Resolution Copper Public Meeting


On Monday (April 15)  the City of Globe will host a discussion by Resolution Copper Company to educate the community about the company and the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange Conservation Act.

Public discussion will be encouraged.

The meeting begins at 5:30pm and will be followed by the Globe City Council Work Session.

The Globe City Council Work Session begins Monday at 6:pm

The agenda includes a Resolution designating  the election date for a municipal election and the deadline for voter registration. The Resolution will also designate the place and the last date for candidates to file nomination papers.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision yesterday afternoon in the area of High Desert Middle School.

Globe Police arrested 27 year old Brandy Clark yesterday afternoon for domestic violence/disorderly conduct and criminal damage after a domestic disturbance on North Broad Street.

Another domestic disturbance on North Broad Street last night resulted in the arrest of 41 year old Trisha Simmons for aggravated domestic violence and assault.

Officers are investigating a burglary at a business on Pine Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 51 year old Charles Ortiz for domestic violence/assault after a disturbance on Pinal View Drive.

Deputies are investigating criminal damage at the Book Nook; a report of threats at a residence on Kellner Canyon; and a theft report taken at a residence on Story Street.

Globe Active Adult Center Concert in the Park


The Globe Active Adult Center presents their first Concert in the Park of the season on Friday (April 12) from 5 to 7:pm.

Enjoy the Miami Big Band Sound with Joe Sanchez and the Golden Oldies Car Show. Listen to  the music and see the restored vehicles for free. There will also be a spaghetti and meatballs dinner for $5.

The entire community is invited.

Special History Program at Bullion Plaza on Friday


A special program about two important Arizona women during the 1880’s will be presented on Friday (April 12) at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center. It starts at 6:30pm.

Nancy Lucia Humphrey will represent Maria Lucia Gonzales Humphrey and Julie McDonald will represent Pearl McEuen Cromer.

Both of these ladies will be in period dress and will tell their ancestors’ stories as if they were living them.

The presenters have each written books about their ancestors and they will hold a book signing after the presentation.

The special program is free and everyone is welcome.

Boys and Girls Club Ribbon Cutting


The Globe Boys and Girls Club invites the community to their ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday (April 12) to celebrate the completion of their new playground.

Join them from 3 to 5:pm at the Boys and Girls Club. Refreshments will be served.

CVRMC Health Fair on Saturday


The Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Health Fair takes place this Saturday.

This is an opportunity to get health screenings and information from local, regional and state health professionals for glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, hearing and vision, and more.

A 5K “Get Fit Run” starts at 8:am. 

They will also have a craft fair, classic auto show and healthy food demonstrations. Law enforcement, fire departments and air ambulances will provide safety awareness demonstrations and information.

The event takes place tomorrow from 9:am until 1:pm.

Obituaries



Susan Romero passed away April 7 in Tucson. She was 65. She is survived by her daughter Antonia; her brothers Louis and Arthur Romero; and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral plans for Susan Romero will be announced later.


Dr. McLaren Ruesch passed away Tuesday at his home in Globe. He was 81. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou and 7 children.
Visitation for Dr. Ruesch is Saturday at 11:am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Globe. The funeral is at 12:Noon.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Gila County Meetings to Address Termination of Medicare Advantage Plan


The Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens has scheduled several events in Gila County to discuss the recent termination of  the Universal Health Care Company's Medicare Advantage plan.

There will be a meeting at the Globe Active Adult Center on  Thursday (April 11) at 10:am. 

A meeting at the Miami Senior Center will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at 10:am.

Meetings have also been scheduled in Payson and in Hayden.

Globe Police arrested 28 year old Nevada resident Jordana Kelly in connection with a hit and run in the area of Golden Hill.

28 year old Roberts Herrera was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for possesion of drug paraphernalia.

54 year old Jody Herrera was arrested on a child support warrant.

Officers are investigating a delayed shoplifting report taken at a business on Highway 60/70.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of criminal damage/domestic violence taken at a residence on Golden Hill; an assault at the Gila County Jail; and a theft from a vehicle in the County Attorney’s Office parking lot.

Alzheimer's Education and Support Group Meets Wednesday


The Alzheimer’s Education and Support  group meets Wednesday at 1:pm at the Globe Active Adult Center.

It’s an opportunity to learn tips and techniques for helping people with Alzheimer’s or other memory problems.

Nominations Accepted for Teacher of the Year


Nominations are being accepted for Gila County Teacher of the Year.

Teachers can be nominated by another educator, administrator, parent or community member.

Applications are available at the County Schools Office at the Gila County Courthouse or online at gilacountyaz.gov.

Applications must be received by Friday, May 3.

The winners will be announced at a Board of Supervisors meeting in June.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested a juvenile for disorderly conduct/domestic violence and assault after a disturbance in Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park. 42 year old Martha Brodie was also arrested on an unrelated warrant for false reporting to law enforcement.

22 year old Briana Barraza was arrested yesterday for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

Obituaries


Barbara Joanne Ledbetter passed away April 5. She was 70. She is survived by her husband Dick; 2 children; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A Memorial Service for Barbara Ledbetter will be held Saturday (April 13)  at 9:am at First Presbyterian Church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Earl Garth Early of San Carlos passed away March 22 at UCLA Medical Center in California. He was 34. He is survived by his parents Harrison and Seraphina Porter, Jr.; his brother; and 4 sisters.
The wake for Earl Early is Friday at 4:pm at the Seraphina Early residence. The funeral is Saturday at 2:pm at Apache Independent Church.


GHS Graduate Now Pitching in Baltimore Organization


Globe High School 2009 graduate Brady Wager  is in his second minor league season with the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Tonight (Tuesday) he makes his debut as starting pitcher for the Single A Delmarva Shorebirds. You can listen to the game on the Internet at the Shorebirds official site. Listen here.

Gila County Fair Committee Meets Tuesday


The Gila County Fair Committee meets Tuesday at 6:pm at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce.

This month’s meeting is about the Fair Book.

Summer Youth Theater Registration Begins May 13


The Cobre Valley Center for the Arts Summer Youth Musical Theater Program begins June 3.

This year’s preentation is Disney’s “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” All workshop participants will perform on stage as part of the final performances.

Registration begins May 13. Tuition fees vary from workshop to workshop but financial aid scholarships are available. No child will be prevented from attending because of cost but the number of spots for each workshop is limited.

Police Log


Friday night medical personnel took a non-tribal victim to the hospital who had been stabbed in the San Carlos area. The case is under investigation.

Local fire agencies put out a shed fire early Sunday morning at a residence at Copper Canyon Ranches.

A structure fire was put out Friday morning at a residence on Euclid Avenue.

A small brush fire was put out  Friday morning in the area of Old Oak and Locomotive.

There was an injury accident yesterday afternoon on Highway 60 at Seven Mile Wash.

Nobody was hurt in a minor accident yesterday afternoon near the Claypool Circle K
.
No injuries were reported in a two vehicle accident yesterday on Broad Street.

No injuries were reported in several accidents in Globe on Friday. These included a single vehicle accident on Highway 70; two collisions on Highway 60; and an accident at the Highway 60 and 188 junction.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old De Etta Montoya of Snowflake at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park on a Navajo County warrant for resisting arrest, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Two people were arrested  at Sunrise Mobile Home Park yesterday. 33 year old Joshua Ensworth was charged with burglary. 43 year old Ignacio Renteria was arrested for burglary and also had a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. Renteria had a Maricopa County warrant for issuing bad checks.

40 year old Robin Gapa was cited for driving with a suspended license.

Two people were arrested after a disturbance Saturday at a residence on Calle De Loma. 59 year old Joseph Armendariz and 52 year old Sarah Armendariz were both charged with disorderly conduct/domestic violence.

79 year old Art Wilder was cited and released Saturday for disorderly conduct.

24 year old Destry Phillips was cited and released for driving with a suspended license.

28 year old Curtis Henderson was cited and released for criminal speed.

Deputies are investigating a report of possible child neglect taken in the area of Pueblo Heights; a report of counterfeit money at the Claypool Circle K; criminal damage at the Kellner Canyon group reservation area; criminal damage at a residence on Hamilton; criminal damage to a vehicle on Roberts Drive; a delayed theft report taken at a residence on El Camino; and a burglary at a residence on Old Oak.

On Saturday Globe Police arrested 43 year old Sheryl Robles for arson of an occupied structure.

22 year old Marlin Nosie was arrested for DUI at McDonalds.

On Friday 43 year old Holly Pitman was arrested at a traffic stop for fictitious plates.

Officers are investigating shoplifting at a business on Highway 60; criminal damage at a business on  Oak Street; criminal damage in the area of Main Street; a theft at a residence on Desert Drive; and a delayed theft report taken at a residence on North Street.

San Carlos Police arrested 36 year old Paul Montolla on a child support warrant.

Miami Council Meets Tonight


Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

They will have a second Public Hearing to discuss the uses proposed at the first Public Hearing for Community Development Block Grant funds. After the Public Hearing the Council will select uses from the proposed list.

The Council will consider a Resolution adopting a fair housing policy and an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Arizona Department of Transpotattion to purchase signs and sign hardware with Federal Highway funds.
