Globe Council Meets Monday


Globe City Council meets Monday at 6:pm.

Presentations include the introduction of new Police Dispatcher Wayne Sukosky and the Globe High School Teen Liberty Youth Coalition. There will also be a presentation about the “Go Wild” Eco Tourism  Program.

The Council will  consider a Resolution to comply with the State Legislature’s consolidation of regular candidate elections.This would include temporarily shortening or lengthening Council Term Limits.

The Council will also consider calling an Alternative Expenditure Limitation Election.
  

Police Log


There was a single vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Six Shooter Canyon Road involving a truck with a boat in tow.

Last night Globe Police arrested 32 year old Karl Lopez for criminal damage at a business on Highway 60. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office also charged Lopez with assault, domestic violence and disorderly conduct in connection with a report taken on March 12.

Globe Police arrested 40 year old Renea Baca for assault at a business on Highway 60.

33 year old Joshua Ensworth was arrested for disorderly conduct at a business on Highway 60.

Officers are investigating a disturbance  that occurred yesterday morning at Oak and Pine Streets; criminal damage on Pinal Street; and criminal damage in the area of East Ash Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Trunion Hughes for domestic violence/disorderly conduct and assault after a disturbance on New Street.

Deputies are investigating a fraud report taken at a residence on Remington.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Richard Marin of Globe on a failure to appear warrant for possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Mesa Police arrested 24 year old Maryan Jones of Globe on a contempt of court warrant for DUI.

Obituary


Myron Bruce Adkins passed away Tuesday at his home in Roosevelt. He was 86. He is survived by his wife Charlaine; 3 sons; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Myron Adkins will be held Thursday (March 21) at 11:am at Roosevelt Baptist Church. A reception luncheon will be held following the service.

March for Babies This Saturday


This year’s March for Babies event takes place on Saturday, starting at the Bullion Plaza Park. Breakfast is at 7:am and the walk starts at 8.

More than 150 individuals and teams are expected to attend with families, neighbors and friends.

March for Babies is the main fundraiser each year to support the March of Dimes mission of improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Globe Library Family Craft Time


Globe Public Library is having a free St. Patrick’s Day family craft time on Friday at 2:pm.

American Legion Hosts St. Patrick's Day Dinner


The American Legion will host a St. Patrick’s Day dinner on Sunday from 5 to 7:pm at the American Legion Post.

The cost is $7 a plate.

Cobre Valley Republican Club Meets Saturday


The Cobre Valley Republican Club meets Saturday at 9:30am at the Globe  headquarters on N. Broad Street.

They will discuss upcoming events in Globe and information about County activities.

Police Log


Local agencies put out an electrical fire shortly after midnight on Tuesday at a residence on Roberts Road.

Globe Police took a report of a rear end collision late yesterday morning at the intersection of Broad and Ash.

A delayed hit and run report was taken yesterday afternoon at a business on Highway 60.

Nobody was hurt in an accident yesterday afternoon on Broad Street.

Officers are investigating a possible burglary at a residence on Pinal Street and criminal damage at a residence on Escudilla.

Miami Police arrested 20 year old Nathan Harper for aggravated assault.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office served 21 year old inmate Alan Davolt a probation violation warrant for possession of marijuana, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a narcotic drug.

A deputy took a report of a vehicle taken from a residence in Six Shooter Canyon Tuesday night. The car was driven and then returned damaged before the owner realized it was gone.  The incident is under investigation.

A deputy took a report of an assault at the Juvenile Detention Center.

Obituaries


Benjamin F. Cochran of Globe passed away Tuesday at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. He was 88. He is survived by 2 daughters, including Janet Thompson of Globe; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A graveside service for Benjamin Cochran will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 10:am at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa.

Dustin Mann of Miami passed away Monday. He was 29.He is survived by his mother Lisa Johnson; his father Jess Mann; his grandfather Al Mann; his grandmother Judi Mann; and his sister Lindsey Johnson.
A Memorial Service for Dustin Mann will be held Saturday at 11:am in the Miami High School auditorium.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Southern Gila County 4-H Leaders Council, P.O. Box 2612, Globe 85502.

Globe Arrests Linked to Multiple Burglaries


The Globe Police Department has issued a press release about several people who have been taken into custody in connection with various burglaries in the local area.

On Sunday, officers apprehended 31 year old Kenneth Wallen after a burglary from an automobile at the Globe School District bus barn.

Officers followed up by visiting the residence where Wallen was believed  to live.  There they contacted other persons of interest related to other burglaries, including two burglaries at the VFW. Also in plain view were items believed to be connected with a theft of copper. The copper turned out to have been stolen from a copper sheeted roof on South Hill Street.

After getting a search warrant, items were discovered that linked the residents to other burglaries and  theft of copper. This led to the arrest of 44 year old Sean Ahern and 31 year old David Colyott for their involvement in multiple burglaries in the area.

Globe Police are following additional leads and other details of the investigation cannot be relaesed at this time.

Globe Water Department Will Work on Main Line Thursday


The City of Globe Water Department will do the work on Thursday that had originally been scheduled for Tuesday. They will install a valve on the main water line.

Customers at higher elevations near town may experience low water pressure or possibly no water between the hours of 8:am and 3:pm.

Globe Judge Reprimanded


The Globe-Miami Arizona Eagle online newspaper reports that Globe Justice of the Peace Gary Goetteman has been reprimanded by the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct for a comment he made at a staff meeting of court employees, and for other behavior he has exhibited while on the job.

The Eagle reports that on February 27, the Commission reprimanded Judge Goetteman for his conduct and ordered that the record of the proceedings be made public.

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a hit and run collision yesterday shortly after noon on East Ash Street. A report was taken and the case is pending investigation.

No injuries were reported in an accident yesterday afternoon on Highway 60.

Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted  an off-road vehicle that was stuck  in swift water near Cherry Creek Road. All of the occupants made it safely to shore and the car was removed from the water.

31 year old Samantha Kovach was arrested on a probation violation warrant for  burglary and forgery.

Deputies are investigating criminal damage to a fence at a business on South Street; a burglary at a residence on Cypress; and a report of illegal dumping in the area of Copper Hills Road.

Globe Police are investigating a theft from a vehicle on South Fegan Street and a theft at a business on Willow.

Obituary


Peggy Elgo of San Carlos passed away March 6 at San Carlos Indian Hospital. She was 47. She is survived by her daughter Shelmarie Mull; her son Samuel Mull; her parents Melvin and Imogine Elgo; her brothers Levi Elgo and Melvin Elgo, Jr.; and 4 grandchidlren.
The wake for Peggy Elgo is today (Wednsday) at 4:pm at the Joann Goseyun residence. The funeral is tomrorow (Thursday) at World Evangelism Revival Church.

Work on Water Line Moved to Thursday


The City of Globe Water Department says that the work on the  main water line that had been scheduled for today (Tuesday) has been rescheduled for Thursday (March 14).

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on 11th Street. One driver was cited for unsafe backing.

No injuries  were reported in an accident yesterday evening on Will Street. The case is pending further investigation.

Globe Police charged a 41 year old Yuma man with disorderly conduct after a disturbance at a business on Hagen.

44 year old inmate Sean Ahern received additional charges of burglary and theft yesterday in connection with reports taken on January 30 and February 10.

Officers are investigating a delayed theft report taken at a business on High Street and  criminal damage at the Globe Skate Park.

Gila Wrestling Club Registration


Gila Wrestling Club registration for the 2013 USA Freestyle Wrestling season  begins Tuesday  at Harbison Field. 

Registration will  continue on Thursday and  on Monday, March 18.

Registration times are 4:30 to 6:pm.

Gila County Fair Committee Meets Tuesday


The Gila County Fair Committee meets Tuesday at 6:pm. The meeting will be at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce.

This month’s topic is Advertising and PR.

AARP Safe Driver Course


The AARP Safe Driver Training will be given Tuesday from 12:30 to 4:30pm at the Globe Active Adult Center. 

The course is designed to update driver safety knowledge and to provide strategies to drive crash free. It may save you money on your car insurance.

The training is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. To register call 425-9030.

Miami Police arrested 53 year old Gracie Cervantes for disorderly conduct/domestic violence and assault.

38 year old David Garcia was arrested for disorderly conduct/domestic violence.

31 year old Alan Davolt was arrested for possession of marijuana, theft and misconduct involving weapons.

Globe Police arrested four people yesterday afternoon after responding to a call about a theft at a business on Willow. 44 year old Sean Ahern was charged with trafficking in stolen property, aggravated criminal damage and burglary. 31 year old David Colyott was charged with aggravated criminal damage and burglary; 31 year old Kenneth Wallen was charged with burglary. And 26 year old Misty Courtney was arrested for possession of marijuana.

47 year old Joseph Root was arrested yesterday afternoon for trespassing at a business on Hill Street.

Officers are investigating shoplifting at a business on Highway 60 and shoplifting at a business on Hill Street.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 66 year old William Cole for assault.

On Saturday 41 year old Brian Steele was arrested for driving with a suspemded license, speeding and 2 DPS warrants.

On Friday deputies arrested 58 year old Doloris Placencio for disorderly conduct and domestic violence after a disturbance at a residence on Supai.

Deputies are investigating a burglary at the Gila County Animal Shelter.

Miami Council Meetings Tonight


Tonight (Monday) the Miami Town Council will have a Joint Work Session and then a Joint Meeting with the Town of Miami Municipal Property Corporation. It starts at 6:00. This will be followed by a Regular Meeting of the Miami Town Council.

They will consider authorizing a $958,000 debt to help pay for acquiring and constructing  a wastewater collection facility. They will also consider authorizing the negotiation of a US government note for financing the project.

The Regular Meeting includes approval of the design for the Town of Miami entry sign.

Obituaries


Former Miami resident Frank Romo Chavez has passed away. He was 95. He is survived by 4 children; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
Visitation for Frank Chavez is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9:30am at Our  Lady of the Blessed Sacramnent Church. Rosary is at 10:00 and Mass is at 10:30.

Robert J. Toot passed away March 7 at his home in Globe. He was 74. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his son; 2 daughters; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for “Bob” Toot will be held Friday at 11:am at Trinity Baptist Church.

Rebecca Grace Preston of Peridot passed away March 5 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. She was 44. She is survived by her husband Ramus; her daughter; her brother; and 3 sisters.
The wake for Rebecca Preston is Friday at 4:pm at the Preston residence. The funeral is Saturday at 2:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.



Globe Council Meets Tonight


Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

The meeting includes a presentation by Arizona Reservation Ministries and a presentation about the Senior Community Education Program.

The Council will consider a Retired Senior Volunteer Program Memo of Understanding with the Globe Active Adult Center.

The agenda includes a Resolution supporting the Land Exchange and Conservation Act.

The Council will also consider agreements with the Globe School District, the Copper Cities Youth League, and Destiny Schools to use the City ball fields.
