The Tanner fire has now burned about 4,800 acres. The fire began August 20 near the peak of Armer Mountain. It is 10% contained.
Smoke from the fire is visible in the Globe, Tonto Basin and Young areas. Smoke can also be seen from the northeast Valley and when traveling on Highway 87 between the Valley and Payson. Highway 288 is closed from Reynolds Creek south to the A-Cross Road.
