Construction on Russell Road

The Gila County Roads Department is chipsealing Russell Road and Russell Gulch Road beginning Monday (September 30) and continuing through Thursday, October 10.

Construction times are 6:am to 6:pm, Monday through Thursday.

Sections of Russell Road will be closed to public access during the construction period. You are encouraged to use alternate routes.



Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a single vehicle accident early this morning on Miami Road.

Globe Police arrested 22 year old Vance Mata for felony theft early this morning at a business on North Broad Street. Mata also had a failure to appear warrant from Gila County Superior court for theft.

A juvenile referral was issued for assault yesterday morning at a business on High Desert Drive.

Two juveniles were referred to juvenile probation yesterday after setting off a fire alarm at Globe High School.

Globe Police responded to a call about a disabled  vehicle at Broad and Railroad Court. The car was later found to have been stolen. A report was taken.

Officers are investigating a hit and run on East Ash; shoplifting at a business on Hill Street; a theft at a business on South Broad Street; and criminal damage at Globe High School.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 58 year old Diane Victor yesterday for disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating a domestic dispute at Alhambra Mobile Home Park; a domestic incident at Sunrise Mobile Home Park; a theft at the Gila County Fiduciary’s Office; and a report of  illegal dumping  on Russell Road.


Obituary

Ramiro Angeles Sabino passed away September 23 at his home in Globe. He was 30. He is survived by his wife Guadalupe; 3 children; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Rosary for Ramiro Sabino is Monday (September 30) at 9:30am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. A Memorial Funeral Mass will follow at 10:am.

Last Chance to See a Movie at the Apache Drive-In

Saturday will be your last chance to visit the Apache Drive-In. The drive-in is closing after almost 60 years, another casualty of Hollywood’s push for theaters to convert to the digital format. 

Saturday’s gala event features the movie “American Graffiti,” classic cars, a Wolfman Jack contest, a tailgate party and more.

Centennial Band Will Perform at Hamburger Fry

The Globe-Miami Centennial Band will begin its 2013-2014 season on Friday with an outdoor performance at the Gila County Historical Museum Hamburger Fry.

The hamburger fry and the concert begin at 5:30pm.

This is the last hamburger fry of the season. Hamburgers, chips, cowboy beans, salad, dessert and drinks will be available for $7 a person.


GCSO Purchases Portable Breath Testing Devices

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office announces that they have purchased 21 portable breath testing devices and over 1000 mouthpieces to accompany them.

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety provided the funding to purchase the  devices. They will be used in DUI enforcement and in combating underage alcohol use in the community.

Canyon and Globe Fire Departments put out a structure fire yesterday afternoon in the area of Bullion Plaza.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office served 41 year old inmate Trunion Hughes a failure to pay warrant for assault.

32 year old Adam Garcia was arrested yesterday on a child support warrant.

Deputies are investigating thefts at the ADOT yard on Highway 60 and at  a residence on Palm Lane; and a domestic incident in the area of the Claypool Circle K.

Globe Police arrested 31 year old Lisa Thompson on a failure to appear warrant for driving with a suspended license.

42 year old Christopher Oglesby was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for public consumption.

Officers are investigating a domestic dispute on Hackney Hill and a burglary at a business on South Broad Street.


Obituary

Kipper Lou Poeling of Globe passed away September 21 at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. She was 53. She is survived by her husband Tom; 5 children, including Robert and Jonathon Poeling of Globe; and her sister Iva Mathews of Globe.
A graveside service for Kipper Poeling will be held Monday (September 30) at 3:pm at Pinal Cemetery in Central Heights.

Baby King Wesso Johnson of Peridot passed away September 20 at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. King is survived by his parents Kenny Johnson and Tashina Stanley; and his brothers Joseph Martinez, Jasiah Stanley and Elias Viau.
Visitation for King Johnson is Saturday at 8:am at San Carlos Miracle Church. The funeral is at 10:am.

Free Presentation Thursday Night at CVCA

Thursday night the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts will have a special performance by Dave Ehlert.

Ehlert portrays both Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain in this live theatrical production of historical drama, humor and education. It starts at 7:pm.

The event is free and there is no need to buy tickets or make reservations.



CVRMC Art/Wine Auction

The 6th Annual Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Foundation Art/Wine Auction will take place on Friday, November 1 at the Gila County Fairgrounds.

This year’s theme is “Stars and Lights of Paris.” The event starts at 6:pm.

The money raised from the event is used for “education, training, equipment, and services for Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.

Police Log

Yesterday the Gila County Narcotics Task Force arrested  two people on New Street. 41 hear old Trunion Hughes and 26 year old Misty Courtney were charged with possession of dangerous drugs for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hughes was also charged with  possession of stolen property and a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

A theft report was taken at Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park.

Globe Police arrested 35 year old Angel Martinez on a warrant for criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

26 year old Breanna Hamlet was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct.

Two juveniles were referred to juvenile probation after a fight yesterday at Globe High School.

A theft report was taken at a residence on Jess Hayes Road.

Tempe Police arrested 29 year old Terrill Brown of Peridot  on a warrant for shoplifting.

Training Programs Wednesday at the Gila County Courthouse

“The Cenpatico Crisis System” and the “Frontline on the Home Front” training programs are being held Wednesday in the Gila County Courthouse Supervisors’ Hearing Room from 9:am to 5:pm.

Obituary


Phyllis Marie Cunningham of Globe passed away August 27 at Copper Mountain Inn. She was 82. She is survived by 8 children; 30 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Phyllis Cunningham will be held Saturday (September 28) at 2:pm at Lamont Mortuary.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision yesterday morning in the area of Hospital Drive.

There were no injuries in a two vehicle accident last night on East Ash Street. 37 year old Christopher Martin was charged with aggravated DUI.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39 year old Rebecca Russell for disorderly conduct/domestic violence after a disturbance on Green Avenue.

The Gila County Narcotics Task Force arrested 58 year old Michael Plesher and 20 year old Candise Plant for criminal trespass.

33 year old Jimmy Golden was arrested on warrants for domestic violence/assault and driving with a suspended license.

46 year old Theresa Redondo was arrested on warrants for hindering prosecution and theft.

25 year old inmate Anthony Stewart was served a warrant for driving with a suspended license and false reporting of an emergency.

A School Resource Officer took a report of an assault at Miami Jr./Sr. High School.
Deputies are investigating contraband at the Gila County Jail; a burglary on Railroad Avenue; a theft on Pinal View Drive; and illegal dumping on Russell Road.

Phoenix Police arrested 46 year old Joe Munoz of Miami on a failure to appear warrant for use of marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Last night Globe Police arrested 27 year old Vanessa Castaneda at a business on Highway 60 for organized retail theft.

Officers are investigating thefts at  businesses on Highway 60 and on South Broad Street


Obituary

Betty Joe Carroll passed away September 19 at her home in Globe. She was 84. She is survived by her daughter Karen Bowyer; her grandaaughter and caregiver Bryanna Taufa; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Visitation for Betty Carroll is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:am at Bulman Miles Funeral Home in Globe. A graveside service follows at 1:pm at Globe Cemetery.

Globe Cold Case Investigated Tuesday Night on TNT

Tuesday's episode of the TNT network’s true crime series “Cold Justice” investigates the 1988   hit and run death of 17 year old Globe High School student Rachelle Escalante.

TNT’s promotions of the TV series claim that the crimes are solved during the program. We’ll find out if that’s true Tuesday night. 

TNT is channel 37 on Cable One.


Supervisors Meet Tuesday

The Gila County Board of Supervisors Work Session begins Tuesday at 10:am.

The agenda includes a proposal to amend the planning and zoning, wastewater and flood control fees.


Medicare Presentation at GAAC

The Globe Active Adult Center will have a presentation about Medicare on Tuesday at 11:am.

Tri City, Canyon and Globe fire departments put out a brush fire Saturday morning in the area of Cleveland Street. 

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision yesterday morning on Highway 60.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old David Colyott in the area of Sunrise Mobile Home Park for possession of a weapon during a felony offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Saturday 47 year old George Dodson of Payson was arrested for assault at the Gila County Fair.

31 year old inmate William Shurter was served warrants for domestic violence/assault and burglary.

Deputies are investigating a domestic disturbance at a residence on Cherry Avenue; a fight that occurred yesterday in Central Heights; a burglary in the area of Inspiration Drive; a burglary on Midland Court; and a burglary on Railroad Avenue.

Mesa Police arrested 52 year old Robert Ramos of Globe on a failure to appear warrant for assault.

Last night Globe Police arrested two people at a residence on North Main Street. 29 year old Brian Stidham was charged with domestic violence/assault. 51 year old William Stidham was arrested on warrants for domestic violence/disorderly conduct, issuing bad checks and driving with a suspended license.

30 year old Patrick Newman was arrested at a residence on South East Street for false reporting to law enforcement.

Officers are investigating a report of a domestic disturbance taken at a residence on Century Drive; an assault reported in the area of South Broad Street; and a hit and run reported at a residence on East Carico.

Miami Man Arrested for Weekend Shooting

Miami Police have arrested 44 year old Henry Moreno in connection with a shooting over the weekend.

Moreno was charged with aggravated assault, endangerment and possession of a stolen firearm. He approached the victim at his residence on Church Hill Street and shot him with a .22 caliber pistol.

The victim was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center and then to Scottsdale Osborne Hospital. As of this morning the victim was in good condition.

Moreno was found within 15 minutes of the shooting with the help of the Department of Public Safety and the Gila County Sheriff’s Office.


Globe Council Meets Tonight at 6:00

Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

The Council will discuss recommendations for changing the Globe City Codes relating to  “A” frame signs; the use and parking of recreational vehicles; and allowing chickens to be kept within the Globe City Limits.

Special presentations include a "Thank You" to Globe City Clerk Gina Paul for her many years of dedicated service.

The Council will also declare October to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

An Executive Session will follow the Regular Meeting.

There will also be a public meeting of the Municipal Property Corporation  Directors tonight at 6:00. They will elect a President and Secretary-Treasurer.


Miami Council Meets Tonight at 6:30

Miami Town Council has a Special Meeting tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

The agenda includes approval of a fence and gate around the flag pole in front of Bullion Plaza.

The Council will consider Intergovernmental Agreements with Water/Wastewater Testing Courier Service and a contract with EUSI, LLC for operating and managing Miami’s wastewater treatment plant.


This Week at the Globe Active Adult Center

Globe Active Adult Center will have a presentation today (Monday) by the Eastern Arizona Health Education Center about preventing falls. It starts at 10:30am.

There will be a presentation about Medicare tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11:am, and Wednesday is Community Day with Globe City Manager Brent Billingsley.
