County Health Department Promises Changes

The Gila County Health Department is promising changes after an ABC15 report revealed a staff member dumped thousands of sensitive documents in a Payson dumpster.

The personal information included copies of birth certificates, social security numbers and drivers licenses found at the bottom of a recycling bin.

A county employee admitted that she failed to check before throwing two boxes of documents in the trash.

Gila County Supervisor Tommie Martin says the matter is being investigated by Arizona County’s Insurance Pool at Gila County’s request, to ensure an independent investigation. Once the investigation is completed, the county has promised to put in place the procedures needed to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
