Rabies Warning for Young Area

Gila County Rabies Control has issued a rabies warning for the Young area in northern Gila County.

A wild grey fox in the Parker Creek area near Young tested positive for rabies this week.

If you are heading  there, be aware of your surroundings. Observe wildlife from a distance. Keep your pets on a leash if you see any animals acting abnormally.

Rabid animals may show no fear of people and may even be friendly or overly aggressive.

If you or a loved one are bitten by an animal, or if you come in contact with an animal’s saliva, wash the exposed site immediately with soap and water. Report the bite to local animal control or health officials as soon as possible.

The number for the Gila County Health Deprtment is 928-402-8811.
