Police Log


Miami Police arrested a juvenile who was trying to break in to a residence on Canyon Avenue. He was referred to juvenile authorities.

Globe Police arrested a juvenile at Globe High School for criminal damage and underage consumption.

42 year old Kyle Cook was arrested for trespassing at the Santee Circle K.

29 year old Erik Gonzales was arrested on a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Officers are investigating a burglary at a residence on North Hill Street and a harassment report taken at a residence on Sutherland.

The Gila County Sheriff’s office is investigating a report of a runaway juvenile taken at a residence on Hazen Road; a burglary at a residence on Scott Avenue; and criminal damage to a vehicle on Broadway.

Obituary


Connie Elizabeth Brooks of Miami passed away Monday at Copper Mountain Inn. She was 95. She is survived by her daughter Roberta Bittner and her son JC Brooks.
Visitation for Connie Brooks is tomorrow (Saturday) from 9 to 10:30am at Lamont Mortuary.

Monthly Hamburger Fry


The monthly hamburger fry held by the Gila County Historical Museum starts Friday at 5:30pm on the lawn at the museum in Globe.

The cost is $7 a person for the hamburgers and all the fixings.

Music will be provided by Paul Machula on the keyboard.

Backhoe Rodeo on Saturday


The Copper Cities and Globe Rotary Clubs are sponsoring the Backhoe Rodeo which will be held Saturday in the Fry’s parking lot behind Wells Fargo Bank.

Backhoe operators will compete for a $3,000 purse.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Jennifer Stansbury of Phoenix on a Gila County failure to appear warrant for  possession of dangerous drugs; and a Maricopa County probation violation warrant for possession of narcotic equipment.

Deputies are investigating a theft at a residence on Pinal View.

Gila County Murder Suspect Caught


A suspect wanted for the murder of an Eager man was located and arrested yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at Roosevelt Lake.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office says they got a tip from a boater that a man who was dirty and asking for water approached their boat while they were swimming. The boater left and called the Sheriff’s Office to report the incident.

57 year old Gabriel Jaramillo was taken into custody  and flown to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office Roosevelt substation, where he was checked by Tonto Basin Fire medical personnel and then flown to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Police say Jaramillo complained of  back pain, due to falling down a cliff.

Jaramillo was wanted in connection with the disappearance of 47 year old Steve Long of Eager. He reportedly shot at Gila County Sheriff’s deputies during a chase from Globe to Roosevelt Lake Saturday night but didn’t hit anyone.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter unit, Department of Corrections K-9 and tracking crews,  and officers from several other agencies participated in the search for Jaromillo.

Police Log


A Miami, Florida  man was stopped for speeding yesterday here in Miami, Arizona. The car he was driving was listed as stolen in Florida. 28 year old Alexander Dominguez was arrested and booked into the Gila County Jail.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Brian Matt after an accident yesterday on Walliman Road. Matt was charged with extreme DUI and disorderly conduct/domestic violence. A passenger in the car was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.

Nobody was hurt in a single vehicle accident yesterday morning on Wheatfields Road.

Globe Police arrested 74 year old Anthony Mirro for domestic violence assault after a disturbance on North Broad Street.

Officers are investigating a hit and run accident in which a car damaged a guard rail on East Cottonwood.

Gila County Primary Election Results


Adam Shepherd defeated Darrell Stubbs in the  Republican Primary for Gila County Sheriff.  Shepherd will face Democrat Craig Jones in the November General Election. Jones defeated Ray Van Buskirk with more than 68% of the votes.

Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores lost to Bradley Beauchamp in a close race.

David Cook defeated Tim Humphrey in the Republican Primary for Board of Supervisors in District 2. He will face Democrat Mike Pastor in November.

Democrat John Marcanti came out on top in a three way race for District 3 Supervisor.  He had 43%, followed by Ronnie McDaniel with 33% and Marvin Mull, Jr. with 24%

Gila County Recorder Sadie Jo Tomerlin defeated James Feezor with more than 62% of the votes. She will face Democrat Mickie Nye in November.

Deborah Hughes defeated Nathon Morris for County Assessor. She will face current Assessor Dale Hom in November.

Arizona Representative Jeff Flake defeated Will Cardon and two other candidates in the Republican race for US Senate. Flake received nearly 70% of the votes. He’ll run against Democrat Richard Carmona in November. Carmona was surgeon general under President George W. Bush.

Former District 1 Representative Ann Kirkpatrick defeated Navajo native and public interest attorney Wenona Benally Baldenegro  to be the Democratic candidate for District 1 in November. She will face Republican Jonathon Paton. Paton defeated three other candidates with more than 60% of the votes.

Ernest Bustamante and Emily Verdugo were the top two in a close three way race in the Democratic Primary for State Representative in District 8. They will face Republicans Frank Pratt and Thomas Shope in November.

Obituary


James H. Tewksbury, Jr. passed away Saturday at his home in Globe. He was 88. He is survived by his wife Frances; his children Taryn Bier, Berni Schuhmann, “Buddy” Tewksbury, and Barbara Tewksbury; his step son Lonnie Burgett; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
At “Jimmy” Tewksbury’s request there will be no funeral service. The family suggests that you remember him by making a donation to Copper Communities Hospice, or in the legacy of Jimmy, do an anonymous act of kindness to someone in need.


Search Continues in Gila County for Homicide Suspect


The search continues in Gila County for homicide suspect Gabriel Jaramillo.

Jaramillo was pursued by Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies Saturday night from Globe to the northern shores of Roosevelt Lake. Several other law enforcement agencies were also involved.

During the pursuit, two deputies exchanged gunfire with Jaramillo, and he shot at a third deputy. The deputies were not hurt.

On Monday, Department of Corrections tracking teams located tracks heading in a northeasterly direction away from Roosevelt Lake and away from any populated areas of Tonto Basin.. The tracking teams have helped narrow the search but Jaramillo is still at large.

Jaramillo should be considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, don’t approach him but call your local law enforcement.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a business on East Ash Street.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 20 year old Johlynna Gossett for failure to appear on a charge of burning during fre restrictions.

Scottsdale Police arrested 22 year old Jose Salayandia of Claypool on a warrant for possession and use of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Former Miami resident Ernesto Madrid passed away August 23 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa.  He was 88.
He is survived by his daughter Klaris; his son Ernest Fred Madrid, Jr.; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; and 5 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Ernesto Madrid is pending with Lamont Mortuary.

Former Miami resident Eddie Padilla passed away Sunday in Miami. He was 50. He is survived by his wife Irene; his mother Virginia Scheier; his brother Bobby Padilla; his sister Rosie Padilla; and 3 grandchildren.
Visitation for Eddie Padilla will be Thursday at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Frank Quiroz passed away Saturday at his home in Globe. He was 63. He is survived by his children Doreen Badilla, Marlene Medina and Danne Quiroz;  his mother; 3 brothers, including John Clark of San Carlos; 2 sisters, including Barbara Quiroz of Globe; and 10 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for “Danny” Quiroz will be held Saturday at 10:am at Miles Funeral Services Globe.


Tony “Pusso” Perez passed away August 23 at his home in Globe. He was 69. He is survived by his daughter Mercy; his father Joe L. Perez; his brother Daniel; and his sisters Connie Gonzales, Andrea Perez and Robin Perkins..
A luncheon for Tony “Pusso” (POO-soh) Perez will be held Saturday, September 8 from 1 to 3:pm at Holy Angels Parish Hall.

Part of Six Shooter Canyon Road Will Be Closed on Tuesday


On Tuesday the City of Globe Water Department will install a residential service tap and meter  near the intersection of Remington Road and South Six Shooter Canyon. This will take place from 6:am until 2:pm. They  do not expect  any interruption to the water service.

Six Shooter Canyon will be closed to traffic between Winchester Road and Remington Road. Traffic will be detoured to Colt Drive.

Miami Council Meets Tonight


The Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30. They will consider a settlement agreement with Tri City Fire Department.

The Council will consider the permanent installation of a mural by the Miami Arts Commission at the Highway 60 Park and discuss future artistic projects for the Park.

The agenda also includes the approval of a  $218,000 contract for the Adonis Avenue Roadway Drainage Improvement Project.

Suspect Flees After Abandoning Stolen Vehicle


The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the driver of a stolen vehicle connected to the disappearance of an Eager man.

57 year old Gabriel Jaramillo abandoned the vehicle Saturday night in the Roosevelt Lake area and fled after shots were exchanged with law enforcement

Jaramillo is 6’2”, 195-210 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.

Last night Globe Police arrested 44 year old Donna Hayes at Copper Country Mobile Home Park for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

27 year old Malinda Harrison was arrested for shoplifting.

A vehicle was reported stolen yesterday at a business on Santee Street. The car was later located and towed to the Gila County impound yard.

Officers are investigating a burglary at a residence in Globe Mobile Home Park and a theft at a business on Sutherland.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an intoxicated man in the middle of the roadway on Highweay 77 at Mm 165. Deputies contacted 34 year old Chad Mastin and charged him with domestic violence, disorderly conduct, threats and intimidation, and aggravated domestic assault.

Deputies are investigating a theft of a dog at a residence on Calle De Loma; a burglary at the Catholic Church in Claypool; and a theft at a residence on Pineway.

Miami Police arrested 50 year old Raymond Gerardo of Mesa on a Gila County warrant for child support and false reporting to an officer.

Tempe Police arrested 35 year old Chenelle Victor of Peridot on a failure to comply warrant for trespassing.

Miami Music in the Park Has 50's Theme


This week’s Miami Music in the Park has the theme “1955: A Summer Time to Remember.”

The evening includes a barbecue and dance at the park in downtown Miami. It’s   Saturday from 6:30 to 10:30pm.

Truck Driver Convicted of Transporting Marijuana


Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores announces that on Tuesday,  49 year old Clifton Epps of Jackson, Mississippi, was found guilty of transporting marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Epps was a commercial truck driver and his truck crashed while going through the Salt River Canyon on US 60. Department of Public Safety officers located 83 pounds of marijuana that had been removed from the truck and placed on the other side of the concrete barrier wall.

Epps will be sentenced in Globe on September 17 by Judge Robert Duber. He faces a sentence of three to 12 ½  years for transporting marijuana for sale.

Detective Mike Varga is Officer of the Quarter


The Gila County Attorney’s Office has named Payson Police Detective Mike Varga the Officer of the Quarter. The award was presented to Detective Varga at this week’s Gila County Board of Supervisors meeting, in appreciation of his service, professional attitude and assistance to the County Attorney’s Office.

Officers are investigating a hit and run accident yesterday evening at Sycamore and Hill Street; a fraud report taken at a business on Highway 60; criminal damage in the area of Boston Street; shoplifting at a business on South Hill Street; and a burglary at a residence on South Sutherland.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43 year old Michelle Reveles on a failure to appear warrant for operation in violation of a restriction and driving with a suspended license.

Deputies are investigating a report of threats taken at a residence on Lariat Lane  at Highway 77, and a criminal damage report taken at a residence on Noble Drive.

Joseph  Castaneda of Globe passed away Monday. He was 55. He is survived by his wife Brenda Mae; his mother Helen; two daughters; his sons Derrick Kinney, and R.J. and Travis Castaneda; 2 brothers, including Jimmy Castaneda of Miami; and 2 sisters including Connie Erwin of Globe.

'Fire House Pancake Breakfast'


The Globe Fire Department is hosting a  “Fire House Pancake Breakfast” this Saturday. The proceeds will go to two local families who each have a three year old undergoing treatment for cancer.

The benefit pancake breakfast is from 7 until 11:am Saturday at the Globe Fire Station.

For a $5 donation, firefighters will serve you pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee.

Last night Globe Police arrested  66 year old Liborio Urquidez for aggravated assault.

28 year old Alane Reyes was arrested at a residence on Lane Street for trespassing and domestic disorderly conduct.

27 year old John Falquez was arrested last night for shoplifting at Connie’s store.

20 year old Christopher Palmer was arrested for underage consumption.

Officers and EMS responded to a residence on West Hackney for a report of a possible suicide attempt resulting from a domestic disturbance. The person was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.

Globe Police are investigating a theft at a residence on Thornwood Drive and criminal damage at the Community Center.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 36 year old Amanda Wallace on a child support warrant.

A deputy located and recovered a stolen trailer at Pinto Creek Trailer Park.

A theft report was taken at a residence on Scott Avenue. 

Obituary


Charlotte Marie Kindelay of  Peridot passed away August 16 at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa. She was 79. She is survived by her children Arlinda Waterman and Anne, Melvin, Oren, Tammy and Leon Kindelay; her brother; 2 sisters; 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
The funeral for Charlotte Kindelay is today (Tuesday) at 10:am at Full Gospel Church in San Carlos.

Supervisors Meet Today


The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets today (Tuesday) at 10:am.

The Supervisors will set the primary and secondary  property tax rates for 2012.

Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores will present the Officer of the Quarter Award to Payson Police Detective Mike Varga.

The Supervisors will also consider an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Town of Miami for the County to provide $74,000 to purchase  the Cobre Valley Community Transit Building.

The American Legion in Globe will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry this Friday from 6 to 8:pm.

The cost is $8 a person.

What a Flashing Red Traffic Light Means

Some drivers are confused by the new pedestrian signal on US 60 and High Street.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says that the flashing red light means the same thing as a stop sign—drivers must stop and make sure the crosswalk is clear before they proceed.

The flashing red signal is slightly different from a regular pedestrian signal at an intersection. A normal red light means traffic must stay stopped until the green signal appears. A flashing red light means the driver must stop and then proceed when it is safe to do so.

Public Meeting to Discuss Youth Sports

A public meeting of the Copper Youth Basketball League will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6:30 pm. The public is invited to share ideas at this meeting about starting new sports programs.

The meeting will take place in the Board of Supervisors room at the Gila County Courthouse.

Nobody was hurt in a single vehicle accident yesterday morning on Highway 60 at Mile Marker 249.5.

There was an accident late last night near East Maple Street and South Fifth Street. The case is under investigation.

No injuries were reported in a two vehicle accident Saturday night. Debra Tidwell was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

A car ran into a street pole on Merritt Street. The driver and passenger fled the scene before Miami Police arrived. The driver was found later and charged with failure to control his vehicle to avoid a collision and for leaving the scene of an accident.

Miami Police arrested 22 year old Felina Bell for disorderly conduct/domestic violence.

36 year old Mario Galbadon and 34 year old Jaclyn Gilmore were arrested for burglary and criminal trespass at the Miami Town Barn.

Globe Police arrested 22 year old Gregory Phillips and 20 year old Franklin Palmer yesterday for shoplifting at the Hill Street Safeway.

Officers responded to a fight Saturday evening on Blake Street. 22 year old Leonard Allen of California was charged with aggravated assault.

22 year old  Brennan Rhodes was arrested on a failure to pay warramt for marijuana possession.

19 year old Michael Valenzuela was arrested Friday at a residence on North Main Street for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Officers are investigating a burglary at a residence on West Pinal Street; shoplifting at Walmart; and a theft at a business on Ruiz Canyon Road.

Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a domestic disturbance at a residence on Ransberger; a theft of a firearm at a residence on Main Street; and a stolen ATV from a residence on Sandi Lane.

Greenlee County Sheriff’s office arrested 35 year old George Roberts of Claypool on a child support warrant.

Globe Head Start


Globe Head Start still has a few openings for 3 and 4 year old children in the free pre-school program which begins on August 27.

Children from low income familes, foster children and children with disabilities may qualify. Children who are raised by their grandparents may also qualify.

Head Start provides Kindergarten readiness activities, as well as socialization experiences, nutritious meals and snacks.

Gov. Brewer Reappoints Flores to ACRAB

Governor Jan Brewer has reappointed Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores to the Arizona Civil Rights Advisory Board and to the Arizona Oversight Council on Driving or Operating Under the Influence Abatement.

Flores was originally appointed to the Arizona Civil Roghts Advisory Board by former Governor Janet Naopolitano in 2007. She has served for over 5 years and is the former chair of the DUI Abatement Council.

Las Lomas Collecting Old Electrical Devices for Recycling


Las Lomas Elementary School is collecting empty ink cartridges, old cell phones, mp3 players, cameras and other small electrical devices to recycle so they can provide their students with much needed classroom supplies.

Items can be dropped off at Las Lomas School between 8:am and 3:pm, Monday through Thursday.

Old Dominion Mine Park Closed on Weekdays


The City of Globe announces that the Old Dominion Mine Park will only be open on weekends from now through early December.

BHP Billiton is making repairs to the water system at Old Dominion that provides most of the water for the upcoming reopening of the Pinto Valley Mine.

For the safety of all, the Park will be closed during the week while the construction is going on.

Wildfire Updates


The Queen Fire has burned 1,200 acres, 2 miles northeast of Superior. There is significant smoke in the area. It is highly visible from Highway 60.

The Mistake Peak fire – 11 miles east of Punkin Center -  has now burned 4,000 acres. It is 15% contained.

The Charley Fire has burned 950 acres and is 10% contained. The fire is located 3 miles west of Sunflower in the Tonto National Forest.

There was a two vehicle injury accident yesterday morning at Ash and Seventh Street. Both cars were towed from the scene. One driver was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign.

Globe Police arrested 42 year old Sheryl Robles for disorderly conduct in connection with an incident that occurred on Monday.

21 year old Desiree Davis was arrested for shoplifting at Walmart.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at Shining Times Car Wash.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 54 year old Robert Padgett for domestic violence after a disturbance at a residence in Mackey’s Camp. Padgett also had a failure to appear warrant from Superior for driving with a suspended license.

30 year old inmate Dustin Stover was served a failure to appear warrant for possesion of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are investigating an assault report taken at a residence in August Hills Mobile Home Park.

Ernest Naltazan of San Carlos passed away August 12 at Copper Cottage Hospice in Mesa. He was 67. He is survived by his son Norman; 2 brothers; 4 grandchildren and and 6 great grandchildren.

CVCA Centennial Ball September 29


The Cobre Valley Center for the Arts announces that the Governor’s Centennial Ball will take place on Saturday, September 29.

A two vehicle accident occurred yesterday on East Ash and North Broad Street.

Globe Police arrested 49 year old Rubina Romero  at Hackney and Ash for disorderly conduct.

Officers are investigating a threats report taken at  Copper Rim School; a harassment report taken at a local business; a theft report taken at a residence on South Fifth Street; and a theft report taken at a residence on East Saguaro Drive.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Keenan Goree at Four Star Mobile Home Park for assault/domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

30 year old Desiree Valenzuela was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for hindering prosecution.

Deputies are investigating criminal damage at a residence on Hackney Hill; a theft at a residence on Ice House Canyon Road; and a theft at a residence on Pinal Canyon Road.

Walk Across the Mesa and 10K Challenge September 21


The Walk Across the Mesa and 10K Challenge in San Carlos will take place on Friday, September 21 from 7:am until Noon. It starts at Highway 70 and the Tribal Administration Building.

There will be first, second and third place prizes with T-shirts for all participants.

Refreshments and healthy snacks will be provided, and blood pressure checks will be available before and after the race.

Wildfires in the Tonto National Forest


The Mistake Peak Fire -11 miles east of Punkin Center- has burned 1,700 acres and is 15% contained.

Lightning started four fires yesterday (Sunday) on the Tonto National Forest.

The Hollywood Fire has burned three acres east of Arizona 87, near mile marker 205. Two fire engine crews have been assigned to that fire.

The Ice Man Fire is currently burning north of Maverick Mountain.

The two other fires are minimal and haven’t been named yet.

There was a hit and run accident Friday morning near Highway 60 and Ragus Road. Globe Police located and arrested 56 year old Joseph Phininzy of Douglas for leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Globe Police arrested 68 year old Joseph Ramirez of Mesa at a traffic stop for possession of marijuana and possession of dangerous drugs, and an outstanding warrant from the Department of Corrections.

On Saturday two people were arrested for organuized retail theft at Walmart. 27 year old Jessica Morales and 35 year old Raynell Pizano were booked into the Gila County Jail.

Officers are investigating shoplifting at a business on Highway 60; a report of counterfeit money at the Santee Circle K; a forgery report taken at Walmart; a theft at a business on East Ash; a burglary at a residence on Euclid; an auto burglary at a residence on Blake Street; and a harassment report taken on East Bailey;.

Miami Police arrested 44 year old Sean McGill for disorderly conduct/domestic violence.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old inmate Robert Mcintosh on a warrant for false reporting.

Deputies are investigating a theft of copper piping at Freeport MaMoRan.


Miami Council Meets Tonight at 6:30PM


Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

They will adopt the property tax levy for the 2012/2013 fiscal year.

The agenda also includes the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum Quarterly Report.

Globe Council Meets Tonight at 6:00

Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00. They will have an Executive Session to discuss interviews for a City Manager and contract for a City Attorney.

The Council may possibly act in an Open Session following the Executive Session.

Miami School Board Meets Tonight


The Miami School Board meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30 in the Miami High School Library.

The Board will consider an Intergovernmental Agreement with Gila Community College for dual credit courses.

Arizona Gas Prices Increase for the First Time in 18 Weeks


Arizona gasoline prices went up last week for the first time in 18 weeks. 

AAA Arizona says the statewide average increased 3.9 cents to a little less than $3.32 a gallon. Nationally, pump prices continued their upward trend, increasing 12.8 cents to a little more than $3.66 a gallon.

Here in Globe-Miami, prices went down slightly to around $3.30 a gallon.

'August Moon Over Miami'


 “August Moon Over Miami” is the theme of this week’s Music in the Park. It’s from 6:30 to 10:pm tomorrow (Saturday) at Miami Memorial Park.

Small Fires Burning in Tonto National Forest


Lightning started several small fires Wednesday in the Tonto National Forest.

The Picket Fire in the Globe Ranger District burned .8 of an acre.

The Mesa Fire in the Salt River Canyon Wilderness burned 2 acres.

The Woodbury Fire burned 200 acres in the Superstition Wilderness.

The Granite Fire burned .10 of an acre in the Mesa Ranger District.

The Houston Fire in the southwest section of Hellsgate Wilderness burned 3 acres.

The McFadden Fire burned 12 acres in the Pleasant Valley Ranger District.

And the Mistake Fire has burned 10 acres in the Tonto Basin Ranger District.

Globe Police were dispatched to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center early this morning after a call about a highly intoxicated 19 year old woman who was trying to leave against medical advice. Carissa Richards was arrested for disorderly conduct and underage consumption.

A juvenile at Globe High School was referred to juvenile probation for assault.

Officers are investigating an assault report taken at a business on Highway 60 and a burglary report taken at a buisiness on North Main Street.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 26 year old Pamela Zufelt on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct.

40 year old Glenn Hart of Globe was arrested on a child support warrant from Kansas.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft report taken on Old Oak.

August is Child Support Awareness Month


The Gila County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed August “Child Support Awareness Month.” The Gila County Attorney’s Child Support Enforcement Office has been rated the top performer in the nation.

Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores reminds all Gila County citizens that child support services are available to any parent, guardian or caretaker for whom child support is needed.

Tonto National Forest Camping Restrictions Reduced


Tonto National Forest officials have modified the temporary area closure enacted last month because of three bear attacks.

The Ponderosa, Upper Tonto Creek, Lower Tonto Walk-In, Christopher Creek and Sharp Creek Campgrounds were closed last month. Now increased live fuel moisture has improved vegetation production for the bears.

Some of the campgrounds have been reopened with restrictions. A few are open for day use only. The Ponderosa Campground remains closed for the season.

Visitors are prohibited from leaving bear attractants in their camping areas.

Lightning Starts Small Fires in Tonto National Forest


Lightning started at least 8 fires yesterday in the Tonto National Forest. The fires range in size from .10 to 10 acres.

Fire specialists are on the scene. Resources have been ordered and are en route.

Gila General Hospital Reunion Picnic


The annual Gila General Hospital reunion picnic will be held on Saturday, August 25 at the Miami Senior Center. The picnic begins at 5:pm.

Early this morning Globe Police arrested 23 year old Jon-Fitzgerald Kenton at a residence on East Saguaro for kidnapping and other charges that will be sent to the County Attorney for  prosecuion.

A call about a man trying to fight customers at a business on Highway 60 resulted in the arrest of 42 year old Martin Cassdore for disorderly conduct.

23 year old Roxanna Moon was arrested for fraudulent schemes in connection with an incident that occurred in June.

19 year old Robert Dalgarn was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

Officers are investigating a burglary report taken at a residence on Hackney.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested  37 year old Summer Ojeda for disorderly conduct/domestic violence and driving with a suspended license.

Bixby Road Closed Saturday for Construction


The Gila County Public Works Department announces that Mountain States Contracting will finish upgrading the railroad crossing on Bixby Road this Saturday.

A concrete crossing will be installed and Bixby Road will be closed to all traffic between 5:am and 6:pm on Saturday. Residents are urged to use Pinal Creek Road during this time.

Supervisors Meet Tuesday


The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday at 10:am.

They will adopt a Proclamation naming August to be Child Support Awareness Month in Gila County.

The Supervisors will consider authorizing the advertisement of an Invitation for Bids for the Russell Road Reconstruction Project.

They will also authorize the quarterly posting of a public notice of online auction of surplus materials.

The Supervisors will meet as the Gila County Library District Board of Directors to approve Library Service Agreements for funding with the Hayden, Isabelle Hunt, Miami, Payson, Young and Tonto Basin libraries.

Crime Prevention Tips at Globe Active Adult Center


Tuesday, August 7 is National Night Out. This event encourages communities and police to work together to reduce crime.

A Globe Police Officer will give some crime prevention tips Tuesday at 11:am at the Globe Active Adult center.

Pavement Improvement on US 60


A pavement improvement project to resurface four miles of US 60 from the 60/70 junction to the Gila County Fairgrounds begins today (Monday).

The $431,000 project is scheduled for completion by the end of August. It involves the placement of a microseal surface on the roadway.

Work hours are 6:am to 7:pm Monday thrugh Friday. Drivers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

Miami Police responded to the Christina Apartments after a woman reported being beaten up by her boyfriend and left at the top of Cherry Flats Road. She was taken to the hospital with several injuries including a broken arm. An Attempt to Locate has been issued for 23 year old Joseph Wilson.

Miami Police received several 911 calls about two brothers fighting on Apache Street. One brother bit the other several times before officers arrived. They arrested 22 year old Nathan Harper for aggravated assault.

Officers were dispatched to a car fire at the Miami Car Wash, along with Globe and Miami Fire Departments. While investigating the fire, officers learned that 49 year old Miami resident Douglas Price was wanted on a felony warrant  in Texas for attempted murder and aggravated assault. Price was arrested and booked into the Gila County Jail.

27 year old Christopher Harper was arrested on a Miami warrant for theft and a Department of Corrections warrant for parole violation.

Miami Police arrested 46 year old Robert Ramos on a theft warrant.


There was a single vehicle accident late Friday night in the Pinal Mountains near Sulphide Del Rey campgrounds. Two people were medically transported for treatment.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 26 year old Clint Wright for domestic violence disorderly conduct and misconduct with a weapon.

69 year old Mabelline Kayso was arrested on Saturday for aggravated assault.

On Friday, 42 year old Holly Pitman was arrested for shoplifting at Walmart.

Officers are investigating an assault in the area of Jess Hayes Road and Ruiz Canyon; two incidents of shoplifting at Walmart;  a shoplifting report at a business on East Ash Street;  a theft at a residence on Hackney Hill; and an attempted burglary at a residence on North Third Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating criminal damage at a residence on Main Street.

Humane Society Charity Pool Tourney


The High Desert Humane Society is having a Charity Pool Tourney on Sunday at the Huddle Sports Bar.

Salvation Army Day Care Accepting Applications

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday morning on Broad Street near Murphy Street. One driver was cited for improper use of a left turn lane and driving with a suspended license.

There were no injuries reported in a two vehicle accident at Ash and Hill Street.

Another two vehicle accident occurred yesterday evening at the intersection of South High Street and East Ash Street.


Miami Police responded to a call about a dog bite on Reppy Avenue. The dog owner had several cuts and bite wounds on her arms.Officers found that the dog had been stabbed several times. An investigation determined that 26 year old Adam Keller was responsible for the wounds on the dog. He was charged with animal cruelty.

Globe Police arrested 52 year old Keith Williams for domestic violence/assault.

25 year old Lindsey Castro was arrested for felony theft at a business on Highway 60.

21 year old Hillary Garcia was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct.

Officers are investigating a report of domestic assault taken at a residence on Yuma and a burglary at a residence on Gleason.
