Globe Council Meets Monday

Globe City Council meets on Monday with a Work Session at 6:00.

Interim Police Chief Rosann Moya will give a presentation about vagrancy in Globe. There will also be a discussion about an Intergovernmental Agreement  with the Gila County Library and about the abandonment of a City Right of Way in exchange for a utility easement.

The Council will also discuss the Globe City Code Grease Interceptor Policy. They will then act on a Task Order for the Development and Implementation of a Sludge Management Program.


Cobre Valley Republican Club Meets Saturday

The Cobre Valley Republican Club meets tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:30am to discuss upcoming events and hear a special guest speaker. There will be coffee and donuts.

The Cobre Valley Republican Club is also collecting food donations for the
local food bank.

The meeting is at the Globe headquarters on North Broad Street.

Police Log

A one vehicle accident with injuries occurred late last night on Highway 60. The driver lost control and went off the roadway. The accident is under investigation.

Globe Police responded to a fight yesterday evening in the area of South Broad Street. 27 year old Margaret Randall and 26 year old Kyle Cook were charged with aggravated assault. 40 year old Christopher Goseyun and 26 year old Korwin Smith were arrested for disorderly conduct.

25 year old Justin Durbin was arrested yesterday for fraudulent schemes.

76 year old Jerry Kinsman was arrested by Globe PD for driving with a suspended license.

36 year old Raynell Pizano was arrested for trespassing.

43 year old Kyle Cook was arrested at a business on Broad Street for loitering.

A theft report was taken at a business on Highway 60.

Miami Town Council Special Meeting

The Miami Town Council is having a Special Meeting on Friday at 1:pm.

The meeting is being held to discuss and possibly approve the contract between the Town of Miami and Rodriguez Roofing for the Bullion Plaza Gym Roof Replacement Project.


Farmer's Market on Saturday

The Globe-Miami  Farmer’s Market begins Saturday at 8:am at Globe Veterans Memorial Park and ends at 11:00.

It includes fresh produce, hand crafts and more.

HDHS Calendar Event on Saturday

The High Desert Humane Society’s Annual Calendar Event will take place this Saturday (August 17). 

Tickets are $15, including a roast beef dinner. No-host cocktails begin at 6:pm and dinner starts at 7:00.

Tickets may be purchased at the High Desert Humane Society Boutique, the Cat Adoption Center, Fashion Gap Salon and Past Times Antiques.

CVCT Inaugural Bus Run this Friday

The inaugural bus run for Cobre Valley Community Transit begins at 10:am on Friday, August 16 at Miami Town Hall.

Miami Music in the Park on Saturday

The band Sunset Highway will perform during the Miami Music in the Park event this Saturday (August 17). Prizes will be awarded to the best dancers.

The event is from 6:30 to 9:30pm at Miami Veterans  Park.

Food on sale during the evening includes root beer floats and other favorites.


Oktoberfest in Kearny

Kearny will have an Oktoberfest event on Friday and Saturday, October 4 and 5. It starts October 4 at 8:am.

There will be a street fair, car show, hot dog eating contest and the rural fireman’s chilli cook-off. 

The event also includes music throughout the day, drawings,  games for the kids, and food and merchandise vendors.

Police Log

Last night Globe Police arrested 26 year old Korwin Smith at Sycamore and Broad Streets for domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

36 year old Raynell Pizano was arrested late last night at a business on West Highway 60 for organized retail theft and criminal trespassing.

Yesterday morning a business on Highway 60 reported an altered document and Globe Police arrested 29 year old Jeremy Hooke for fraudulent schemes.

41 year old Lloyd Holiday was arrested on a child support warrant.

Officers are investigating a report of a forged prescription at Fry’s and a theft at a residence on Birch Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old Tristian Belarde on a child support warrant.

Deputies are investigating a theft at the Shamrock Bar and a report of harassing phone calls taken at a residence on Woodward Street.



Obituary

B.J. Cecil passed away Tuesday in Mesa. He was 85. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; his son Chris, his daughter Lori Ellsworth; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation for B.J. Cecil is Monday at 8:30am at the LDS Aspen Ward in Mesa. The funeral is at 10:00.

Dylan Earven Foundation 5K/1K Fundraiser

The Dylan Earven Foundation 5K/1K event will be held on Saturday, September 7 at the Globe Community Center.

The run/walk and trike/bike race starts at 7:am. A fundraiser pancake breakfast will be served after the race, hosted by the Globe Firefighters Association.

There will also be music, a dunk tank, kids games, and booths with all sorts of helpful information.

The Dylan Earven Foundation raises money to help local families with costs associated with having a child with cancer.

GCC Classes Begin August 19

Gila Community College’s fall semester begins Monday (August 19) with a newly reduced tuittion schedule. 

There are many classes to choose from including evening welding classes, math, biology, public speaking, history, administrative and technical support computer classes, beginning computer classes, Spanish, and a wide variety of art and education classes. There are also many online classes available.

Seniors 55 and over receive free tuition.

Student Pick-Up and Drop-Off Moved at Miami Junior/Senior High School

Miami Junior/Senior High School is undergoing a construction project. As a result, they have relocated student pick-up and drop-off to the East parking lot.

They are asking that you drop off car riders  to the left of the parking barriers set up along the loading and unloading zone.

Also please pull forward to the last cone in the left lane to keep traffic movimg.


Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision yesterday during the noon hour on East Ash Street.

A juvenile was issued a referral for assault at Globe High School.

29 year old Patrick Newman was arrested for disorderly conduct last night after a disturbance on South Broad Street.

Two people were arrested at a business on South Hill Street. 47 year old Orien Newman had a contempt of court warrant for shoplifting. 31 year old Michael Francisco was arrested for loitering to beg.

Officers are investigating  an assault in the area of South Hill Street.

A Gila County Sheriff’s Deputy took a theft report on Bixby Road.

Healthy Living with Diabetes Workshops at GAAC

The Globe Active Adult Center will present another Healthy Living with Diabetes Workshop series beginning with an information session on Tuesday, September 10 at 10:am.

The interactive workshops are once a week for six weeks, on Tuesdays from 1 to 3:30pm, from September 17  through October 22.

The workshops are free, but you do need to register by calling the Globe Active Adult Center at 425-9030.


Police Log

Two people were flown to Valley hospitals Friday afternoon after an accident in the area of Russell Road.

Nobody was hurt n an accident early Friday morning in the area of Petticoat Junction. The driver lost control while avoiding an animal.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52 year old Marlene Thompson for aggravated DUI.

Two people were arrested Saturday morning after a report of trespassing in the area of Lavin’s Wash. 56 year old Robert Padgett was charged with possession of dangerous drugs, possession of marijuana,  and misconduct involving weapons in a drug offense. 53 year old Ernie Acosta was arrested on a child support warrant.

On Friday, 43 year old inmate Jason Moss was served a felony warrant for possession of a dangerous drug for sale, possession of a narcotic drug, and false reporting to law enforcement.

Deputies are investigating a domestic disturbance on Calle De Loma; shoplifting at the Claypool Circle K; a theft at Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park; a theft on Main Street;  a burglary at a residence on Glendale; and criminal damage to a vehilcle on Calle De Loma.

Saturday night Globe Police arrested 48 year old Angela Flores for domestic assault after a disturbance at a residence on Hackney Avenue.

33 year old Kathleen Freeman was arrested Saturday night for domestic violence/aggravated assault.

51 year old Manuel Johnson was arrested for robbery.

32 year old Kenneth Irving was cited and released for public consumption.

31 year old Adrienne Licano was arrested late Friday night for disorderly conduct.

Officers are investigating a domestic assult report taken at a business on Broad Street; a report of shoplifting at Fry’s; a harassment report taken on Main Street; and a report of telephone harassment taken at a business on Seventh Street.

Globe PD has issued a correction to their media press release for August 4. Vodell Haan, Jr. was listed as being arrested for DUI. Haan was actually arrested for failure to comply with a court order. DUI charges against Haan are pending.


Miami Council Meets Tonight

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

The Council will discuss and possibly approve the property tax levy for FY 2013-2014.

They will consider authorizing the purchase and installation of four signs listing rules and regulations at Veterans Memorial Park, Highway 60 Park, the Miami Library area and Bullion Plaza.

The Council will vote to award a bid for the HUD Abatement Grant Project and a bid for the Bullion Plaza Gym Roof Replacement Project.

And the Council will consider sponsoring four high school students to attend the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Conference on August 28.


Obituary

Lifelong Globe resident Helen O. Alvarado passed away August 9. She was 87. She is survived by her son Albert Alvarado; her daughter Gloria Aguirre; 8 sisters; 3 brothers; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Helen Alvarado will be Friday (August 16) at 8:30am at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Esperanza Aragon passed away August 8 at her home in Miami. She was 63. She is survived by 2 daughters and 2 sons.
Rosary for Esperanza Aragon is today (Monday) at 9:30 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. The funeral is at 10:00.
