Miami School Board Meets Monday
The Miami School Board meets Monday at 6:30pm in the
Miami High School Library.
The agenda includes consideration of closing Las Lomas and
opening Lee Kornegay Intermediate School.

A bicyclist was hit last night while riding on Highway 188.
He was flown to Maricopa Medical Center.
There were no injuries in an accident yesterday morning in
the area of Oak Street.
Globe Police arrested 31 year old Billy Ross yesterday morning
after a disturbance at a business on Santee. Ross was charged with domestic
violence/assault, criminal damage, and threats and intimidation.
43 year old Michael Guerena was arrested yesterday for
domestic violence assault after Globe PD took a delayed report at a business
on Hospital Drive.
21 year old Nathan O’Donnell of Mesa was arrested for
shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.
Officers are investigating an aggravated assault at a
residence on East Mesquite.
The Gila County Task Force arrested 19 year old Kyra Jordan
of Jackson, Wyoming for possession of a dangerous drug, possession of
marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary
report taken at a business on Highland Drive.
The Department of Public Safety arrested 42 year old Gregory
Pegg of Globe on a failure to appear warrant for bad checks.

GCC Financial Aid Workshop at San Carlos Campus
The Gila Community College San Carlos Campus is offering a
free financial aid workshop on Saturday. It’s for high school, college
and adult students who plan to attend college during the next academic year.
The workshop includes a presentation on federal student aid,
who gets federal student aid, how to complete the free application for federal
student aid and other helpful information.
All students and their parents are welcome, even if you do
not plan to attend Gila Community College or Eastern Arizona College.
The event starts at 2:pm at the Gila Community College San Carlos
Campus in Room 3.

Students Present Oral History Project at GAAC
Globe Education Center students have been interviewing
seniors for an Oral History Project.
They will present the written life histories and photo CD on Friday at the Globe Active Adult Center.
The presentation begins at 11:am.
Police Log
Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision yesterday
afternoon on US 60 just before the
Highway 60/188 junction.
Globe Police arrested 33 year okld Albert Reyes yesterday
for driving with a suspended license.
Officers are investigating a report of criminal damage at a residence
on West Kofa Pass and a burglary at a business on Broad Street.
Red Cross Helps San Carlos Fire Victims
The American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter provided
assistance yesterday (Wednesday) to five adults and two children who lost their
house to a fire Saturday in San Carlos.
Red Cross volunteers met their needs,
giving them food and winter clothing after the blaze.
Globe High School Burglarized
Globe High School was burglarized early Wednesday morning.
The Globe Unified School District has issued a statement
saying they consider the disruption of the educational process a very serious
matter. They say they support the full prosecution of any person found
responsible for the crime.
School officials have expressed concern that any further disruption may result in
extending the school year for its students.
Obituaries
Manuel (correct) R. Tarango passed away February 15. He was 59. He is
survived by his brother Gilbert and his sisters Julia Tarango and Linda Kriley.
Visitation for Manuel Tarango is today (Thursday) at 8:30am
at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.
Wynona Jane
Polk of San Carlos passed away February 13 at Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborne.
She was 43. She is survived by her father Larry Polk, Sr.; her mother Brenda Dudley;
3 brothers and 2 sisters.
The wake for Wynona Polk is tomorrow (Friday) at 6:am at the Brenda
Dudley residence. The funeral is at 1:pm.

Miami School Board Meets Thursday
The Miami School Board meets Thursday at 6:pm in
the Miami High School Library.
It is an Executive Session about a Student Hearing.
Globe-Miami Centennial Band Fundraiser
The Globe-Miami Centennial Band will hold its first
fundraiser on Saturday, April 6. Th event will be at the Old Courthouse Theater
from 7 until 10:30pm.
Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at the Cobre Valley Center
for the Arts or by calling 928-793-4626.
The Jazz Band will play over 30 swing, Latin and big band tunes
for a concert and dance.
Tickets include a light meal, dessert and refreshments. A no
host bar will also be available.
Dr. Seuss's Birthday Party
Globe Public Library will have a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party on
Saturday, March 2 from 11:am until 1:pm.
They’ll have cake, crafts and more.

Nobody was hurt in an accident yesterday afternoon on Hill
Street.
No injuries were reported in a hit and run accident
yesterday afternoon on Highway 60.
The Gila County Task Force and Sheriff’s Deputies arrested
22 year old Kyle Chavez on warrants for attempted second degree murder,
misconduct involving weapons and burglary. 24 year old Bobbi Martinez was
charged with hindering prosecution.
Deputies are investigating a stolen vehicle report taken at
a residence on Inspiration.
Globe Police referred an intoxicated juvenile at a business
on Maple Street.
Officers are investigating a trespassing report taken at a
business on Ash Street; a fraud report taken at a business on Highway 60; and a
burglary at a business on South High Street.

Globe School Board Meets Wednesday
The Globe School Board meets Wednesday at 6:pm in
the High Desert Middle School auditorium.
The agenda includes approval of an emergency procurement to
replace a collapsed sewer line at Globe High School.
Ranching Discussed at Next First Friday Program
Jane Hale will discuss the history of Gila County ranching at
the next First Friday lecture on March 1.
The presentation begins at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza
Museum and Cultural Center.
The First Friday programs are free and light refreshments are served following
the program.
D-Backs Donate $5,000 to Replace Burned Little League Equipment
Globe-Miami Community News on Facebook reports that the
Arizona Diamondbacks have donated $5,000 to help Pinal Mountain Little League
replace equipment burned in a fire Friday morning.

Supervisors Meet Today
The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets this morning
(Tuesday) at 10:00.
The Supervisors will proclaim March 16 “March for Babies
Day” in Gila County.
They will discuss and possibly adopt an amendment to an Intergovernmental
Agreement with the State of Arizona to upgrade the railroad crossing on Bixby
Road.
They will also consider accepting a roadway easement on
Copper Hills Road, making it a public road.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old David
Powell for domestic violence/assault after a disturbance on Woodward.

failure to appear warrants for disorderly conduct and driving with a suspended
license.
Globe Police are investigating a theft at a business on Hill
Street and a theft at a business on Highway 60.

Health Department Talk at GAAC
Chuck Turney from the Gila County Health Department will be at the Globe Active Adult Center Tuesday at 10:30am.
He will talk about the many programs that are available that
you may not even know exist.
Police Log
There was a fatal car-pedestrian accident early Friday
morning on Highway 60 and Hackney Avenue.
Globe Police say that 57 year old Debra Mariscal was driving
westbound on Highway 60 in the outside lane at about 35 to 40mph. She did not
see the perdestrian 59 year old Manual Tarango enter the highway and was unable
to avoid him.
One driver was taken to the hospital after a two vehicle
accident Friday afternoon at Jess Hayes and Beer Tree. Both cars were towed.
No injuries were reported in an accident Friday near Old
Oak.
Nobody was hurt in a single vehicle accident yesterday
morning on Highway 60.
A small brush fire was quickly put out yesterday afternoon
on Copper Street.
A fire in the bleachers at the Claypool Little League field
was put out early Friday morning.
Globe Police arrested two people after a disturbance
yesterday on South Hill Street. 34 year old Marco Taliman and 38 year old
Wilsie Hermosillo were arrested for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.
Globe PD received a call late last night about an
intoxicated person in the McDonald’s drive thru. 23 year old Cleopatra Palmer
was arrested for DUI.
32 year old Michael Acosta was arrested early yesterday
morning for criminal damage at a business on Highway 60.
43 year old Martin Cassadore was arrested for disorderly
conduct late Saturday night at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.
Officers are investigating a harassment report taken at a
residence on Saguaro Drive, and criminal damage at the old Kentucky Fried Chicken
building.
The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault
that occurred on Miami Road; criminal damage and a theft from a vehicle on
Winchester; an attempted burglary on Nobel Drive; and a theft of services at
Guayo’s on the Trail.
Obituary
Former Miami resident Genevieve M. Garcia passed away
Febryary 13. She was 81. She is survived by her daughter; her brother Frank
Moreno, Jr. of Miami; 1 grandchild and 1 great grandchild.
Visitation for Genevieve Garcia is Wednesday at 6:pm at
Miles Funeral Services Miami. Funeral Mass is Thursday at 10:am at Our Lady of
the Blessed Sacrament Church.
