Sensitive Documents Found in Dumpster
Two women looking for savings in a Payson dumpster found hundreds of documents containing personal information that could be used for identity theft. They found applications for the WIC program which provides food and health services for low income pregnant women.
Lynda Perkins contacted ABC15 and they joined her for another dumpster dive a few days later. They found even more files of paper work in the same recycling bin.
Gila County employee Sherri Miller told the TV station that she was responsible for throwing the papers away. She said that they normally shred the forms but couldn’t give a reason why they didn’t this time.
Gila County Health and Emergency Services Director Michael Driscoll apologized for the mistake and said they would make sure it doesn’t happen again.
But at least one person whose personal information was found in the dumpster says she plans to take legal action against the Gila County Health Division.
