Pool Tournament Fundraiser

The 2014 Spring Gymkhana Pool Tournament Fundraiser starts Sunday (April 27) at Noon at The Huddle.

There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and cash prizes to the top three shooters.

All proceeds will go to area kids.


First Hamburger Fry of the Season Today

The first hamburger fry of the season will be held today (Friday) at the Gila County Historical Museum. It starts at 5:30pm.

The monthly event will continue through the spring, summer and fall on the last Friday of each month.

The cost is $7 a person.

The Globe Centennial Band will present a free concert at the first hamburger fry on April 25.

'Storm Spotter' Training in Globe on Saturday

A free training class will be held in Globe on Saturday (April 26) to teach people how to properly identify and report significant weather phenomena.

It’s from 10:am until Noon at Gila County Emergency Services on Apache Avenue.

Volunteer Day at Old Dominion Park

A Volunteer Day will take place this Saturday (April 26) at Old Dominion Historic Mine Park.

The community is invited to help clean trails and display areas and to secure exhibits and put up signage.

The work will start at 7:am and continue through the morning. Water and snacks will be provided.

Volunteers are asked to wear long pants and closed toe shoes, and to bring gloves, sunscreen and a hat. They can also use your rakes, hoes and clippers.

'Dump the Drugs' This Saturday

There will be another “Dump the Drugs” event this Saturday (April 26).

Bring your expired, unused and unwanted prescription pills to Fry’s between 10:am and 2:pm for safe disposal.


Summer Reading Program Volunteer Meeting

The Globe Public Library will have a meeting for Summer Reading Program volunteers this Friday (April 25) at 12:Noon.

Pizza will be provided.

American Legion Bike Day

The American Legion Riders are hosting a bike day on Saturday (April 26), beginning with breakfast at 9:am.

There will also be a barbecue at Noon, live music and raffles.


Police Log

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office received a call requesting a welfare check on a neighbor. Deputies responded and found two dead bodies inside the residence. Their identities have not yet been confirmed. More information may be released as it becomes available.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office served a warrant to 31 year old inmate Andrew Whidden for probation violation on a charge of possession of marijuana.

Globe Police arrested 24 year old Dana Morton at a residence on Hackney Avenue for a warrant for reckless driving.


Obituaries

Bernice Griego passed away April 18 at her home in Gilbert. She was 72.
Rosary for Bernice Griego will be at 3:30pm on Friday, May 2 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Mass and a reception will follow.

Ronald James Stevens, Sr. of Peridot passed away April 20 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. He was 34.
The wake for Ronald Stevens is tomorrow (Friday) at 4:pm at the Neva Burdette residence. The funeral is Saturday at 1:pm at Burdette Hall.

Benefit Car Wash for Victoria Gameros

There will be a benefit car wash for Victoria Gameros this Saturday at the Fry’s parking lot to help the family with funeral expenses.

The car wash is from 9:am to 5:pm.

Miami Loco Arts Festival this Weekend

The Miami Loco Arts Festival will be held this Friday, April 25 through Sunday April 27th.

The Miami Loco Arts Festival is a diverse, all-inclusive arts experience with artists, vendors and crafters. There will also be family oriented performances and events throughout the weekend.

Police Log

The Gila County Task Force arrested three people yesterday on drug charges. 24 year old William Stanley, 19 year old Anastacie Franco and 32 year old Jason Garcia were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. Stanley was also charged with resisting arrest and tampering with physical evidence. Franco was charged with use of marijuana and use of a dangerous drug.

Globe Police arrested 32 year old Michael Ontiveros for driving with a suspended license.



Obituary

Marcus Keelvan Antonio of Peridot passed away April 18 at Chandler Regional Medical Center. He was 28.
The wake for Marcus Antonio is Saturday at 4:pm at the Antonio residence. The funeral is Sunday at 2:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.

Police Log

Yesterday the Gila County Task Force arrested 41 year old Manuel Robles at the Gila County Courthouse for misconduct involving weapons.

27 year old Joseph Velarde was arrested at a residence on Railroad Avenue for aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

31 year old Daniel Osteros was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia at the Economy Inn.


Obituary

Victoria Gameros passed away April 21 in Mesa. She was 22. She is the daughter of Carol and Daniel Gameros of Miami.
Visitation for “Danielle” Gameros will be Thursday (April 24) at 10:am at Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa. Rosary is at 11:00. The Funeral Mass is at 12:Noon at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mesa.
An account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank to help with funeral expenses.

Community Center Pool Meeting

The City of Globe is having a meeting for everyone who is interested in the future of the Community Center pool.

The meeting will be held at 5:30pm Tuesday at the pool on Jesse Hayes Road.


Police Log

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 44 year old Mary Radcliffe at a business on Baseline Spur for disorderly conduct and threats. Radcliffe had been arrested on Friday for disorderly conduct and criminal damage.

27 year old James Granato was arrested for possession of marijuana at a residence on South Glendale.

38 year old Cecil Cook was arrested on Saturday on a failure to comply warrant for criminal trespass.

Two people were arrested during a traffic stop late Friday night. 40 year old Marilyn Garcia was charged with DUI. 48 year old Helena Kitcheyan was arrested for open container.

33 year old Lamonica Baylish was arrested on a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

On Saturday, Phoenix Police arrested 31 year old Tiffany Gates of San Carlos on a warrant for attempted organized retail theft.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52 year old Scott Bullman for domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

On Friday the Gila County Drug Task Force arrested 59 year old Diane Victor for possession of marijuana for sale, use of an electronic device in a drug transaction, possession of a narcotic drug for sale, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

65 year old Marvin Anderson was arrested for possession of marijuana.


Obituary

Former Gila County Supervisor Robert Casillas of Chandler passed away April 17. He was 80.
In addition to other area businesses, Bob and his family created Mama Lola’s Tortilla Factory.
Visitation for Bob Casillas is Wednesday at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.


One Person Dies in Mackey's Camp Fire

One person died in a fire Thursday afternoon at Mackey’s Camp. At last report the body had not been identified.

Detectives with the Gila County Sheriff’s Office and Globe Fire Marshall Joe Bracamonte are investigating the case, along with the Pinal County Fire Investigation Task Force.

Globe Council Meets Tonight

Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday)  at 6:00 with a Special Meeting to elect a president of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Property Corporation.

The Regular Meeting follows with a Public Hearing on a proposal to adjust water and wastewater rates and fees.

The agenda also includes a Resolution supporting the All Mail Election.
