Arizona Traffic Fatalities Lowest
in 16 Years

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the number of traffic deaths on Arizona’s roads is at a 16 year low. Last year there were 807 traffic fatalities in the state. That’s the lowest number since 1993. In 2008, 938 people lost their lives in crashes around Arizona. Over the past two years, Arizona has seen a 14% decrease in roadway fatalities.

ADOT says there is no single contributing factor to the decrease, but it credits a focus on “the Four E’s” of roadway safety: engineering, enforcement, emergency response and education.
