ADOT to Resurface US 60 North of Globe August 6


The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a pavement improvement project  on US 60 beginning Monday, August 6. ADOT will resurface four miles of US 60 from the 60/70 junction to the Gila County Fairgrounds.

The $431,000 project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August. It involves the placement of a microseal surface on the roadway. A microseal is a mixture of asphalt, water and small rock that preserves and extends the life of the pavement.

Pilot cars will guide vehicles through the work zone in alternating directions. Work hours are 6:am to 7:pm Monday through Friday.

Drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

New Lighting at Miami Pool


The Miami Hostetler Pool now has new lighting, thanks to Freeport McMoRan and other donors.

The pool is now  open Friday and Saturday nights until 9:pm.

Monday through Thursday pool hours are 10:am until 5:pm through August 5. The pool will be open through Labor Day on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:am until 9:pm, and Sundays from 11 to 5.

Monthly Hamburger Fry


The Gila County Historical Museum is holding their monthly hamburger fry today (Friday) on the museum grounds starting at 5:30pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy a hamburger, chips, beans, desserts and a drink for $7.

The Bustle and Boots Square Dance group will perform.

There were no injuries in a single motorcycle accident late last night near the Express Stop parking lot.

Miami Police arrested 55 year old Rudy Sanchez for harassment and violating a court order.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Malorie Tucker for promoting prison contraband.

30 year old Chuck Minchew was arrested on a child support warrant.

Jeanne Uhl Memorial Golf Tournament September 8


The 10th Annual Jeanne Uhl Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournamnet will be held on Saturday, September 8 at the Cobre Valley Country Club.

The cost is $35 for members and $40 for non-members.

Free Business Workshops


Three free business workshops will be held in Globe during the month of August. They include one-on-one business counseling. The classes are about starting a business, marketing your business and the best ways to use social media.

The first class is on Wednesday, August 8. It is “How to Start Your Own Business” and starts at 6:pm.

The classes will be held at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Political Sign Tampering a Class 2 Misdemeanor


The Gila County Elections Department is once again hearing about political sign tampering.

Elections Director Linda Eastlick reminds everyone that it is a Class 2 Misdemeanor  to remove, alter, deface or cover any political sign of any candidate for public office. This also applies to political mailers, handouts, flyers or other printed materials that are delivered to a resident.

This statute applies from 45 days before the Primary Election until 7 days after the General Election.

Last night Globe Police arrested 31 year old John Murphy for domestic violence assault after a disturbance on North Escudilla Street.

Officers are investigating criminal damage to three vehicles at a business on South Broad Street and criminal damage at the intersection of Highway 60 and Main Street.

Miami Police arrested 40 year old Nikki Hernandez on a failure to appear warrant for driving with a suspended license.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38 year old Lemuel Dillon on a failure to comply warrant for DUI.

24 year old inmate Leonetta Newman was served a failure to appear warrant for driving with a suspended licesnse.

Redlex Ends Friday at Midnight


Good news for drivers through the City of Globe: Globe Mayor Terry Wheeler tells KIKO that the Redflex traffic enforcement cameras will be turned off at midnight on Friday.

Fire Restrictions Lifted on Tonto National Forest

Fire restrictions have been lifted on the Tonto National Forest.

The retstrictions are no longer needed because fire danger has been reduced by increased moisture and humidity from the annual monsoon weather.

The fire restrictions are separate from the prohibition of fireworks at all times in all National Forests.

The use of of tracer bullets and incendiary ammo is also banned at all times on all National Forests. This is because there has been an increasing number of fire starts attributed to target or recreational shooting.

Globe School Board Meets Tonight


The Globe School Board meets tonight (Wednesday) in the High Desert Middle School Auditorium.

They’ll consider Intergovernmental Agreements with Gila Community College about the delivery of college-level credit classes  and the use of the Globe Junior High School building for the Wellness Center.

Miami Fiesta Sub Committee Meets Thursday


The Town of Miami Fiesta Sub Committee meets Thursday at 6:pm. 

They’ll discuss the entertainment for the Fiesta event, advertising, the progress of vendor applications and the Chihuahua Races.

Benefit Art Auction


A Benefit Art Auction to raise money for the Pinal Mountain Foundation for Higher Education scholarship program will be held on Thursday, August 9.

The event will be held at the Dream Manor Inn. No host cocktails start at 5:pm, the dinner starts at 6. The auction follows the dinner.

'A Better Website' Workshop


Globe-Miami business owners are invited to a workshop called “A Better Website” on Wednesday, August 1 from 9 to 11:am.

You’ll learn ways to improve your website and how to “get found on the Internet.”

The workshop is free and is presented by Local First Arizona.  It will be held at the Freeport-McMoRan Training Center on US 60 in Globe.

Chambers Elected State Bar 2nd VP


Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores announces that Chief Deputy County Attorney Bryan Chambers was elected 2nd Vice President of the State Bar of Arizona at their annual meeting last month in Phoenix.

Chambers has served on the Board of Governors of the State Bar since 2004 when he was first elected by the lawyers of Gila, Graham and Greenlee Counties to represent them at the Bar. He is the first attorney from Gila County to be elected an officer of the Bar in at least 40 years

Miami Police are investigating a hit and run accident involving a 6 year old child. The child was riding her bicycle across the street from Miami Fast Stop. The injuries are minor. The vehicle was described as a white Chevrolet with a white female driver. If you have any information about this incident please call the Miami Police Department at 473-2466.

Globe Police arrested 49 year old Debra Falquez for shoplifting at Beall’s Outlet.

25 year old Alphonzo Mann of Phoenix was arrested for disorderly conduct at a business on East Ash.

Officers are investigating a report of threats taken at a business on East South Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft report taken at a resdence on Morrow and criminal damage at the juvenile detention center.

Local Connection to USA Archery Team

The 2012 Olympics in London begin on Friday, July 27. Family members in Globe, Payson and Roosevelt will be following 23 year old Brady Ellison as he competes with the USA Archery Team.

Brady is currently ranked number one in the world. Last year Brady won 35 of the 37 world ranking events he entered. This includes  three World Cup events, the World Cup Final and the Olympic test event.

Democratic Rally on August 4


Everyone is invited to an evening of family fun at a Democratic Rally on Saturday, August 4.

The evening includes free food, free swimming, a watermelon eating contest and music by the Miami Big Band Sound.

Democratic candidates from across the state will auction off their favorite homemade pies and cakes.
It’s from 4 to 6:pm on August 4 at the Cobre Valley Country Club.

Miami Council Meets Tonight at 6:30


Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

They’ll consider a contract for instaling a security fence at the Miami Transit Yard.

They will possibly direct the mayor to appoint two members to the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System Board.

The Council will go into Executive Session to discuss litigation with the Tri City Fire District.

Globe Council Meets Tonight at 6:00


Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

The agenda includes the property tax levy for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

The Council will also consider Intergovernmental Agreements with Gila Community College about fire instruction and Globe Active Adult Center classes.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 24 year old Roxanne Becker for domestic violence/disorderly conduct and assault after a disturbance at a residence on Escudilla Drive.

44 year old Michael Garrett was arrested for disorderly conduct at a business on Highway 60.

23 year old Jacob Hickman was arrested for domestic violence/criminal damage late last night at a residence on Buena Vista.

50 year old Shirley Hinton was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Saturday night Globe Police arrested 57 year old Lucy Tarango for assault/domestic violence after a disturbance on Hackney Hill.

22 year old Shanissa Romero was arrested late Saturday night for assault/domestic violence.

42 year old Shiela Pollard was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for criminal trespass.

28 year old Cole Lafavor was arrested for assault Friday night  at a business on Baseline Spur.

34 year old Jennifer Alonzo was arrested for shoplifting at the Dollar Tree.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a business on North Broad Street; criminal damage at a business on Mesquite Street; and shoplifting at Walmart.

Miami Police arrested 28 year old Noemi Garcia on a failure to appear warrant for theft.

Miami officers stopped a vehicle after several other motorists and law enforcement agencies reported an erratic driver waving a gun. The gun was taken from the driver and the case is pending further investigation.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 44 year old Glen Edwards on Saturday for theft of means of transportation.

55 year old Gerald Hall was arrested for failure to appear on charges of failure to register as a sex offender.

36 year old Erich Baughman was arrested Friday for disorderly conduct and domestic violence.

34 year old Marvin Hockaday was arrested on a Pinal County warrant for disorderly conduct.

Friday night a deputy responded to the area of Old Oak and Railroad for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the bushes. The car had been reported stoleen earlier in the day at the Shamrock Bar. The case is under investigation.

Deputies are investigating a criminal damage report in the area of Fry’s and a report of stolen property taken in the area of of Central.

Gilbert Police arrested 26 year old Justin Garcia of Miami on a failure to appear warrant for possesion of drug paraphernalia.

The Department of Public Safety in Tucson arrested 30 year old Ramona Miller of Bylas on a failure to appear warrant for hindering prosecution.

DPS in Falgstaff arrested 24 year old Leonetta Newman of Peridot on a failure to comply warrant for a drug paraphernalia violation.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Kristen Lofgreen of Claypool on a failure to pay warrant for disorderly conduct.
