First Friday Program Highlights 1951 Court Case

The May First Friday program will highlight an interesting court case in a presentation at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum.

Arizona passed a statute in 1951 giving school boards the option to desegregate. The Globe and Miami school boards decided to do so. They closed two African American schools, firing the teachers there.

Two teachers filed a lawsuit against the school boards. Dr. Christine Marin will discuss the background and results of the case in her presentation Friday night at 6:00.
