Trucks to Deliver Girders for New US 70 Bridge

A series of wide-load trucks will deliver 120 concrete girders for the US 70 bridge near Bylas beginning Thursday. The delivery will take place over 15 weeknights.

The new 15-span bridge is being constructed by the Arizona Department of Transportation one mile west of Bylas to replace the existing bridge that was built in 1957.

The deliveries will begin shortly after  midnight on Thursday and travel from Phoenix to Tucson, then from Tucson to Safford and west on US 70 to Bylas.

Motorists traveling on the route are advised to be alert fro slow-moving oversized loads and drive with caution.

The $12.7 million project will feature wider lanes, emergency shoulders and a pedestrian walkway. It is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2013.
