Miami Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony October 16

The Miami Sports Hall of Fame Fourth Annual Induction Ceremony will be on Saturday, October 16 at Miami High School. More than 50 athletes will be inducted into either the Hall of Fame or the Wall of Champions. Three coaches will also be inducted. They are Henry Reyna, Vera Jackson and Opal Paddock. Coach Reyna will be at the ceremony. The other coaches will be represented by family members.

Girls making all-state that will be inducted include Nancy Trujillo, Anna Stone, Joy Hincha, Christina Bejarano, Lorre Anderson and Latisha Graham. They will go into the Miami Sports Hall of Fame. The Wall of Champions is made up of individuals who finished first in state track, tennis and badminton. These include Vivian Saenz, Sheryl Martinez, Susan Heatherly, Monica Velasco, Nancy Trujillo, Lorre Anderson, Karen Eager, Latisha Graham and Rene Hicks.

Bernard Demichles still holds the Vandal pole vault record of 14 feet 6 inches. He will be inducted into the Wall of Champions. All-state male athletes to be inducted include Dennis Marschall, Chris Lorenzen, Robert Johnson, Lonnie Graham, Steve Razo and Charles Yates.

Members of state championship teams will also be on hand and recognized.

The tennis state championship teams of 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989 will be recognized. The girls state championship teams in volley ball and basketball in 1987 will be there for induction. Two boys basketball teams, the 1981 state champions and the undefeated 1983 team will also be inducted.

The Mimai Sports Hall of Fame is located in the Miami Memorial Library. It is composed of trophy cases, photo rooms, a Coaches Corner, several murals and photo displays of Vandal teams.

The public is invited to the induction ceremony at 1:pm on Saturday, October 16 in the Miami High School Auditorium.
