Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision early yesterday afternoon on Highway 60. Shortly after that there was a one vehicle accident. The driver was given medical attention and a report was taken.

Two people were arrested at a traffic stop yesterday evening. 25 year old Justin Durbin was charged with driving with a suspended license. 20 year old Michael Jimenez was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers responded to a report of a man in the roadway in the area of Hill Street. 30 year old Aaron Alaniz was arrested for disorderly conduct.

19 year old Darie Roehm was arrested yesterday morning for violating a protection order.

Officers are investigating a theft from a vehicle on Skyline Drive; a burglary at a residence on Adriatic Avenue; and criminal damage to a window at a business on North Broad Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Howard Bunch of Roosevelt for domestic violence/assault.

Deputies are investigating a report of arson at a residence on Winchester and a report of threats taken at a residence on Inspiration.

Miami Fiesta This Saturday

The Miami Fiesta starts at 9:am Saturday at Bullion Plaza Park. It continues until 11:pm.

The event includes performances by Lynn’s School of Dance, the Copper Country Riders, the Gila County Cinderella Dance Group, and an Elvis Show.

The Chihuahua Races take place from 3:30 to 5:pm.

A Dance Contest at 5:30pm  will be followed by a Street Dance from 7 to 11:pm featuring Neto Vasquez and the band “Imagine.”


Blood Pressure Checks at GAAC

United Fund Campaign Kick's Off September 26

The United Fund of Globe-Miami will kick off its annual Fundraising Campaign on Thursday, September 26 with a breakfast hosted by Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.

The money raised during the campaign will benefit the Grand Canyon Council Boy Scouts of America, Gila Aging Services, St. Vincent’s of Holy Angels, the Boys and Girls Club, High Desert Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, Bullion Plaza Cultural Center, Gila House, Copper Cities Youth Sports, Gila Community Food Bank, Miami Genesis, Salvation Army and Gila County 4-H Leaders Council.

Miami Hardscrabble Series returns September 18

The first Miami Hardscrabble series presentation of the season will take place on Wednesday, September 18 at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center  and Museum.

“Dik” Mickle will tell stories of Spanish gold and lost treasure.

Mickle’s presentation about Geronimo last season is now being shown in a multimedia condensed version for vistors in the museum’s Native American/Cox Room.

The Miami Hardscrabble presentations are free and light refreshments are offered following the program.


Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Highway 60.

A one vehicle non-injury accident occurred yesterday morning on Pine Street.

Globe Police arrested 33 year old Karl Lopez for trafficking in stolen property in connection with a residential burglary.

18 year old Albert Mendoza of Superior was arrested yesterday for theft at a business on Highway 60.

24 year old Vincent Doss  was arrested on a child support warrant.

Officers are investigating reports of fraudulent schemes, child endangerment, child neglect and criminal damage.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office served 24 year old inmate Roxana Moon a DPS warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Deputies are investigating an assault at the Claypool Circle K; criminal damage on Calle De Loma; and  a theft at a residence on Euclid.

Police Log

There was a hit and run collision yesterday afternoon on Highway 60. The accident is under investigation.

Globe Police arrested two people for domestic violence/assaault yesterday afternoon at a residence on Buena Vista Drive.  22 year old Emilio Salas and 20 year old Hunter Garner were booked into the Gila County Jail.

24 year old Bronson Shorten was arrested yesterday for threats and intimidation at a business on Hospital Drive.

43 year old Ralph Francisco was arrested for criminal trespass late last night at a business on East Ash Street.

Officers are investigating a theft at a residence on East Angal Way and a theft at a business on Highway 60.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office cited and released 21 year old Solomon Williams for shoplifting.

A theft report was taken at a residence on Cherry Avenue.

Gila County Attorney to Offer Two Training Sessions

Gila County Attorney Bradley Beauchamp is sponsoring two training sessions in September.

The “Cenpatico Crisis System” informational session in Globe begins at 9:am on Tuesday, September 24 and at 1:pm on Wednesday, September 25 in the Supervisors Hearing Room at the Gila County Courthouse.

The “Frontline on the Homefront” session helps service members, veterans and their families. It offers four hours of continuing education for law enforcement, EMS and behavioral health. It starts at 9:am on Wednesday, September 25 at the Gila County Courthouse.

A presentation by American Lands Council President Ken Ivory begins at 10:am on Wednesday at Globe City Hall.


Blood Drive Wednesday at CVRMC

Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center is having a Blood Drive on Wednesday in the MOB Conference Room.

Donations will be accepted from 9:am until 1:pm.


Miami Fiesta is This Saturday

The Miami Fiesta takes place this Saturday (September 14).

The event includes the famous chihuahua races. The Fiesta Committee is also looking for pictures and bios of Miami’s Hispanic citizens who had an influence on the Fiesta. You can bring the pictures and information to Miami Town Hall or call 473-4403.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 27 year old Jesse Parcell for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

43 year old Kyle Cook was arrested for trespassing at a business on South Hill Street.

41 year old Melvin Kenton was arrested on a Maricopa County warrant for assault.

Officers are investigating vehicle burglaries on Kotor Street and Andrea Circle, and shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.



More Information About Weekend Drug Raid

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office has issued more information about the drug raid that occurred in Globe over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Gila County Drug, Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force, the Sheriff’s Office, Globe PD, the County Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Public Safety SWAT team, executed a search warrant at a residence on Haskins Road.

Six people were taken into custody. About 13 grams of Methamphetamine was seized, along with three firearms and numerous drug paraphernalia items. Charges include possession of dangerous drugs for sale, misconduct involving weapons, participating in a criminal street gang, and aggravated assault.

The investigation is still going on and more information may be released later.



Globe Library Closed Today

The Globe Public Library is closed today (Tuesday) for staff training.

Normal business hours will resume tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9:am.

Obituary

Josafina Ybarra Casillas passed away September 5 at her home in Miami. She was 94. She is survived by her daughters Ramona Cameron and Connie Chambers; and 2 grandchildren.
Visitation for Josafina Cassillas is Friday (September 13) at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision Saturday night on Highway 60.

Yesterday the Gila County Task Force arrested 31 year old Matthew Widner for possession of a dangerous drug, possession of a narcotic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Friday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Adam Contreras for criminal trespassing and for threats and intimidation.

Deputies are investigating criminal damage at St. Paul Lutheran Church; a domestic incident at a residence on Main Street; a domestic incident in the area of Mackey Hill; a report of threats taken at a residence on Old Oak; trespassing at a residence on Montecito; a theft at a residence on Railroad; and criminal damage at a residence on Globe Avenue.

On Saturday Globe Police arrested 31 year old Andrew Whidden for fraudulent schemes, forgery and tampering with a public record.

32 year old Justin Juarez of Phoenix was arrested Friday morning for causing a disturbance at a business on Highway 60.

27 year old Audrey Poeling was arrested Friday for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60. Poeling also had a contempt of court warrant for criminal nuisance.

23 year old Timothy Watko was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for aggravated DUI.

51 year old Manuel Johnson was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for criminal trespassing.

Officers are investigating a report of a domestic disturbance on North Fourth Street; an assault reported at a business on North Main Street; criminal damage at a residence on North Sutherland; a fraud report taken at a business on North Broad Street; shoplifting at a business on Highway 60; shoplifting at a business on South Hill Street; a theft at a business on North Broad Street; a theft at a business on Highway 60; a burglary at a residence on Kotor Drive; and a burglary at a residence on Monroe Street.



Six People Arrested in Weekend Drug Raid


On Saturday a raid by DPS and the Gila County Task Force resulted in the arrest of six people for participation in a criminal syndicate. Four of them were  charged with participation in a criminal street gang, four were  charged with misconduct involving  weapons, and three were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia,

34 year old Tony Cruz was also charged with possession of dangerous drugs for sale and a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and threats and intimidation. 

The five other people who were  arrested at that time are  41 year old Oscar Fryer, 33 year old Albert Reyes, 21 year old Shaydee Perez, 35 year old Gabriel Cabrera, and 26 year old Amber Lucero.


Miami School Board Meets Tonight

The Miami School Board meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30 in the Miami High School Library.


Globe Council Meets Tonight at 6:00

Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

They will adopt the results of the August 27 Municipal Election and consider a recount for District 4.

The agenda also includes an Operations Agreement between the Globe Active Adult Center and Gila Aging Services.

The Council will be introduced to Library Clerk Adria Ricke. The Empty into Awesome Award will be presented to Famous Star, Jr. And there will be a presentation about Utah Congressman Ken Ivery’s visit to Globe on  Wednesday (September 11) to conduct an educational presentation about the “Transfer of Public Lands Legislation.”

A lengthy Executive Session will include legal advice about pending contracts and possible litigation.
 
The Council will  receive legal advice about the requirement for public bodies to post minutes or recordings of all meetings on the City’s website, along with a statement of legal actions taken. They will also receive legal advice about compliance with the Arizona Open Meeting Law and Public Records Act.


Miami Council Meets Tonight at 6:30

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

They will consider approving a  Veterans Day Celebration on Monday, November 11, consisting of a Veterans Day Parade, Ceremony and cookout, with the Town providing traffic control and necessary barricades.

The Council will also consider a proposed sewer connection from the Cobre Valley Plaza to the Miami Wastewater Collection System.

An Executive Session will consider legal advice about possible litigation or settlement concerning the Brownfields grant for the Barcon/Fitzpatrick Building and the EPA’s Single Audit Report.
