Free Produce

Free produce will be available tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9:00 at Holy Angels Parish Hall.

They are asking for donations, but if you can’t afford a donation you are still welcome.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Jeffrey Kramer on warrants for domestic assault, disorderly conduct, theft of services, shoplifting, criminal trespass, and driving with a suspended license.

Obituaries

Manuel S. Torrez passed away February 24. He was 82.
Visitation for Manuel Torrez is tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Mass is at 10:00. A reception will follow at the meeting hall next to the church.
The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to local veterans organizations in Manuel’s name.


Boys and Girls Club Spring Break Day Camp

The Globe branch of the Boys and Girls Club of the East Valley will have their Spring Break Day Camp on March 17-21 from 7:30am to 5:30pm.

The program is available for parents who are looking for a safe and positive youth development experience for their kids during Spring Break when school is not in session.

The cost is $10 a day, $40 for the week. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. There is also a $25 membership fee.

Heritage Days at Tonto National Monument

The Tonto National Monument is celebrating Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month this Saturday and Sunday (March 15 and 16).

The weekend’s activities include prehistoric technology demonstrations, the White Mountain Apache Crown Dancers, and live animals and birds from the Adobe Mountain Wildlife Center.

Visitors may also hike to the Upper Cliff Dwelling on these two days.

Arizona Ranks 20th Among World's Mining Places

The annual Survey of Mining Companies for 2013 ranks Arizona 20th out of 112 jurisdictions worldwide.

The Arizona Geology blog reports that Arizona ranked 28th out 96 countries, states and provinces in the previous survey.

In the US, Wyoming, Nevada, Minnesota, Utah and Michigan ranked higher than Arizona.

Michael James Rogers of Peridot passed away March 8. He was 29.
The wake for “Mikey” Rogers is Friday at 4:pm at the Rogers residence. The funeral is Saturday at 1:pm at World Evangelist Church in San Carlos.

Mario Pete Antonio of Peridot passed away March 3 at Banner Baywood Medical Center. He was 27.
The wake for Mario Antonio is Saturday at 3:pm at the Beverly Hudson residence. The funeral is Sunday at 2:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.

MDA Camp Counselors Needed

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is recruiting volunteer counselors for its annual summer camp to be held this June in Payson.

Counselors must be at least 16 years of age by June 1.

MDA camp counselors work one-on-one with youngsters 6 to 17 who have neuromuscular disease.

This is good experience for men and women interested in entering the health care field and an opportunity to complete more than 150 volunteer hours.

Congressional Art Competition

Every spring the US House of Representatives sponsors an art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in congressional districts across the nation.

District 1 Representative Ann Kirkpatrick invites high school students in the district to participate. A panel of judges will choose the winner and that student’s artwork will be displayed in the US Capitol for one year along with other winners nationwide. Work by runners-up will be displayed in Kirpatrick’s Washington, DC and district offices.

Entries are limited to two pieces per school. Mail submissions to Ann Kirkpatrick’s Casa Grande District Office no later than April 15.

Task Force Makes Drug Arrests

The Gila County Drug, Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force made a lot of drug arrests on Monday.

The Sheriff’s Detention Staff  reported suspicious activity among inmates at the Globe and Payson jails. An investigation showed that Sydnee Lain Klabbatz had smuggled black tar heroin into the jail when she was booked. Seven other inmates were arrested on charges ranging from possession of a narcotic drug to promoting prison contraband.

A traffic stop later in the day led to a warrant to search a room at the Globe Motel 6.

The Gila County Drug, Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force seized about 26 grams of heroin, 34 grams of methamphetamine, 2 grams of marijuana, a semi-automatic hand gun, and more than $1,000 in US currency. Four people were arrested on charges from transportation of a dangerous drug for sale to money laundering.

Globe Police arrested 24 year old Dana Morton for burglary, aggravated assault and criminal damage.

35 year old Mathew Miller was arrested for shoplifting at a business on South Hill Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 44 year old James Page for theft and trafficking in stolen property.

Miami Police arrested 27 year old Faustina Pearce on a failure to comply warrant for attempted shoplifting.


Obituary

Janet M. Davis passed away March 7. She was 91.

Alzheimer's Support Meeting

The regular monthly meeting of the Alzheimer’s Support Group is on Wednesday (March 12) at 12:15pm.

Everyone is welcome, especially if you are caring for someone  with Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease.


Miami Jr./Sr. High School Parent-Teacher Conferences

The Parent-Teacher Conferences for Miami Jr./Sr. High School students take place Wednesday from 5 to 7:pm.

A guest speaker will discuss “Internet Safety” at 4:pm in the auditorium.

The conference for high school students is in the cafeteria.  The library is the conference location for junior high students.


Police Log

The Gila County Drug, Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force made numerous arrests yesterday. They include the following arrests of local residents:

44 year old Dino Horta, 22 year old Jesse Miller, and 43 year old James Evans were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession  of dangerous drugs for sale, possession of drugs for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia, and money laundering.
Horta was also charged with misconduct with a weapon during a drug offense. Miller and Evans were charged with transportation of dangerous drugs for sale.

41 year old Melissa Cruz was arrested on failure to comply warrants for issuing a bad check and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Obituary

Lifetime Globe resident Gregory Villalobos passed away March 9 at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. He was 48.
Visitation for “Gollo” Villalobos will be Thursday at 9:am at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Boys and Girls Club 5th Anniversary Dinner

The Globe Branch of the East Valley Boys and Girls Club will have its 5th Anniversary Dinner and Gala on Thursday, March 27 at Dream Manor Inn. It starts at 5:pm.

The cost is $50 for a steak dinner. Tickets are available at State Farm Insurance and the Globe Boys and Girls Club.

Search for Missing Man Suspended After 11 Days

The search for a man missing south of Young has been suspended after eleven days.

Paul Tomaso is now listed as a missiing person. The case is still active. If you have any information that might help locating him, call the Gila County Sheriff’s Office at 928-425-4449.


Police Log

Last night Globe Police arrested 49 year old Paula Antonio on a failure to comply warrant for issuing a bad check.

48 year old Alvin Goseyun was arrested Friday night at a business on Hospital drive for disorderly conduct and threats and intimidation.

67 year old William Lockwood was arrested at a business on North Broad Street for criminal trespass and a warrant for shoplifting.

The Apache County Sheriff's office arrested 22 year old William Lagunas of Globe on warrants for driving with a suspended license, unlawful flight from law enforcement, reckless driving, interfering with judicial proceedings and threats and intimidation.

Globe Council Meets Tonight

Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

The agenda includes the Tenth Amended Interim Emergency Fire Intergovernmental Agreement with the Town of Miami.

The Council will also consider  resolutions pertaining to the Wayfinding and Signage Project Proposal for the Freeport McMoRan Community Investment Fund.


Miami School Board Meets Tonight

The Miami School Board meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30 in the Miami High School Library.
