Police Log

The Gila County task Force arrested 42 year old Patrick Cepress on warrants for possession of a dangerous drug, drug paraphernalia, use of a dangerous drug and driving with a suspended license.

29 year old Jephthah Bender was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Tucson Police arrested 29 year old Raphael Coppen of Globe on a failure to comply warrant for domestic violence, threats and intimidation, and damage to property.


Obituary

Paul Chambers passed away January 17. He was 74. He is survived by his wife Penny and 2 sisters.
Visitation for Paul Chambers is Monday, January 27 at 9:30am at Central Heights Baptist Church.The funeral follows at 10:30.
The family requests that donations in his name be made to Banner Institute Research for Alzheimer's.

Building Futures for Families Presents Free Relationship Class

Building Futures for Families is presenting a free class this Saturday (January 25) on building relationship tools.

The class will be held from 9:am to 5:pm at Arizona Youth Partnership on South Broad Street in Globe.

'Seussical the Musical, Jr.'

Detour Company Theatre will present a performance of “Seussical the Musical, Jr.” this Saturday (January 25) at 3:30pm. It will be at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts.

There is no admission charge but donations will be accepted to offset the company’s travel expenses.

Tonto National Monument Special Tours This Weekend

Tonto National Monument is offering two special interpretive programs this weekend. The programs are led by National Park Service Rangers at archaeological sites in the Tonto National Forest.

A tour of the Schoolhouse Point Platform Mound takes place on Friday (January 24) at 2:pm. This site is located at the west side of Roosevelt Lake. It is unique because it was occupied for more than 100 years while most of the other prehistoric settlements in the area were smaller and only occupied briefly.

A tour of Cline Terrace Platform Mound will take place on Saturday at 2:pm. This site is located at the east side of Roosevelt Lake and was a center of activity for more than 150 years.

The Tonto National Monument is open every day except Christmas from 8:am to 5:pm.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 22 year old Kyle Ott at a residence on Euclid Avenue for domestic violence/criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

26 year old Sarah Miller was arrested on a warrant for fraudulent schemes.

The Department of Public Safety arrested 25 year old Destry Phillips of Miami on a failure to pay warrant for disorderly conduct/fighting.

Meeting to Discuss Combining Globe and Miami School Districts

A public meeting to discuss the possibility of combining the Globe and Miami School Districts will be held on Wednesday, February 12. It will be from 5:30 to 7:pm in the Supervisors’ Hearing Room at the Gila County Courthouse.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 20 year old Alex Rodriguez on a probation violation warrant for criminal damage.

The Gila County Sheriff's office arrested 30 year old Levi Sullivan on a failure to comply warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Obituary

Christopher G. Chavez of Globe passed away January 16 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. He was 61. He is survived by his wife Linda; his children Christopher Chavez, Jr., Robert Cano and Olivia Parish; 2 brothers; his sister; his mother; and 3 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Christopher Chavez will be held Saturday (January 25) at 11:am at Lamont Mortuary.

Globe Police arrested 44 year old Daniel Flores early yesterday morning at a business on Hill Street on a child support warrant.

An officer issued a referral to an incorrigible juvenile at Copper Country Mobile Home Park.

Mesa Police arrested 34 year old Richard Sandoval on a child support warrant.


Obituaries

Nicolasa Garcia passed away January 16. She was 74. She is survived by her husband Pedro; 13 children; 46 grandchildren and 20 plus great grandchidlren.
Visitation for Nicolasa Garcia is Thursday (January 23) at 5:30pm at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 7:pm. The funeral is Friday at 10:am.

Judith Ann Rice, formerly known as Judi  Langley, passed away January 14 at Heritage Health Care Center. She was 65. She is survived by her daughter; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Judith Rice will be held Friday (January 24) at Bulman Miles Globe Chapel.

Felipe J. Ortega passed away January 13 in Mesa. He is survived by his wife Mary; 2 sisters; 4 daughters; 3 sons; 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Rosary for Felipe Ortega is Saturday at 10:30am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Mass is at 11:00.



Supervisors Meet Today

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets today (Tuesday) at 10:am.

Gila County Attorney Bradley Beauchamp will present the Officer of the Quarter Award to DPS Officer Seth Meeske.

There will be a Public Hearing on a revised Planning and Zoning fee schedule.

The Supervisors will canvass the results of the Miami Unified School District’s Budget Override Election.

They will also vote to accept the Rose Mofford Archival Collection to be displayed at the Miami Memorial Library.


Gila County Science Fair February 26

The Gila County Regional Science Fair takes place on Wednesday, February 26 at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum in Miami.

Last year 21 students from Gila County qualified for and earned medals at the Arizona State Science and Engineering Fair.

First place winners in each category and division will compete in the regional fair. Winners can then compete at the Phoenix Convention Center March 31 through April 2. You can find more information at gilacountyschools.org.

'Environmental Road Show' Stops in Globe

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality's “Environmental Road Show” stops in Globe today (Tuesday) from 1 to 3:pm at the Gila County Courthouse.

ADEQ staff will discuss potential recycling funding opportunities, future electronic waste recycling events and brownfields grant opportunities.

ADOT’s Adopt a Highway officials will also be there to talk about the process for volunteers to adopt sections of Arizona highways for litter cleanup.

And Keep Arizona Beautiful officials will discuss their statewide litter prevention and beautification programs.

The free event is open to everyone.

Police Log

Last night Globe Police arrested 19 year old Joseph Dillon for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

19 year old Adrian Jordan was arrested on Saturday on warrants for assault and misconduct involving weapons

On Friday Globe Police arrested 35 year old John Prall of Phoenix for domestic violence/disorderly conduct after a disturbance at a business on Highway 60.

51 year old Keith Bryant was arrested Friday afternoon after a collision on Highway 60. Bryant was found to be impaired and was charged with aggravated assault due to the injuries sustained by the other people in the collision.

35 year old Danielle Guzman was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

Mesa Police arrested 32 year old Jesse Amado of Claypool on a child support warrant

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 Alena Upshaw for driving with a suspended license.

On Saturday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, the Gila County Task Force and Globe Police arrested 19 year old Ryan Amos for burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

21 year old Michael Jimenez was arrested on a warrant for domestic violence/disorderly conduct and criminal damage.

Jeanette Ortega of Globe passed away January 15. She was 77. She is survived by 4 sons; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Rosary for Jeanette Ortega is Thursday (January 23) at 9:30am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:am.
