Miami Senior Center Medicare Open Enrollment Presentation

Bess Bennett will be at the Miami Senior Center on Wednesday with a presentation about Medicare Pre-Enrollment. She’ll have tips to help you prepare for the upcoming open enrollment period.

Open enrollment starts on October 15 and ends on December 7.

Gila County Property Tax Bills Will Be Delayed

The Gila County Treasurers Office announces that the 2013 property tax bills will not be mailed in September this year. The delinquency date will be moved to accommodate the delay.

Last year the Treasurers Office was notified that their property tax computer program was becoming obsolete. The Board of Supervisors approved a new program last spring. The conversion process is still going on.

The Treasurers Office does not expect the delay to be very long. If you have any questions call 425-3231 ext.8702.

Apache Jii Coming October 19

The 30th Annual Apache Jii event will take place in downtown Globe on Saturday, October 19. It starts at 9:am and continues until 4:30pm.

The old courthouse will be the central location for the day’s festivities.

You’ll see the talented Hoop Dancers and the  Apache Crown Dancers, and hear music from flute players and other musicians. There will also be plenty of arts and crafts.

The food varies from Apache fry bread and Indian tacos to acorn stew.

There is no admission charge.


Blood Drive on September 11 at CVRMC

Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center will have a Blood Drive on Wednesday, September 11 in the MOB Conference Room.

Donations will be accepted from 9:am to 1:pm.

Miami Senior Center to Offer Flu Shots

The Miami Senior Center is offering flu shots on Monday, September 9, from 12:30 until 1:15pm. 

The flu shot is free with a Medicare card.

Police Log

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52 year old Sandra Armendarez for domestic violence assault.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident on Central Drive; a domestic incident on Calle De Loma; trespasing on Woodward Street; and illegal burning at Alhambra Mobile Home Park.

Globe Police arrested 48 year old William Salter for trespassing at a business on East Ash Street.

21 year old Jacob Reynoso was arrested on a Maricopa County warrant for DUI.

21 year old Ramon Gonzales of Dewey was arrested on a Globe warrant for failure to comply with court orders.

Officers are investigating an assault report taken at a residence on Beruatti; a report of threats taken at a business on East Ash Street; and criminal damage at a residence on Halby Court.


Obituary

Mary Alice Nava Zaragoza of Miami passed away August 24 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. She is survived by her children Belinda Sanchez, Corinne Bethel, Mona Ward, Trish Dominguez and Greg Zaragoza; her husband “Reno” Zaragoza and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rosary for Mary Alice Zaragoza will be Saturday, September 14 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Memorial Mass is at 11:00.


Supervisors Meet Today

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets today (Tuesday) at 10:am.

The agenda includes an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Gila County Community College District to provide $250,000 for utility expenses, and repair and maintenance of the College’s facilities at the three Globe and Payson campuses.

The Supervisors will consider and possibly approve the final distribution of Gila County’s Secure Rural Schools and Communiies funds. Gila County School Districts will receive $144,000 and $5,000 will go to roads.

The Supervisors will consider accepting Russell Road as a public road to be maintained by the County.

Free Food Handler Training Class in San Carlos

The San Carlos Office of Environmental Health and Engineering is offering a free food handler training class Tuesday at 10:am. It will be in the HHS Social Service Conference Room.

Gila Reading Council Interactive Presentation for Teachers

Gila Reading Council will have an interactive presentation for teachers on Tuesday, September 10 at Destiny School. It starts at 4:45pm.

The presentation is called “Holiday Books are Not Just for Reading.” Bring your favorite holiday book and an activity to go with it.

Local fire agencies responded to an ATV accident around noon yesterday on Adobe.

There was a two vehicle injury accident last night on Highway 70. Several people were taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.

A single vehicle collision Friday on South East Street resulted in the arrest of 26 year old Seneca Cunejo for theft of means of transportation and assault.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 46 year old Terry Noland on a warrant for extreme DUI.

33 year old Karl Lopez was arrested yesterday on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct.

On Friday 49 year old William Laborine was arrested on a child support warrant.

Officers are investigating a delayed burglary report taken at a residence on North Main Street; criminal damage at a residence on Hackney Avenue; criminal damage in the area of Pipeline; and a report of telephone harassment.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Brittany Martinez on Saturday for possession of marijuana.

26 year old Levi Packard was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for aggravated domestic violence.

33 year old Joshua Ensworth was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct and criminal damage.

Deputies arrested a juvenile late Friday night at a residence on Woodward. The juvenile was charged with aggravated assault/domestic violence, endangerment, disorderly conduct and underage consumption

25 year old Javier Garcia was arrested Friday for false reporting to law enforcement, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and a failure to comply warrant for theft.

41 year old Leo Newman was arrested Friday for possession of drug paraphernalia.

42 year old Patrick Cepress was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and  driving with a suspended license.

46 year old inmate Scott Brakefield was arrested on a contempt of court warrant for DUI.

Deputies are investigating domestic incidents on Upper Pinal Creek and on Copper Street; an assault report taken at a residence on Young Street; criminal damage at a residence on Locomotive; a theft at a residence on Russell Road; harassment reported at a residence on Quail Run; a report of harassing phone calls taken at a residence on Brantley’s Court; and shoplfting at the Claypool Circle K.

Obituary

Frank Walls of Globe passed away Saturday. He was 76.
A Memorial Service for Frank Walls will be held Wednesday (September 4) at Lamont Mortuary.
