Memorial Day Ceremony in Miami

A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Monday (May 26) at Veterans Memorial Park in Miami. It starts at 9:am.

Two families will be honored at the ceremony. The family of Manuel V. Mendoza, a World War II veteran, and the family of Clarence Eugene Goss, who was killed in Vietnam, will receive  plaques.

Soft drinks and a snack will be offered after the ceremony. 

You will also be able to order bricks for the Miami Veterans Memorial Wall.




Memorial Day Potluck

The American Legion Post and the VFW Post invite the community to a Memorial Day potluck on Monday, May 26 at Veterans Memorial Park in Globe. It starts at 11:am.


Globe Active Adult Center Memorial Day Picnic on Saturday

The Globe Active Adult Center will have a Memorial Day Picnic on Saturday (May 24) from 1 to 4:pm at the Jane Eck Memorial Park.

They will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs, along with music, bingo and (maybe) a car show.

Police Log

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Joe Dejong at a residence at 2nd Street and South Street on a child support warrant.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 25 year old Alberto Curiel on warrants for speeding and racing on a highway.

The Arizona Department of Public safety in Phoenix arrested 44 year old Kristina Nielson of Globe on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct.

Globe Police arrested 34 year old Angel Thompson  on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct.


Obituary

Hardt Hooke, Sr. of Peridot passed away May 18 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. He was 59.
The wake for Hardt Hooke is Saturday (May 24) at 4:pm at the Nancy Hooke residence. The funeral is Sunday at 1:pm at Burdette Hall.

Roland E. Valencia Jr. of Show Low passed away May 12. He was 45.
Visitation for Roland Valencia is Friday from 8:30 to 10:30am at Lamont Mortuary. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:am at the Miami Church of Christ.

A United Blood Services Blood Drive will be held Thursday in the MOB Conference Room at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.

Joyce Hamlet passed away Monday at her home in Globe. She was 74.
A Memorial Service for Joyce Hamlet will be held Thursday at 4:pm at Lamont Mortuary.

Kiehne Apologizes for Shooting Remarks

District 1 Congressional candidate Gary Kiehne has aplogized for saying that most mass shootings are by Democrats.

Kiehne made the remarks at a Republican primary debate Saturday in Florence.

Kiehne says his comments were inaccurate and that he shouldn’t have made the remarks without any reservations.

Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin is also running for the First District Congressional seat. He says Kiehne should withdraw from the race because of a pattern of “bizarre and deeply offensive” remarks.

The August 26 primary election will decide who faces incumbent US Representative Ann Kirkpatrick


Police Log

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52 year old Scott Bullman for domestic violence  at a residence on McKinney Avenue.

27 year old Pamela Zufelt was arrested for domestic violence and aggravated assault, and a failure to comply warrant  for disorderly conduct.

Globe Police arrested 36 year old Erich Baughman for possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Jafus Classay, Sr. passed away May 15 at San Carlos Indian Hospital. He was 62.
The wake for Jafus Classay is Saturday at 5:am at Burdette Hall. The funeral is at 9:00.

Brenda Benavides passed away May 16 at Banner Baywood Medical Center. She was 66.
The wake for Brenda Benavides is Friday at 4:pm at the Hunter residence in San Carlos. The funeral is Saturday at 10:am at Grace Lutheran Church.

Police Log

On Saturday, Globe Police arrested 20 year old Terisa Lupe for hindering an investigation and conspiracy to hinder an investigation.

21 year old Steven Morales was arrested for DUI. His passenger, 19 year old Samuel Morales, was charged with underage consumption.


30 year old Michael Agard was arrested at a business on North Broad Street for loitering and public consumption.

CD1 Candidate Says Most Mass Shootings Are By Democrats

Congressional District 1 candidate Gary Kiehne made some interesting comments about guns at a Republican primary debate in Florence on Saturday.

The Arizona Daily Star quotes Kiehne as saying that when it comes to mass shootings, “if you look at the fiascos that have occurred, 99 percent of them have been by Democrats pulling their guns out and shooting people. So I don’t think you have a problem with the Republicans.”

The August 26 primary election will decide who faces incumbent U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick.

Globe City Council Meets Tonight

Globe City Council meets  tonight  (Monday) at 6:pm.

The agenda includes the $22 million Tentative Budget for the next fiscal year.

The Council will also consider an agreement with the Arizona Commerce Authority for a Rural Economic Development Grant; a Memorandum of Understanding to financially support an analysis of Regional Dispatch Services in the community; and an amendment to the Globe City Code concerning Boards, Committees and Commissions.
