Staff Sgt. Manuel Mendoza was posthumously awarded the Medal
of Honor yesterday (Tuesday) by President Obama.
Sgt. Mendoza was born in Miami, AZ. He was nicknamed the “Arizona
Kid.” He was given the Distinguished Service Cross for courageous actions
during combat operations on Mount Battaglia, Italy, on October 4, 1944.
