Jane Eck Memorial Park Dedication on Friday

The City of Globe will hold a dedication ceremony tomorrow (Friday) at 10:am at the Globe Active Adult Center.

The park at the Center will be dedicated as the Jane Eck Memorial Park.


Attempted Child Abduction

There was an attempted child abduction Tuesday morning at the bus stop on the corner of Ice House Canyon and Aneas.

The 14 year old girl was able to give a description of the suspect and the vehicle. The vehicle was a tan SUV similar to a Suburban or Tahoe, The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion, possibly in his late thirties or early forties.

Republican Club Meets Saturday

The Cobre Valley Republican Club will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday morning (April 19) at 9:30.

The meeting will be at the club headquarters on North Broad Street.

Easter Sunrise Service

The Gila County Ministerial Association will present an Easter Sunrise Service for the Globe-Miami community.

The service starts at 6:30am at the Dream Manor Inn. It will be followed by a free buffet breakfast.

A freewill offering will be taken during the service. All of the proceeds will go to help the needy in this area.

Globe's Easter Parade is Saturday

The annual Easter Parade in downtown Globe begins Saturday (April 19) at 9:30am at the historic train depot.

The “Easter Parade” is based on the classic holiday song and movie. Dress up for the event and you may be chosen for one of the best entries in four categories.

There are no entry fees and the event will take place rain or shine.

Robert Joeseph Deiters of Globe passed away April 10 at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa. He was 60.
A Memorial Service for Robert Deiters will be held Saturday, May 3 at 1:pm at Lamont Mortuary.

Colonel John Caceletto passed away April 11. He was 96. Colonel Caceletto was born in Globe and began his teaching career in Globe in the early 1940’s.
Interment is Friday (April 18) at 9:30am at National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.

Lifetime Globe-Miami resident Ramona Alvarado passed away April 13 at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa. She was 73.
Visitation for Ramona Alvarado is Saturday (April 19) from 1 to 4:pm at Lamont Mortuary.

Lifetime Miami resident Maria Emilia Maeda passed away April 10 at Copper Mountain Inn. She was 87.
Visitation for Maria Maeda will be held Monday (April 21) at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Jesse Lloyd Jones passed away April 14 at his home in Globe. He was 85.
Visitation for Jesse Jones is Tuesday (April 22) at 9:am at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Virginia Castillo of Globe passed away April 12 at Desert Blossom Health and Rehab Center in Mesa. She was 97.
Visitation for Virginia Castillo is Wednesday (April 23) at 10:am at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Rosary is at 10:30 and Mass is at 11:00.

Globe Community Center Pool Will Not Be Open This Summer

The City of Globe has announced that it will not be able to open the Community Center Pool this summer because of structural problems.

The City says it will be pursuing partners and funding sources to resolve the pool issues.

Police Log

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 32 year old Adrienne Licano for aggravated assault at a residence on West Hackney Avenue.

41 year old David Kast of Mesa was arrested for shoplifting last night at a business on Hill Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Jonathan Poeling for aggravated DUI.

Obituary

Lifetime Globe-Miami resident Ramona Alverado passed away April 13 at Mountain View Hospital in Mesa. She was 73.

A Memorial  for Ramona Alverado will be held Saturday from 1 to 4:pm at Lamont Mortuary.

Globe School Board Meets Wednesday

The Globe School Board meets Wednesday at 6:pm in the High Desert Middle School Auditorium.

The meeting will include presentations about the Globe High School Tigerobitics Club and the Globe High School Cheer Stunt Team.


ADOT Reopens Roads in the White Mountains

On Wednesday (April 16) the Arizona Department of Transportation will reopen several roads in the White Mountains that have been closed for the winter.

The roads are: State Route 261 between Eager and Big Lake; State Route 273 between Sunrise Park and Big Lake; and State Route 473 between Route 260 and Hawley Lake.


'More Kids in the Woods' Science Camps Offered Again This Summer

Gila Community College and the US Forest Service are again offering the popular “More Kids in the Woods” science camps  this summer.

There will be four camps split by grade level. The program is designed to help students in grades K-12 create an awareness of the environment and to become more actively engaged in their education.

A funeral Mass will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10:am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Scottsdale.

Maria Emilia Maeda passed away April 10. She was 87. Funeral arrangements are pending with Bulman Miles Funeral Services in Globe.

Supervisors Meet Tuesday

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday at 10:am.

The agenda includes an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Arizona Department of Transportation to construct a bridge on Ewing Trail over Oak Creek in the Tonto Basin area.

The Supervisors will accept the Final Report of the Gila County Transportation Study and consider a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates to provide outreach services to inform the public about the importance of the Study.



Hardscrabble Series Presents More About 'The Clanton Family'

The Miami Hardscrabble lecture series presentation this Wednesday (April 16) features Jane Hale continuing the story of  “The Clanton Family.”

Much has been  told and written about the Bohme -Clanton ranching families, and here is a chance to get the “real story” from a descendant of the families.

The program is free and starts at 6:30pm on Wednesday (April 16) at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum.


Landfill Will Accept Greenwaste This Saturday

The Russell Gulch Landfill will accept greenwaste at no charge this Saturday (April 19) in honor of Earth Day.

Greenwaste includes tree limbs, brush, grass clippings and leaves.


Miami Council Meets Tonight

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

The Council will consider  requesting an all-mail ballot and unified ballot for the upcoming and future elections; a permanent adjustment to the Base Expenditure Limitation; approval for the Miami Arts Commission to use Miami Veterans Memorial Park for the Miami Art Walk; two Miami entry signs honoring Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Manuel Mendoza; and discontinuing the practice of leasing or renting the tables and chairs at Miami Veterans Memorial Park.

Last night Globe Police arrested 39 year old Timothy Fritz for aggravated DUI and a warrant for criminal damage.

29 year old Amber Hayes was arrested on a child support warrant.

Saturday night 55 year old Beatrice Martinez was arrested for DUI.

33 year old Katherine Shorten was arrested at a business on South Hill Street for false reporting to law enforcement and a warrant for shoplifting.

28 year old Valerie Herman was arrested late Friday night for extreme DUI.

The Greenleee County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39 year old Michelle Samuels of Globe on a warrant for furnishing harmful items to minors.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19 year old Christopher McInturff on Friday for aggravated criminal damage.

39 year old William Nicholson was arrested on a warrant for reckless driving and driving with a suspended license, use of marijuana, and use of a dangerous drug.


Obituary

Leroy Patten of San Carlos passed away April 8 at Banner Good Samaritan Center in Phoenix. He was 71.
The wake for Leroy Patten is today (Monday) at 4:pm at the Shillia Patten residence. The funeral is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1:pm at Burdette Hall.
