.

On Saturday Globe Police arrested 20 year old Darie Roehm for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

21 year old Deidre Hickman was arrested on Friday for domestic violence/disorderly conduct after a disturbance on South Buena Vista.

67 year old Huebert Martin was arrested Friday night for DUI.

Miami Police arrested 33 year old Roxanne O'Brien on Friday on warrants for threats and intimidation and possession and sale of prescription drugs.

Tempe Police arrested 43 year old Trini Begay of San Carlos yesterday on a warrant for shoplifting.
