Busy Fire Season Ahead

Firefighters and weather forecasters say the 65,000 acre grass fire in southeastern New Mexico is a sign of what’s ahead for most of the Southwest.

Dry vegetation, above normal temperatures, high winds and little chance of significant future rainfall suggests a busy fire season.

KOLD reports that more than 125 square miles have burned in New Mexico along with barns, storage sheds and other structures.

Officials say conditions are expected to worsen across southeastern Arizona and in New Mexico up through the middle Rio Grande Valley.
