Mineral Museum Supporters Want to Stop New Museum

Supporters of the former Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum say they want to stop construction of the Arizona Experience Museum. They say they plan legal action and to turn public opinion against it to dry up contributions.

A story in the July issue of Phoenix Magazine says that supporters of the Mining and Mineral Museum want to reestablish the Mineral Museum. It had programs specifically designed to the state’s education curriculum. Thousands of students and parents visited the museum every year.

Gila County’s late state Representative Polly Rosenbaum relocated the museum to its downtown Phoenix location in 1991 with a resolution that it would be the permanent home. Last July Gov. Brewer placed the museum in the hands of the Arizona Historical Society. The museum was closed a couple of months ago.
