Gila County Health Department Extends Child Vaccination Hours


The Gila  County Health Department is extending hours for child vaccinations starting today (January 11). Hours have been extended to 7:pm.

Sheriff's Reserve Posse Sweetheart Dance February 5


The Gila County Sheriff’s Reserve Posse Sweetheart Dance will be on Saturday, February 9 at the Gila County Fairgrounds.

Happy Hour is from 6 to 7.  Bar-B-Que on a bun with beans will be served starting at 7:00. The dance is from 8 to Midnight with music by Sunset Highway.

Tickets are $25 a couple and $15.00 for singles. Tickets are available at Bacon’s Boots and Saddles, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, from Posse members or at the door.

Police Log


Globe Police arrested 64 year old Richard Armijo  for DUI yesterday afternoon after a two vehicle collision at the Highway 60 and 188 junction.

Officers were dispatched to South Jess Hayes Road in response to a report of  an assault. After an investigation, 23 year old Randy Carnes was arrested for a hoax.

Officers are investigating a domestic incident on Yucca Drive; a burglary at a residence in Ruiz Canyon; and a report of a juvenile with marijuana at High Desert Middle School.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating criminal damage at a residence in Pinto Creek Mobile Home Park.

Alice M. Demichelis  passed away Thursday. She was 87.

Minnie Ordorica passed away Wednesday. She was 78.

Ann Kirkpatrick in Superior on Friday


First District Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick will be in Superior tomorrow (Friday). She will visit the Superior mine and meet with mine employees and leaders Then she will have a meet-and-greet event in Superior that is open to the public.

The meet-and-greet is at Porter’s CafĂ© on West Main Street from 4:30 to 5:30pm.

Cold Wave Warning


The Gila County Emergency Management Division has issued a cold wave warning.

A strong and dry cold front is expected to move into Gila County this (Thursday) afternoon. It is expected to remain through the weekend into early next week. Strong winds with blowing dust are possible this afternoon.

Very cold temperatures with the strong possibility of a freeze or even a hard freeze  are expected from Saturday morning through Tuesday morning.

The Emergency Management Division reminds you to be prepared to survive winter conditions for 3 to 5 days. Citizens are encouraged to stock basic supplies such as food, water, extra clothing and blankets. 

Make sure your home has sufficient heating fuel and keep your car’s gas tank at least half full. Have enough prescriptions on hand for 5-7 days. 

Before traveling, check statewide road conditions by dialing 5-1-1.

Shooting Under Investigation


The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that took place yesterday (Wednesday) at Sun Rise Mobile Home Park. The case is pending further investigation.

Nobody was hurt in an accident just before noon yesterday in the area of Sixth Street and Ash Street. One driver was cited and released.

Globe Police arrested 49 year old Joseph Jayne for shoplifting in connection with a report taken yesterday
.
41 year old Kenneth Brown was arrested for shoplifting in connection with an incident that occurred on December 6.

Nominations Being Accepted for Citizen of the Year


The Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce is accepting nomination letters for the 2012 Citizen of the Year. The winner will be decided by a panel of Chamber Board Members and former Citizen of the Year Honorees.

Nominees should show a record of strong community service in a variety of areas.

Your nomination letter may be dropped off at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce office or sent to director@globemiamichamber.org .

The Gila  County Sheriff’s Office arrested 70 year old Lottie Anderson yesterday morning at a residence on McKinney for vulnerable adult abuse and domestic violence.

49 year old Eberto Hernandez was arrested at the Claypool Circle K for disorderly conduct and domestic violence.

Globe Police arrested 24 year old Jesse Flores on a contempt of court warrant for driving with a suspended license.

41 year old Michael James was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Obituary


Gary P. Wolf of Globe passed away January 5 at Heritage Healthcare Center. He was 64. He is survived by his wife Georgia; 3 step children; his brother; and 2 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Gary Wolf will be held Friday at 3:pm at Lamont Mortuary.

Alzheimer's Support Group Meets Wednesday


The Alzheimer’s Support group meets Wednesday at 1:pm at the Globe Active Adult Center.

GCC Classes Begin Wednesday at GAAC


Gila Community College classes begin Wednesday. Seniors who register at the college and take a class at Globe Active Adult Center can take additional classes up to 6 hours for free.

Classes at the Globe Active Adult Center include Quilting, Ceramics, Crafts and Strength & Flexibility.

The Globe School Board meets Wednesday at 6:pm in the High Desert Middle School auditorium.

The Governing Board will nominate and elect Board Officers for 2013.

Homes and Volunteers Needed for Home and Building Tour


Organizers of the annual Globe Historic Home and Building Tour are looking for volunteers, and for homes to be included in the tour.

Homes built before 1950 and homes that are unique  because of their architecture may be included in the tour which is scheduled for March 9 and 10. They will need details about the history and heritage of your home. You can be the host at your house during the tour or you can allow volunteers to do the job.

Van drivers, ticket sellers and host home helpers are also needed.

Area Newspaper History to Be Discussed at Hardscrabble Presentation


The next lecture in the Miami Hardscrabble series is  Wednesday, January 16 at the Bullion Plaza Museum in Miami.

Donna Anderson will talk about the museum’s new display, the original Linotype machine purchased by the Arizona Silver Belt in the mid-1930’s.

The discussion will include the history of the two major newspapers in the area through the years, the Arizona Silver Belt and the Arizona Record. She will also talk about  why the purchase of a Linotype was a major development in newspaper history around the world.

The Hardscrabble and First Friday series of historical presentations are free.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident Saturday afternoon at Cedar and Broad Street. One driver was cited.

19 year old Filaree Otis was arrested for DUI at a traffic stop late Saturday night

Officers are investigating a theft report taken at a residence on Collins.

Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call Saturday evening about an incorrigible juvenile at a residence on Washburn. The juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

21 year old Marcus Ortiz of Mesa was arrested Friday night for domestic violence/assault in connection with a disturbance at the Apache Gold Casino.

Deputies are investigating a burglary at a residence on Highway 60.

Former Miami resident Esther Lomeli Chavez passed away January 3 at Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center in Phoenix. She was 93. She is survived by her husband Frank; 4 children; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Esther Chavez is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Man Shoots Himself at CVRMC

OB Friday January 4,2013 at approximately 5:07 P.M. the Globe Police Department received a 911 call from Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Staff of a man who entered the emergency room lobby and was shooting a weapon. Officers from Globe Police Department, Department of Public Safety and Deputies from the Gila County Sheriffs Office responded to the location. Officers and Deputies arrived and completed a security sweep of the hospital.
Upon entering the emergency room they saw medical staff providing aide to a male subject It was learned that this male subject had entered the emergency room lobby holding a gun and removed a bench seat from the lobby to just outside the main entrance of the emergency room. The male subject then
caused a self inflicted gunshot wound to himself that was fatal. There were no patients, staff or citizens injured.
