Globe City Council Meets Monday


Globe City Council will have a Work Study Session  on Monday at 6:pm.

The agenda includes Recognition of Sgt. Stephen Shaw who is retiring from the Globe Police Department.

There will be a presentation by Dennis Hull about the Wounded Warrior Program.

The Council will declare the week of October 22-26 as the Eleventh Annual Cities and Towns Week.

Finance Director Teresa Williams will give a Budget Review.

The Council will discuss the possibility of a Citizen Survey. They will also discuss the purchase of a land parcel from Gila County for $1.00 to be used for transportation and flood control.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19 year old Chelsea Cluster on charges of domestic violence/assault and disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident at a residence on Spurlock and criminal damage at a business on Golden Hill.

Globe Police arrested 25 year old Valarie King early this morning at a residence on Haskins for domestic violence/criminal damage.

An officer took a report of a theft that occurred at a business on Ash Street.

Obituary


Peter Gastelo Moya of Fontana, California, passed away September 27. He was 78. He is survived by his sisters Dolores Soltero and Mary Ellen Torrez.
A Memorial Mass will be held  Friday, October 19, at 10:00 at Holy Angels Catholic Church.

Benefit Pool Fundraiser for Jesse Luna


A Pool Fundraiser to benefit the Jesse Luna Kidney Fund will be held on Sunday at the Huddle beginning at 1:pm.

There will also be food, prize raffles and a 50/50 raffle.

Bicycle Racing at Globe Community Center


A bicycle racing event will take place at the Globe Community Center Park on Saturday.. The first race is at 10:00.

You can pre-register online at www.larouedor.com  The cost is $25, $5 for Juniors. It’s $5 more the day of the races. Registration for additional category entries is $10 or 6 cans of food on race day.

Drive Through Flu Shot Clinic


The Gila County Health Department is holding a Drive Through Influenza Vaccination Clinic for the community on Friday (October 12).

It will be from 9:am until Noon at High Desert Middle School.

The cost for adults and children with private insurance is $20.

The shots are free for Native American and uninsured children, and children with AHCCCS. They are also covered by Medicare Part B.

The High Dose Flu Shots for adults 65 or older without Medicare Part B are $50.

Early Arizona History Talk Friday at Bullion Plaza


Eddie Colyott will give the second of three talks on Arizona's early history on Friday at the Bullion Plaza Museum.

This week’s presentation is about “The Rise from Hunter/Gatherers to Agricultural Empires” in Arizona’s prehistory. It starts at 6:30.

Burro and Bake Sale on Friday


The Globe TOPS Club is having a burro and bake sale on Friday from 8:am to 2:pm at the Gila County Courthouse.

They are selling red chili,  green chili and bean burritos, and lots of baked goods.

AARP Driver Safety Class at GAAC November 1.


The AARP Driver Safety Course will be given at the Globe Active Adult Center on Thursday, November 1 from 12:30 to 4:30. The course will be free to active military personnel, veterans and dependents.

The class is $14 for non-veterans, $12 if you are an AARP member.

Police Log


Globe Police responded to a call early this morning about two suspicious men at a business on East Ash. One of the men was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center with a head injury. The second man was asked to leave the area.

Officers are investigating a report of a stolen vehicle.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of criminal damage at a residence on Pima Street.



Obituaries


Aurelio Johnson  Flores of Miami passed away Tuesday. He was 85.
Visitation for “AJ” Flores will be Wednesday, October 17 at 9:am. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Eugene Astor of San Carlos passed away October 7 at San Carlos Indian Hospital. He was 77. He is survived by his children Karen Sisto, Kathy Jones and Freddie Astor.
The wake is tomorrow (Friday) at 4:pm at the Eugene Astor residence. The funeral is Saturday at 1:pm.

A Memorial service for Jesse Dillard will be held Saturday at 10:am at Lamont Mortuary.

Miami Jr./Sr. High School Parent Symposium Thursday


The First Annual Miami Jr. and Sr. High School Parent Symposium will be held tomorrow  (Thursday) at 7:pm. Parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers.

The event also includes representatives from Gila Community College, CVIT Vocational Education, the AGUILA Leadership Institute; Josten’s; a special guest motivational speaker and a lot more.

Miami Public Meetings


The Town of Miami is hosting two Public Meetings tomorrow (Thursday) at 10:am and 6:pm about a possible Brownfields Grant application. The Town is applying  for funds to perform a community-wide assessment of Brownfields sites in the community.

Brownfields sites are properties that generally have not been redeveloped because they are either contaminated or believed to be contaminated by petroleum or hazardous materials.

During the meeting, Town representatives will discuss the application and the application process. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions  for use in the grant application.

Another meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 6.

A draft of the proposed application will be available for  public review at Miami Town Hall from October 22 to November 13.

Independent Riders Toy Run on November 3


The 11th Annual Independent Riders Toy Run will take place on Saturday, November 3.

Breakfast and registration is at 10:am at the Copper Mountain Inn. The run starts at 11. The cost to take part in the Toy Run is $15 each or $20 with a rider.

A dinner will be held at the Shamrock. There will be an auction, raffles and music starting at 7:pm.

There was a two vehicle injury accident yesterday evening on Highway 60. The accident is under investigation.

Yesterday Globe Police cited, booked and released 22 year old Vance Mata for unlawful use of a credit card.

26 year old Michael Taranga was arrested on warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and unlawful use of means of transportation; and for aggravated harassment and domestic violence.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a residence on North Main Street and  a burglary at a business on North Broad Street.

Obituary


Henry Enriquez of Peridot passed away October 6 at Banner Gardens Hospice House in Mesa. He was 73. He is survived by his wife Marjorie; 10 children; his sister; his brother; 47 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
The wake for Henry Enriquez is Friday at 4:pm at the Monica Enriquez residence. The funeral is Saturday at 10:am at St. Charles Catholic Church.

GAAC Alzheimer's Education and Support


The Globe Active Adult Center Alzheimer’s Education and Support meeting is Wednesday (October 10)  at 1:pm.

They’ll have tips to help you care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease.

CVRMC Auxiliary Purse Sale on Thursday


The Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Auxiliary is having a Purse Sale on Thursday (October 11) from 7:am to 4:pm. There will be purses, wallets, sunglasses, jewelry and more.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the hospital and the Auxiliary Scholarship Program.

The event will be held in the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Conference Room.

Candidate Forum Tonight


The Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce and Gila Community College are sponsoring a candidate forum tonight (Tuesday) from 6 to 9:pm. The forum will be held at the Gila Pueblo campus.

Police Log


Miami Fire Department responded to a call about a fire being started on Merritt Street. The fire was quickly put  out and there was no damage. The owner of the home was cited for reckless burning.

Miami Police arrested 26 year old David Vinsant for disorderly conduct/domestic violence and criminal damage.

Globe Police arrested two people after a disturbance at a residence on Manzanita. 35 year old Dylan Miles and 27 year old Gina Titla were arrested for domestic violence.

Officers were dispatched to Walmart after a call about a man harassing customers and staff. 45 year old Roger Longknife was charged with assault.

Globe Police are investigating criminal damage at Round Mountain Park.

A Gila County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 60 near Walmart. The driver finally stopped at Highway 60 and Milepost 241. 36 year old Jason Murphy was charged with unlawful flight from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle, endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, aggressive driving and criminal speed.

Deputies are investigating a burglary at a residence on First Avenue and a report of a runaway juvenile taken at a residence on Pyrite.

Supervisors Meet Tuesday Morning

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday at 10:am.

Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores will present the Officer of the Quarter award to Gila County Sheriff’s Sgt. Travis Baxley.

The Supervisors will proclaim October to be “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in Gila County. They will consider an amendment to an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Arizona Department of Transportation for the Six Shooter Canyon Road Sidewalk Project.

There will also be a couple of Planning and Zoning Public Hearings.

October 9 is Voter Registration Deadline


Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote in the November 6 general election. Early voting begins on Thursday.

Obituaries


Juanita Frances Rork passed away September 27 in Mesa. She was 78.
A Memorial Service for Juanita Rork will be held Saturday (October 13) at 10:30am at Miles Funeral Services Globe.

The funeral for Alfred Dale Cline will be held Saturday (October 13) at the Tonto Basin School. Food will be served following the service at the Butcher Hook patio.

Miami Council Meets Tonight


Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

The Council will approve a Veterans Day Celebration on November 11 from 10:am to 1:pm. It will include a Veterans Day Parade, Ceremony, Cookout, and possibly a small concert in the park.

They will consider the Ninth Amended Interim Emergency Fire Intergovernmental Agreement with the Globe Fire Department.

The Council will also consider several recommendations from the Wastewater Advisory Board.

Police Log


A car hit a pedestrian yesterday afternoon on Pima..One person was transported by air to a Valley hospital. Another was booked into the Gila County Jail.

Nobody was hurt in a one-vehicle accident yesterday around noon on Inspiration.

No injuries were reported in a two vehicle accident Friday morning at the intersection of Oak and Pine Streets.

Miami Police arrested 51 year old Patricia Hunter for disorderly conduct/domestic violence and criminal damage.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30 year old Lariena Alvarado for aggravated assault/use of a deadly weapon and DUI.

24 year old Seth Busy was arrested on failure to pay warrants for shoplifting and DUI.

Deputies are investigating a delayed report of a domestic disturbance and criminal damage taken at a residence on Russell Road; a report of telephone fraud taken at a residence on Woodward; and a fight in the area of 1st Avenue.

On Saturday Globe Police arrested two people after a fight at the Shell station on Highway 60. 19 year old Mario Dorame and 18 year old Jacob Sanchez were charged with assault.

32 year old Joshua David was arrested for domestic violence/disorderly conduct Saturday night at a business on Highway 60.

20 year old Brittany Velasquez was arrested Saturday morning in connection with a shoplifting incident that occurred on October 3.

27 year old Jessica Morales was arrested Friday night for organized retail theft and trafficking in stolen property in connection with an October 3 incident at Walmart.

A man who fled on foot from a Sheriff’s deputy late Friday night was apprehended by Globe PD. 35 year old Daryl  Amonette was arrested for DUI.

Officers are investigating criminal damage in the City Park parking lot; a theft from a business on Highway 60; a burglary at a residence in Copper Country Mobile Home Park; and a harassment report taken at a residence in Copper Country Mobile Home Park.
