San Carlos Woman Sentenced for Stealing Tribal Funds


A San Carlos woman has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for embezzling  tribal funds.

34 year old Holly Faye Youvella was also ordered to pay $272,000 in restitution and perform 100 hours of community service.

While she was the bookkeeper for Peridot Shopping Center, Inc.—a San Carlos Apache Tribal Organization—Youvella embezzled about $268,000 of the shopping center’s money by cashing fraudulent checks made payable to either herself or a family member. She also admitted that she stole about $4,300 by directing multiple fraudulent electronic payments to personal credit and utility accounts.

Youvella has been ordered to self-surrender to serve her sentence on December 10. 2012.
