With Easter Sunday right around the corner, long time newsman Ted Lake says he is looking for folks who remember celebrating Easter at or near the Oak Flat recreational area east of Superior.
Oak Flat has been a traditional site for many people in our communities, including the early pioneers. Short stories and public announcements appeared in historic editions of the Arizona Silver Belt and Arizona Record newspapers. They can be found within the hundreds of rolls of microfilm copies of old publications at the Rosenbaum Achives Center in Phoenix.
Ted says he is looking at the possibility of putting together a manuscript about " Easter at Oak Flat " for a future book or magazine publication, and a possible series of news articles. If you have any photos of past Easter Sunday events held in this area, or an old newspaper write up or photo, please send him a photocopy. Write your name on the photocopy, and describe briefly the event at Oak Flat and include your telephone number. Note when the photo was taken or at least an approximate date.
If you don't have any photos but you do remember times when you went to the Oak Flat Campgrounds for an Easter event, then please write a brief description about when you were there and what the event was.
Then sign your name and give your telephone number.
If your church held Easter Sunrise services there, drop him a note about that, too, especially if you have the church bulletin announcing the event. Include your name and telephone number.
Please do not send any original photos or original church bulletins at this time. This information can be mailed to Ted Lake, P.O. Box 31, Globe, Arizona 85502. Or email Ted at teddlake@yahoo.com.
