State Sen. Sylvia Allen says she still plans to introduce legislation to remove roadblocks to Gila Community College independence.
A task force has been looking into the possibility of doing away with the property tax base and population thresholds that keep Gila County from operating its own fully accredited college.
The Payson Roundup reports that many Graham County residents oppose the plan because they believe an independent Gila Communmity College would take money away from Eastern Arizona College. GCC contracts with EAC for administration and accreditation.
Gila Community College pays a 25% overhead fee to Eastern Arizona College on top of all expenses.
