San Carlos and 13 Other Tribes Receive Housing Grants

Fourteen Arizona Native American tribes have been awarded a total of $44 million in housing grants.

KOLD in Tucson reports that the money is part of $400 million in US Housing and Urban Development Department funds distributed to tribes nationwide.

The Indian Housing Block Grant program benefits low income families living on tribal land.

Tribes can use the money for housing assistance, crime prevention and safety, and to find ways to solve affordable housing problems.

The Gila River Indian Community, the White Mountain Apache Tribe, the Hopi Tribe and the San Carlos Apache Tribe received the largest amount of Arizona grant funding.
