Tonto National Monument is offering two special interpretive
programs this weekend. The programs are led by National Park Service Rangers at
archaeological sites in the Tonto National Forest.
A tour of the Schoolhouse Point Platform Mound takes place on Friday (January 24) at 2:pm. This site is located at the west side of
Roosevelt Lake. It is unique because it was occupied for more than 100 years
while most of the other prehistoric settlements in the area were smaller and
only occupied briefly.
A tour of Cline Terrace Platform Mound will take place on Saturday at 2:pm. This site is located at the east side of Roosevelt
Lake and was a center of activity for more than 150 years.
The Tonto National Monument is open every day except Christmas
from 8:am to 5:pm.
