Globe Council Meets Monday


Globe City Council meets Monday at 6pm.

They’ll proclaim the month of September to be “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.”

The Council will discuss the mayor’s nominations for committee asignments and a wastewater facility generator.

Miami School Board Meets Monday


The Miami School Board meets Monday at 6:30pm.

The Board will meet in an Executive Session for a student disciplinary hearing following the regular meeting.

MHS Class of 1965 'Birthday Celebration'


The Miami High School Class of 1965 is joining their 65 years of age with Arizona’s Centennial to have a “Birthday Celebration” on October 20. It will be held at Miami Memorial Park.

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday morning at Oak and Ash Streets.

One driver was cited after a two vehicle accident yesterday morning on Highway 60.

Another two vehicle accident ocurred yesterday on North Broad Street.

Globe Police arrested 42 year old Martin Cassadore for disorderly conduct late last nightt in the area of East Ash and North Broad Street.

Officers are investigating a harassment report taken at a residence on Bailey.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Malorie Tucker on a probation violation warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are investigating a report of illegal dumping in the area of Silver Hills Road.

Miami Fiesta on Saturday


The Miami Fiesta takes place Saturday at the Bullion Plaza Park from 9:am until 10:pm.

Events include the famous Chihuahua Races at 3:30pm and the Dance Under the Stars from 7 to 11:pm. Music by Neto Vasquez and the Band Imagine.

Mark Twain's 'Is He Dead?' at CVCA


The Mark Twain farce “Is He Dead?” will be perfomed Friday and Saturday, and again next weekend at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts.

Police Log


Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report that a man who had stolen a gun from a vehicle in Miami was seen in the area of Russell Road. After a short foot chase, 20 year old Kevin Swedick was arrested for theft of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Globe Police are investigating a burglary at a business on Ash Street.

Obituaries


Hilton Elliot Reede of San Carlos passed away September 9 at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa. He was 65. He is survived by his daughter Mildred; his son; his brother Herbert; and 8 grandchildren.
The wake for Hilton Reede is tomorrow (Friday) at 4:pm at the Christine Reede residence. The funeral is Saturday at 9:am at St. Charles Catholic Church.

Russell Raymond Houser of Globe pased away September 8 at Heritage Healthcare Center. He was 99. He is survided by 3 children; 2 sisters; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Russell Houser will be private.

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon at Broad and Santee Street. One driver was cited for failure to control her vehicle to avoid an accident.

Canyon Fire Department responded to an unattended fire around noon yesterday on Westridge. A Sheriff’s deputy discovered that the person who made the fire also didn’t have a water source so their burning permit was revoked.

Miami Police arrested 19 year old Brandon Henderson for assault/domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

40 year old Donald Tuttle was arrested on a probation violation warrant for identity theft.

Yesterday the Gila County Task Force arrested three people near the Community Center. 18 year old Brandon Twohey and 20 year old Logan Freeman were arersted for possession of drug paraphernalia. 22 year old Joshua Mariscal was arrested on a Maricopa County warrant for probation violation on a charge of possession of marijuana.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a burglary on Alamo Way. The missing items were found in a local pawn shop. The case is under investigation.

Deputies are investigating a report of stolen ducks on Golden Hill and a theft of solar panels from a roof on Central Drive.

Globe Police arrested 34 year old Christina Henson on a failure to comply warrant for driving with a suspended license.

An officer took a report of a student in possession of drug paraphernalia at Globe High School. Officers are investigating  a report of a runaway juvenile; a theft from a residence on Euclid; a burglary at a business on North Broad Street; and shoplifting at Fry’s.

Obituary


Beautrice  Mares passed away Saturday at her home. She was 65. She is survived by her mother Dorothy Williams; her daughter; her son; her brother; 3 sisters, including Margaret Myers of Globe; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday at Trinity Baptist Church.

Alzheimer's Education and Support Group


If you are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia, you’re invited to the Alzheimer’s Education and Support group on Wednesday at 1:pm at the Globe Active Adult Center.

Story Hour at Globe Library


Preschool Story Hour begins  Thursday at the Globe Public Library.  Story hours for children 3 to 5 will be held every Thursday from 10 to 11:am.

Baby Story Time begins tomorrow (Wednesday) and continues every Wednesday at noon.

Meet the Stars of 'Shouting Secrets' at the Premiere in Globe

A premiere for the movie “Shouting Secrets” will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Hollis Cinemas.  The movie was filmed in Globe and San Carlos. The show starts at 6:30 each night. Several stars from the movie will be there.

You can also join them for a Premiere Party following the movie on Friday at the Old Train Depot from 9 pm to 11 pm. The location of the party on Saturday will be revealed after the movie.

 Tickets are available for pre-purchase.

Pre-Sale Ride and Gate Passes Available for Gila County Fair


Pre-Sale Carnival Ride tickets for the Gila County Fair are available at the Chamber of Commerce until next Wednesday, September 19.

All day tickets are $18. You choose which day you want to use your wristband for unlimited rides.

Pre-sale gate passes are also available for $10 a carload.

Chip Seal Work on US 70


A pavement maintenance project will be conducted on three miles of US 70 between San Carlos and Bylas. The work will take place from Monday, September 17 until sometime in early October. Chip seal will be applied to the roadway.

Work hours are 6:am to 4:pm Monday through Thursday. Pilot cars will guide traffic through the work zone in alternating directions.

Drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

Last night Globe Police arrested 21 year old Hillary Garcia for trying to steal a donation jar at the Drift In.

Officers are investigating a report of threats taken at a residence on Monroe and a theft at a residence on Main Street.

A Gila County Sheriff’s Deputy cited and released 41 year old William Self for threats and intimidation.

Deputies are investigating an assault at Las Lomas School; an assault at a residence in Alhambra Mobile Home Park; a burglary at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park; a burglary at a residence on Grover Canyon; and a disturbance at a business on Highway 60.

Miami Police arrested 28 year old Derrick Johnson after a fight at Live Oak and 4th Street. Johnson was arrested on a Coconino County warrant for aggravated DUI.

Ray Lewis passed away Sunday. He was 70.
Visitation for Ray Lewis is Saturday at 9:am in the Relief Society Room at the LDS Stake Center. The funeral is at 9:30.

Vanner Joseph Hegbloom passed away Friday at his home in Globe. He was 87. He is survived by his brother James; 12 children; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Vanner Hegbloom will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4:pm at the Globe VFW.
Memorial donations may be made to the Globe VFW.

Hardscrabble Series Resumes September 19


The first program of the season in the Miami Hardscrabble series will be presented next Wednesday, September 19 at the Billion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center. It starts at 6:30pm.

Gila County Historical Museum Director Donna Anderson will discuss research on the cemetaries in the area. She will also share stories about some of the searches she has made for people wanting to find their beginnings, and stories of some of the very early burial sites that are acattered all over the area.

The Hardscrabble presentations are held on the second Wednesday of every month. There is no admission charge and light refreshmants are served following the programs.

Globe Council Meets Tonight at 6:00


Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00,

The Council will proclaim the month of September to be Senior Center Month. They’ll consider an Intergovernmental Agreement with Gila County  for $2,800 for fuel and drivers for the transportation of seniors. And they’ll consider an Operations Agreement with Gila Aging Services.

The agenda also includes discussion and consideration of the San Carlos Apache Tribe CAP Lease Agreement and an amendment to a federal grant for the Broad Street Railroad Corridor.

Miami Council Meets Tonight at 6:30


Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30. They’ll consider a $218,000 contract for the construction of the Adonis Avenue Roadway Drainage Improvement Plan.

The Council will consider approving the use of Special Events Account money set aside for the Genesis committee for additional Miami Fiesta expenses that may be necessary.

Miami Police responded to a report of a gunshot on Ellwood Avenue. They arrested 44 year old Shawna Moon for recklessly discharging a deadly weapon.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 28 year old Terrill Brown on warrants for fraudulent schemes, shoplifting and disorderly conduct.

32 year old Lee Deiters was arrested on a child support warrant.

Saturday night an officer was dispatched to a residence on  Buena Vista after a report of suspicious activity. Two people were contacted and one of them assaulted the officer. Forty-three year old Lamberta May was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.

32 year old Victor Arrellin was arrested at a business on North Broad Street for domestic violence disorderly conduct.

47 year old Chris Benavidez was arrested at a residence on Pima Street for possession of drug paraphernalia

28 year old Keith Hopkins was arrested for shoplifting at the Hill Street Safeway.

45 year old Glen Edwards was arrested for shoplifting at a business on South Hill Street.

Officers are investigating a report of a missing juvenile; a burglary at a residence on Cuprite; a theft at a business on East Ash Street; vandalism at a residence on North Escudilla; vandalism at G Hill; and a fight on Friday night at a business on North Broad Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 54 year old Mark Courtney on Saturday for domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

31 year old Mariett Lewis was arrested on Friday for felony domestic violence/disorderly conduct at a residence on Euclid.

Deputies are investigating an assault that occurred in the Claypool area and a theft from a vehicle that was parked at the Shamrock Bar.
