State Receives Five Bids for Private Prisons

The Arizona Silver Belt reports that five bidders have submitted proposals to the Arizona Department of Corrections to build and manage private prisons in Arizona.

One of the bidders is Emerald Correctional Management which is proposing to build a 1,000 bed medium security prison near the Gila County Fairgrounds in Globe.

The bidding has closed, but no further information is being released by the Department of Corrections until the bids have been awarded. After that, state law requires the DOC to hold a public hearing at the proposed sites. The meetings will be conducted by the DOC, giving the community the opportunity to voice their support or opposition.
