Questions Remain After Bear DNA Tests

DNA test results on two of the three black bears recently removed from the Tonto National Forest have confirmed that they were not involved in the June 24 attack on a man at the Ponderosa Campground.

Officials say a lack of DNA material keeps them from determining if any of the bears were involved in similar attacks on May 31 and June 21.

Since the end of last month, two campers have been attacked by bears while staying at the Ponderosa Campground, 10 miles east of Payson.

Another person was attcked by a bear in Tonto Village, which is about a mile north of the Ponderosa Campground.
