Haunted House Planning Meeting Today at Globe Library

The Globe Public Library is looking for volunteers to help organize a haunted house in October.

There’s a planning meeting today (Friday) at 2:30pm at the library.


Fred Duval in Globe on Saturday

Gubernatorial candidate Fred Duval will be in Globe tomorrow (Saturday) to meet with voters.

He will be at CJD Consulting on North Broad Street (next to Enterprise car rentals) at 3:30pm.

Everyone is invited.


Sullivan Street to be Closed Saturday Between Inspiration and Miami Avenue

The Town of Miami announces that Sullivan Street in Miami will be blocked off between Inspiration and Miami Avenue tomorrow (Saturday) from 4 until 10:pm.

Gibson Street will be open.


Police Log

Yesterday morning an unoccupied vehicle rolled out of a driveway, down an embankment and into the side of a building on Prickly Pear Drive. There were no injuries.

Globe Police arrested 29 year old Keith Hopkins for organized retail theft at a business on Hill Street. Hopkins also had three outstanding warrants.

Officers responded to a report of shoplifting at a business on Highway 60. The item was returned and the business chose not to file charges. However, it was later learned that 31 year old David Colyott had given false information to the officer. Colyott was contacted and arrested for false reporting, identity theft and shoplifting.

43 year old Ralph Francisco was arrested for trespassing at a business on Hill Street.

54 year old Daniel Miller was arrested late last night for DUI.

27 year old Margaret Randall was a arrested on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct and criminal damage.

31 year old Ricky Lynch was arrested on a Graham County warrant for DUI.

Officers are investigating a fraudulent check reported at a business on North Broad Street and shoplifting at a business on Hunter Drive.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office cited and released 51 year old John Imhoff for disorderly conduct and threats and intimidation.

24 year old Emiliano Brewer was cited and released for disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating the burglary of an abandoned house on Locomotive Drive and a fight at a residence on Hammond.

Miami Music in the Park

Gila General Hospital Reunion Picnic

A Gila General Hospital Reunion Picnic will be held this Saturday (August 31) at 5:pm at the Miami Senior Center  It’s for anyone who worked or volunteered at Gila General Hospital and their spouses.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served but please bring a dish to share and your own beverage.

Hamburger Fry This Friday

Thanks to help from Freeport McMoRan, a work crew of prisoners from the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, and museum docents and helpers, those who attend the monthly hamburger fry this Friday (August 30) at the Gila County Historical Museum  will have the opportunity to visit on the lawn of the newly refurbished building.

In addition, the Bustle and Boots Square Dance Club will provide entertainment.

Serving for the monthly fry will begin at 5:30pm.


Fossil Creek Open House in Pine

The Coconino and Tonto National Forests will hold a public open house next week in Pine. It will be an opportunity for the public to provide comments and feedback on new concepts regarding the management of Fossil Creek and its future.

The Open House will be held on Thursday, September 5 at the Pine Senior Center.from 5:30 to 7:30pm.

Congress designated a portion of Fossil Creek as a Wild and Scenic River in 2009. That requires the Forest Service to “protect and enhance” the river’s free-flowing condition and water quality.


Gila County Health Department to Begin Scheduling Immunization Appointments

Next week the Gila County Health Department will begin scheduling appointments for immunizations. The hours are 2 to 4:pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Walk-ins will be accepted as availability permits.

Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday in the Claypool Circle K parking lot.

Globe Police arrested 26 year old Randall Philpot in connection with a domestic dispute at the Cobre Village Apartments. Philpot was charged with domestic violence assault, criminal damage, disorderly conduct and preventing the use of a telephone during an emergency.

50 year old Veronica Antonio was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

43 year old Ralph Francisco was arrested for criminal trespass at a business on Hill Street.

24 year old Vincent Doss was arrested for disorderly conduct.

29 year old Nadine Belknap was arrested for public consumption

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Jeremy Barentine at Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park for domestic violence assault, endangerment and disorderly conduct. The victim was taken to the hospital.

19 year old Christopher McInturff was cited and released for threats.

33 year old Lee Deiters was arrested on a child support warrant.

An attempted break in was reported at Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park.

Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a single vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on East Ash Street.

Globe Police arrested 33 year old Lee Deiters for domestic violence/assault after a domestic disturbance in the area of Ash Street and Hackney Avenue.

21 year old Dominique Gilmore was charged with domestic violence/disorderly conduct after a disturbance on South Eleventh Street.

23 year old Zachary Noland was arrested for shoplifting, attempted theft and false reporting at a business on South Broad Street. Noland also had warrants for attempted shoplifting and false reporting.

Two people were arrested yesterday afternoon at a business on Highway 60. 25 year old Orlando Tuffly was charged with shoplifting. 28 year old John Falquez was arrested on warrants for theft and shoplifting.

24 year old Brittany Martinez was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

47 year old Jonathan Edwards was arrested for giving a false name to an officer during a traffic stop.

Two juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Probation Department for fighting at Globe High School.

Officers are investigating shoplifting at a business on North Broad Street and a forged prescription at a business on Highway 60.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Leslie Davidson for trespassing at the Apache Gold Casino.

A deputy took a theft report at a residence on Apache Hills Lane.


Obituary

Lifelong Globe resident Raul Sanchez passed away August 25 at Banner Gardens Hospice in Mesa. He was 85. He is survived by 6 sons; 31 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for “Nuga” Sanchez will be held Saturday (August 31) at 9:am at Holy  Angels Catholic Church.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Dylan Earven Foundation.


Globe Election Results

The City of Globe has released  unofficial  results of  the Municipal Election.

The Home Rule Option—Proposition 300-- passed with about 64% of the votes.

Roberta Johnson defeated James Gillette for Globe City Council in District 3. Johnson had  a little less than 53% of the votes, Gillette around 46%.

Larry Alderman was unopposed in District 6.

Desmond Baker received 43 write-in votes in District 4, Sam Palmer 22, Bernard Wohlforth 21 and Mike Stapleton 17.

Globe City Clerk Gina Paul says there are still about 50 ballots that need to be scanned. They hope to have official results by this afternoon.

Miami Municipal Property Corporation Annual Meeting

The Miami Municipal Property Corporation will hold its annual meeting open to the public on Wednesday at 5:pm at Miami Town Hall.


Gila County Fair September 19-22

The 44th annual Gila County Fair is coming up September 19 through 22.

Fair entry forms must be received by Wednesday, September 18.

The four day event begins on Thursday, September 19. Friday is Senior Day; people 65 and over will enter free. Saturday is Apache Day, sponsored by the Apache Gold Casino. And the annual Junior Livestock Auction is on Sunday at 1:pm.

Every day of the fair will include vendors, a carnival, a petting zoo, livestock exhibits and livestock shows.

Fairbooks are available throughout the county at local libraries, businesses and the Chamber of Commerce.



Blood Drive October 2

A United Blood Services Blood Drive will be held on Wednesday, October 2 in the Globe High School auditorium.

Donations will be accepted from 8:am until 12:45pm.

Police Log

Globe Police contacted two people who were drinking in the creek area along Jesse Hayes Road. 48 year old Leola Upshaw was charged with criminal trespass. 32 year old Jesse Contares was also charged with criminal trespass and for public consumption.

51 year old Manuel Johnson was arrested yesterday for criminal trespass at a business on Highway 60.

44 year old Elvis Kinney was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for criminal trespass.

Officers are investigating a report of a domestic disturbance at a business on South Hill Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old inmate Justin Clyder on a contempt of court warrant for leaving the scene of an accident.

Deputies are investigating a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a residence on Marion Canyon; an assault reported at a residence on Calle de Loma; a theft of a license plate from a resident on Short Avenue; a theft at Apache Trail Mobile Home Park; and a burglary at a residence on Railroad Avenue.


Obituaries

Venda L. Palmer passed away Sunday at her home in San Carlos. She was 60. She is survived by 4 children; 4 sisters; 3 brothers; 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
The wake for Venda Palmer is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4:pm at the Wayne Salter residence. The funeral is Thursday at 10:am at Burdette Hall.

Dave Moraga, Jr. passed away August 20 at his home in Globe. He was 89. He is survived by his life partner Betty Mathews; his son; 3 daughters; 7 stepchildren;  his brother; 2 sisters; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Dave Moraga, Jr. will be held Saturday, September 7 from 2 to 6:pm at the American Legion Hall in Globe.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gila Aging Services or The Crossing Hospice Care.

Community Meeting Tuesday About New PBS Translators

Eight, Arizona PBS has installed brand new digital  translators in several rural areas, including Globe-Miami.

Globe-Miami now has free over-the-air access to Eight HD programming in high definition video, plus Eight’s other digital channels that are currently not available on cable. The new translator also provides access to the Sun Sounds reading service for the visually impaired.

Staff from Eight, Arizona PBS will be at the Globe Active Adult Center on Tuesday (August 27) at 10:30am to introduce this new service to the Globe-Miami area. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

Supervisors Meet Tuesday

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets in a Work Session Tuesday at 10:am.

They will discuss a revised fee schedule for Gila County Rabies Control and proposed revisions to Community Agency Economic Funding.


Tuesday is Globe Election Deadline

Tuesday (August 27)  is the last day to submit your ballot for the City of Globe Election. The deadline is 7:pm.

Ballots may be mailed or dropped off at the Globe City Office, the Globe Library or the Gila County Recorder’s Office.


First Friday Programs Return September 6

The first First Friday program of the season on September 6 will be a powerpoint presentation about the Grand Canyon. The guest speaker is historian Jim Turner.

The lecture series will continue on the first Friday of each month at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum.

Everyone is invited to attend this event at no charge. Light refreshments will be served following the program.


Police Log

A patient was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center after a motorcycle accident early Friday morning at the Pinto Valley Mine  turnoff.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision Saturday morning at 3rd and Ash Streets.

Saturday night the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 54 year old Rhonda Nock at Four Star Mobile Home Park for disorderly conduct/domestic violence, assault and criminal damage.

32 year old Jesse Contreras was arrested for disorderly conduct/domestic violence after a disturbance at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park.

On Friday, the Sheriff’s Office cited and released 19 year old Lesley Nielsen for false reporting to law enforcement.

Deputies are investigating a hit and run in the Shamrock area; a theft of a cell phone at a residence on Braley;  and a theft of medication reported at the Madera Peak Apartments.

On Saturday Globe Police arrested 33 year old Reggie Standing at a residence on North Broad Street for sexual assault.

21 year old Mathew Walters was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal damage at a business on North Broad  Street.

Three people were arrested on Friday at a residence on South Third Street. 29 year old Nadine Belknap, 43 year old Kyle Cook and 32 year old Kenneth Irving were charged with criminal trespass.

41 year old Trisha Simmons was arrested for forgery, fraudulent schemes and identity theft.

50 year old Veronica Antonio was arrested Friday night at a business on South Hill Street for disorderly conduct, shoplifting and a warrant for shoplifting.

43 year old Ralph Francisco was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for criminal trespass.

Officers are investigating a domestic disturbance on Oak Street; shoplifting at a business on Highway 60; a burglary on South Third Street; and criminal damage at a residence on North Devereaux.

Pinetop-Lakeside Police arrested 27 year old Clint Wright of  Bylas on a failure to appear warrant for misconduct involving a weapon.

The Department of Public Safety in Tucson arrested 39 year old Nora Peru of Globe on a failure to comply warrant for shoplifting and a child support warrant.



Globe Council Meets Tonight

Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

The Council will proclaim September to be Senior Center Month and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. There will also be a Memorial for Globe Active Adult Center Director Jane Eck.

The Council will consider an Operations Agreement between the Globe Active Adult Center and Gila Aging Services.

The Council will also consider an Intergovernmental Agreement with Gila County for $10,000 for nutrition programs at the Globe Active Adult Center  and an Amendment to the Globe City Code Grease Interceptor Policy.
