Globe Hires New City Clerk and Finance Director

The Globe City Council has hired longtime city employee Shelly Salazar to serve as Globe’s next City Clerk.
Salazar currently serves as the Payroll Clerk. She replaces longtime City Clerk Gina Paul who retired in October.

Joseph Jarvis has been hired as Globe’s next Finance Director. Jarvis is a seventh generation Arizona resident who has served as a Budget/Management Analyst and Department Manager for organizations in Arizona and Florida.
He replaces longtime Finance Director Teresa Williams, who retires on November 8.


Globe Lions Club 'White Cane Drive' Saturday at Fry's

The Globe Lions Club will be at Fry’s tomorrow (Saturday) from 9:am to 5:pm for the annual White Cane Drive. Money collected will help people in the local area get needed eye exams and glasses.

If you have an old pair of eyeglasses that you no longer need, these are also being collected.


Police Log

Globe Police arrested 21 year old Brandon Miller for domestic violence/disorderly conduct after a disturbance on South Walliman Road. 21 year old Sara Brewer was also arrested. She had a DPS warrant for failure to appear on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

40 year old Dugan Polacca was arrested for public consumption on Mesquite Street.

Officers took reports of theft at a business on North Broad Street; a burglary at a residence on North Willow Street; and telephone harassment at a residence on North Main Street.

The Gila County Sheriiff’s Office arrested 36 year old Adrian Eylicio for domestic violence kidnap, aggravated assault with a weapon, felony endangerment, child abuse, and possession of a weapon during a felony offense.

25 year old Justin Durbin was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

54 year old David Hayes was arrested on a warrant for disorderly conduct.

Deputies took reports of  adult abuse taken at a residence on Wheatfields Road; burglary at a residence on Black Warrior; and harassing phone calls at a residence on Supai Road.

Obituary

Earlene June Denton of Globe passed away October 27 at Heritage Healthcare Center. She was 82. She is survived by 2 daughters, including Barbara Speer of Globe; 2 sons, including Clayton Ray Denton of Globe; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Earlene Denton is Saturday (November 2) at 12:30pm at the LDS Stake Center in Globe. The funeral follows at 1:00.
The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association in Tucson.


Story of the Escape of the Apache Kid to be Told at First Friday Program

The First Friday program at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum on November 1 features an intriguing piece of Gila County history.

Bullion Plaza Executive Director Tom Foster will tell the story of Gila County Sheriff Glenn Reynolds and the escape of the Apache Kid.

The presentation begins at 6:30pm. Light refreshments will be served after the program.


CVRMC Foundation Art/Wine Auction

The 6th Annual Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Art and Wine Auction starts  at 6:pm Friday (November 1) at the Gila County Fairgrounds.

The money raised from this event will be used for “education, training, equipment and services for Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center."

Our Lady's Fiesta 2013

Everyone is invited to Our Lady’s Fiesta 2013 on Sunday (November 3).

There will be great home made food, games for the kids, crafts and sweet booths, a silent gift basket auction, raffles and entertainment.

It’s from 9:am to 2:pm Sunday at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Miami.


Trick-or-Treating Tonight in Downtown Globe

Trick-or-Treating in downtown Globe begins today (Thursday) at 5:30pm and continues until 7:30 or until the candy runs out.

Halloween fun includes a block party, food,  and a costume contest with finalists announced at 7:00.

The Ghost-hunt tour of the historic jail will be from 7 to 9:pm.


Lt. Mike Johnson Appointed Undersheriff

Gila County Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd  has announced the appointment of Lieutenant Mike Johnson to the position of Undersheriff.

Lt. Johnson has been with the Gila County Sheriff’s Office since 1990. He has been a Detention Officer, Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, and Training Coordinator.

As Undersheriff,  Lt. Johnson will be responsible for the Field Services Bureau which includes Patrol, Dispatch, and Criminal Investigations for Gila County.


Miami Library Book Sale

The Miami Memorial Library is having a month long Fall/Winter Book Sale beginning Saturday (November 2).

The sale will take place from 9:am to 1:pm Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Like-new hardcover books will be sold for a dollar each, paperbacks for fifty cents.They will also have their popular “bag of books for a buck.”


Police Log

Yesterday Globe Police took a report of a theft at a business on Highway 60. They contacted 20 year old Hunter Garner and arrested her for the offense.

Officers are investigating another report of theft; a fraud report; illegal dumping in the area of Chaparral Estates; criminal damage at a business on Highway 60; and a report of telephone harassment taken at a residence on Cottonwood.


Obituary

Carol Ann Spradling passed away Monday at her home in Globe. She was 72.
A Memorial Service for Carol Spradling will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 11:am at Living Waters Community Church

Halloween Fun Night at Copper Mountain Inn

Copper Mountain Inn is having its Halloween Fun Night on Thursday (October 31) from 6 to 8:pm.

There will be a live band with prizes for the best dancers, plus trick or treating and games for the kids, hot dogs and cookies.

Teens and adults can enter the “Basement of Horrors” with donation of a can of food.


Police Log

There was a two vehicle collision about 5:30 this morning on Highway 60 near Walmart. The accident is under investigation.

Last night Globe Police arrested 43 year old Martin Cassadore for threats and intimidation at a business on Highway 60.

A burglary was reported at a residence on North Main Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a stolen vehicle at a residence on Grover Canyon and a runaway juvenile at a residence on Pineway.


Obituary

Lifetime Globe resident Bobby Murray passed away Saturday in Mesa. He was 87. He is survived by his family Keith Murray and Alice Traver; 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral for Bob Murray is Friday (November 1) at 10:am at Bulman Miles Funeral Services of Globe.


Scottsdale Man Arrested for Circle K Robbery

A Scottsdale man was arrested early Tuesday morning after robbing the Claypool Circle K.

The Circle K manager called  the Gila County Sheriff’s Office around 3:20am. The manager reported that while the employees were cleaning, a man walked by and said, “Hey, this is a stick up.” The two employees and a customer hid in the walk in cooler and called 911. While they were in the cooler, the man walked around the store filling his pockets with candy bars and a beer.

A Sheriff’s Deputy arrived while the robber was still in the store and took him into custody without incident. Officers from both the Globe and Miami Police Departments arrived a short time later and assisted with the investigation.

29 year old Joseph Bullis was booked into the Gila County Jail on charges of armed robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bullis is being held on $25,000 bond.

Obituary

Michael J. Guadiana  passed away October 10 at Heritage Health Care Center. He was 82. He is survived by his wife Jeanne; his son Michael; 3 daughters, including Rebecca Guadiana of Globe-Miami; and his step-daughter.
The funeral for Michael Guadiana is at 10:30am Saturday (November 2) at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church.

Globe Police arrested 25 year old Cherie Kozie yesterday for aggravated DUI after a two vehicle collision on East Ash Street.

24 year old Warren Tuffly and 25 year old Orlando Tuffly were arrested yesterday evening for shoplifting at a business on East Ash.

33 year old Justin Alaniz was arrested at a traffic stop on a failure to pay warrant for disorderly conduct.

Officers are investigating a report of telephone harassment; criminal damage at Globe Mobile Home Park; and a theft on Surmont Street.

Scottsdale Police arrested 38 year old William Nicholson of Wheatfields on a failure to comply warrant for aggressive driving.

Gila County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a burglary from an equipment storage unit; a theft on Russell Road; and a theft on Pinal View Drive.

Sylvia R. Flores passed away Saturday at her home in Globe. She was 80. She is survived by her son Michael Martinez; 2 sisters, including Lupe Zaragoza of Globe; 2 brothers, including Johnny Felix of Globe; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Rosary for Sylvia Flores will be at 9:30am on Friday, November 8 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:00.

Richard R. Lopez passed away Saturday at his home in Globe. He was 77. He is survived by his wife Cynthia.
A Memorial Service for Richard Lopez will be held Saturday (November 2) at Noon at Kingdom Hall in Globe.

Supervisors Meet Tuesday

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday at 10:am.

There will be a presentation about the Arizona Department of Transportation Public Affairs Stakeholder Outreach and the introduction of new District Engineer Jesse Gutierrez.

Another presentation will be about the Gila County Transportation-Study Plan for Improvements and Financing Alternatives.

The Supervisors will discuss extending the ½ cent Transportation Excise tax for another 20 years.


Two Local Men Plead Guilty to Stealing Copper from BHP

Two local men have pleaded guilty to charges of stealing copper from the BHP mine. They were caught in the act by Miami Police Lieutenant Spencer Preston during the early morning hours of May 9.

Thirty-two year old Michael Woods will be sentenced today (October 28). He faces a mandatory sentence of three years in the Arizona Department of Corrections followed by a term of supervised probation.

Twenty-five year old Anthony Stewart had only been released from prison for one week when this incident occurred. He will be sentenced on November 2.  Stewart  faces a mandatory sentence of 4.5 years in the Department of Corrections.


Globe PD Looking for Persons of Interest in Safeway Drive-By Shooting

The Globe Police Department is looking for two persons of interest in connection with the drive-by shooting at the Safeway parking lot on October 14.

Nobody was hurt in a single vehicle accident yesterday evening on East Ash.

Globe Police arrested 30 year old Brandon Benton late last night for DUI.

43 year old Martin Cassadore was arrested for obstructing a roadway.

A juvenile was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

47 year old Orien Newman was arrested Saturday morning at a business on Seventh Street for disorderly conduct and trespassing.

26 year old Cortney Stevens was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

37 year old Jason Scheibe was arrested for false reporting to law enforcement.

Officers are investigating  an assault report; a theft report;  burglaries on Verde Lane and Monroe Street; criminal damage at a residence on Turnbull Turn; attempted theft on East Main Street; and vandalism at Copper Country Mobile Home Park.

Miami Police arrested 26 year old Joseph Hunnicutt for possession of a narcotic and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s office arrested 33 year old Joshua Ensworth for assault and possession of drug paraphernalia.

29 year old Amber Carroll was arrested for false reporting to law enforcement.

On Friday the Gila County Task Force arrested  56 year old Wayne Moyer of Tucson and 39 year old Davares Hill of Vail for misconduct involving a weapon during a drug offense and possession of marijuana for sale. Moyer was also charged with possession of dangerous drugs.

Deputies are investigating  a report of child abuse taken at a residence on Calle De Loma; a stolen vehicle from a residence Azurite Drive; thefts at the Cemex plant and residences on Calle De Loma and Hope Lane; criminal damage at a residence on Golden Hill; and harassment reported at the Spring Creek Store.

Mary M. Beard of Globe passed away October 23. She was 88. She is survived by 4 children, including Jean Gourdin of Globe and Wanda Boutwell of Claypool; 2 sisters; 2 brothers; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
The funeral for Mary Beard is today (Monday) at 11:am at Bulman-Miles Globe Chapel


Miami Council Meets Tonight at 6:30

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

The Council will approve a Professional Services Contract  with EUSI, LLC to manage and operate Miami’s wastewater treatment plant.

They will go into Executive Session to discuss Intergovernmental Agreements with the City of Globe and Gila County relating to municipal court services.
