Cross Convicted of Attempted Murder

A Gila County jury has convicted Edgar Travis Cross of second degree attempted murder. Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores says the jury was presented evidence that Cross attempted to kill Mark Channel by firing five shots at him as Channel was leaving a residence on New Street. Channel was not hit by any of the shots but the truck he was driving was.

Cross was previously convicted of the same charge and other related charges in 2008 but an Appeals Court overturned the attempted murder conviction because of an error in one of the jury instructions. The other related convictions were not affected.
Cross is currently serving a 19 year sentence for his convictions in the 2008 trial. He will be sentenced on January 3 on the second degree attempted murder conviction.
