Tens of thousands of Americans may lose their Internet
service on Monday unless they check their computers for malware that could have
taken over their computers more than a year ago.
The FBI says that the number of computers that are probably
affected is more than 277,000 worldwide, about 64,000 in the US.
When the FBI took down some international hackers last year,
they brought in a private company to take over for the malicious servers so
that the victims would not suddenly lose their Internet service.
However, that temporary Internet system will shut down at
12:01am EDT on Monday.
