Spaghetti Dinner and Gift Auction


There will be a Spaghetti Dinner and Gift Auction on Sunday at Holy Angels Parish Hall. The Spaghetti Dinner starts at 2:pm with the auction after the dinner.

Advance tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for kids 4-10. The cost at the door is $7 for adults and kids 4-10 are $5. Kids 3 and under eat free.

Police Log


Last night shortly before midnight a wide load truck pulled power lines down in the area of Maple and High Street. APS restored power a short time later.

Globe Police arrested 41 year old Michelle Bartlett on a probation violation warrant for aggravated DUI.

The ADOT Enforcement Section in Phoenix arrested 28 year old Vincent Gallegos on a failure to comply warrant for endangerment.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 year old Richard Vickers on a warrant from Apache Junction  for failure to pay on a charge of driving with a suspended license,  and for operating a vehicle without an interlock device.

Deputies are investigating criminal damage to a vehicle at a residence on Braley, and criminal damage and theft at a residence on Hoopes Road.

CVCA Dessert Social


The Cobre Valley Center for the Arts Annual Dessert Social will be held Saturday from 6 to 8:pm outside The White Porch at the Center for the Arts Building.

Bring your favorite dessert and wear your favorite apron to the event. There will also be a “Hero Cape” Apron Fashion show.

Admission is free but there’s a $5 fee to taste your choice of 6 desserts. Drinks will also be on sale.

Many of the bakers will bring a duplicate dessert to the “Silent Auction” table. If you like the taste of a certain dessert, you can bid for it  there. All proceeds go to the Center for the Arts.

Obituary


Mary Bead passed away August 31 at her home in San Carlos. She was 97. She is survived by 7 children; her brother; 27 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
The wake for Mary Bead will be Saturday at 4:pm at the Bead residence. The funeral is Sunday at 2:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.

First Friday Presentation About Geronimo


The topic of this month’s First Friday program is  “Geronimo.”  Dik Mickle will give the talk and show actual artifacts from the Arizona State Museum. The program starts at 6:30pm.

The first Friday programs are held each month in the newly refurbished meeting room at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center. The events are free and light refreshments are served following the program.

GAAC Friday Movie


The Globe Active Adult Center is showing the movie “Joyful Noise” Friday at 12:30pm.

School Flu Clinics


The Gila County Health Department is holding their School Flu Clinics from now through September 25.

Today (Thursday) they are at Las Lomas School. Next week they will be at Miami Jr./Sr. High School on Wednesday, and at  Copper Rim School next Thursday.

The school clinics begin at 9:am.

Police Log


Miami Police are investigating a report of a man walking into a home on Reppy Avenue while the family was there and awake. He took a green purse and left the house. The man is described as Hispanic, 5’8”, 160-170 pounds, with a tatoo on his left forearm

Globe Police located and arrested 21 year old Hillary Garcia in connection with an incident that occurred on August 30. Garcia was booked  for two counts of theft involving two donation jars for a three year old cancer patient.

Officers located 37 year old Terry Gonzales and arrested him in connection with an incident that occurred on September 1. Gonzales was charged with domestic violence assault and criminal damage.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a location on Main Street and a report of harassment taken at Copper Country Mobile Home Park.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33 year old Jeffrey Horlacher and 23 year old Brittany Martinez for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating the theft of an air conditioning unit from a residence on Quail Peak Trail.

Obituaries


Former Globe-Miami resident Velma O. Anderson passed away August 30 in Sun City West. She was 89. She is survived by 2 daughters; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The funeral for Velma Anderson is tomorrow (Friday) at 1:pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

A Celebration of Life for Mea Margry Hernandez, the infant daughter of Ryan and Raena Hernandez, will be Saturday at noon at the Globe Elk’s Lodge.

Globe Library Email Classes


The Globe Public Library will offer free classes on how to set up an email address on Mondays from September 17 through October 1. The times are 10 until 11:am or 4 to 5:pm.

LD8 Candidate Debate Will Be Held September 12


The Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission will host a debate for state House of Representatives and Senate candidates in Legislative District 8 at 6:pm on Wednesday, September 12. The debate will be at Florence Town Hall.

Legislative District 8 includes parts of Gila and Pinal Counties.

As a service to voters, the debates will be videotaped and posted online for those unable to attend in person. The debates can be viewed on the Clean Elections website within 48 hours after they occur. That’s at www.azcleanelections.gov.

The 2012 general election will take place on November 6. Early voting begins October 11.

New Mexico Resident Found Guilty in Globe of Transportation of Drugs For Sale


On August 31 a Gila County jury found New Mexico resident Sammy Lee Mitchell guilty of 5 counts, including transportation of dangerous drugs for sale.

The jury heard that on February 28,  Mitchell was stopped  on US 60 near Globe. Five pounds of methamphetamine were found in his spare tire. The potential street value of the drugs is $180,000 to $360,000, depending on the ultimate location of the sale.

Mitchell will be sentenced on September 21 in Globe. He faces a sentence of five to ten years.

There was a bomb threat yesterday afternoon at the Gila County Courthouse. No bomb was found.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 22 year old Daniel Garcia for disorderly conduct/domestic violence at a residence on North Broad Street.

Officers are investigating a missing juvenile report taken on Oak Street and stolen trailers on North Broad Street.

Robert Dalton Bennett passed away Saturday at his home in Globe. He was 70.
He is survived by his brother Bill Bennett and his sister Lu Ann
Funeral services for “Robin” Bennett will be private.

Alice De Lara of Miami passed away Sunday at Hospice of the Valley Gardiner Home in Phoenix. She was 68. She is survived by 3 sons; her daughter; her brother; her sister; 27 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Alice De Lara will be held Thursday at 11:am at Divine Grace Presbyterian Church.

Police Log


A downed power line in the area of Sixth and Maple caused a power outage in Globe yesterday. Power was restored in a little less than an hour.

Yetsreday Globe Police arrested 73 year old Paul Chambers for domestic assault at a residence on Third Avenue.

19 year old Eduardo Armenta was arrested last night for DUI.

Officers are investigating a theft from a vehicle and shoplifting at Safeway.

Mesa Police arrested 63 year old Carolyn Chimes of Globe on a failure to comply warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Globe School Board Meets Tuesday


The Globe School Board meets Tuesaday at 6:pm in the High Desert Middle School Auditorium.

Flu Shots Available at Gila County Health Department


Flu shots are available starting Tuesday at the Gila County Health Office.

The standard flu vaccine for adults is $20. The  Fluzone High Dose for those 65 and older is $50. Both the standard and high dose adult flu vaccines are covered by Medicare Part B.

A Community Clinic will be held in Tonto Basin on Monday, September 24 from 10:30 until 12:30. A Roosevelt Clinic will be held on the same day from 2:30 until 4:pm.

GAAC Offers AARP Safe Driver Class


The Globe Active Adult Center will have the AARP Safe Driver Class on Thursday at 12:30pm. The course teaches defensive driving techniques, how to deal with aggressive drivers, how to reduce your chances for injury and more.

Police Log


There was a non-injury accident early Saturday morning in the area of Russell Road. The driver left the scene before Gila County Sheriff’s deputies arrived. The accident is under investigation.

A driver lost control and crashed into a wall Saturday morning on Short Avenue.

There was a two vehicle accident Friday afternoon at Kaiser Crossing. No further information is available.

Nobody was hurt in a minor collision in front of Guayo’s El Rey in Miami.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38 year old Lemuel Dillon at Alhambra Mobile Home Park for domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

A boat was reported stolen at Lake View Mobile Home Park. Then the boat owner was arrested for an unrelated warrant.

Gila County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating criminal damage at a residence in Kellner Canyon; a theft from a vehicle on Braley; and a report of illegal dumping taken in the Pinal Creek area.

Miami Police are investigating several similar cases of  batteries being taken from cars. Two women were questioned over the weekend after another theft was reported and the batteries turned in for scrap.

Globe Police are investigating an assault reported at a business on Highway 60; a hit and run non-injury accident at Fry’s; a burgary at a residence on Jess Hayes Road; a burglary at a residence on Skyline Drive; a burglary at a residence on Fegan Street; a break-in at a residence on Manzanita; criminal damage at a residence on North East Street; and criminal damage at a residence on Escudilla

Former Roosevelt Lake resident Alpha Omega Watts passed away August 30. She was 95. She is survived by her daughter Glenda; 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.
The funeral for “Meg” Watts will be Saturday at 10:am at at Lamont Mortuary.
Donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice in Tucson.

Jesse L. Dillard of Globe passed away August 27 at Arizona Regional Medical Center in Mesa. He was 48. He is survived by his son Brandon and 2 brothers.
Funeral services for Jesse Dillard will be private.
