Globe Council Meets Monday

Globe City Council meets Monday at 6:pm. The Council will hear a presentation about US 60 realignment. They will consider changing the upper Communiy Center baseball field to a soccer complex. They’ll consider revising downtown parking configuration to add additional downtown parking. And they will consider a $1,500 request from the Gila County Historical Society Museum for the Centennial City Band.

CVRMC Organ and Tissue Donor Registration

Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center is hosting an organ and tissue donor registration on Monday. The registration will take place between 8:am and 4:pm in the lobby. It takes less than two minutes to register.

Eight lives can be saved from one organ donor. One organ and tissue donor can save and heal up to 50 lives.

Gas Prices Down

AAA Arizona says that a freefall in crude oil prices has stopped a trend in rising gasoline prices. The average Arizona pump price dropped nearly two cents since last week to a little less than $3.37 a gallon. The nationwide average fell more than 8 cents from last week to $3.62 a gallon.

Here in Globe-Miami, the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular is around $3.42.

Benefit Car Wash and Bake Sale

A Car Wash and Bake Sale to help Lyle Aneas will be held tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 7:30am. Lyle has been in critical condition since August 4 and is in a coma. His diagnosis is unknown and he has been having nonstop seizures.

If you’d like to donate money, an account has been set up at Bank of America.

The Car Wash and Bake Sale fundraiser will be held tomorrow morning at Horne Motors.

Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a hit and run accident yesterday afternoon at a business on Ash Street.

Last night Globe Police were dispatched to the Santee Circle K where a man was passed out in a truck. 47 year old Guillermo Vargas was found to be in possession of dangerous drugs. He was arrested on that charge and booked into the Gila County Jail.

32 year old Francisco Curiel was arrested on a warrant for child support and a warrant for theft of means of transportation,, armed robbery, kidnapping and assault.

Officers are investigating a theft report and a delayed burglary report taken at a business on Broad Street.

Gila County Task Force arrested 22 year old Vincent Doss on a warrant for probation violation on a charge of criminal trespassing.

Gila County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fraud report and a report of a theft of a firearm from a residence on Cypress Drive.

Obituary

Daniel Roy Harmon passed away last week at his home in Globe. He was 51. He is survived by his mother Virginia; 2 brothers; his sister Jan Miller of Globe; and his friend Carolyn Turpin.
There will be a time of remembering and celebrating Dan Harmon’s life tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:pm at the Word of Life Assembly of God fellowship hall.

Low Cost Rabies Clinic

Gila County Rabies Control Department is hosting a low cost rabies clinic on Saturday from 1:30 until 3:pm at the animal shelter.

The cost of the rabies shot is $10, plus the cost of a license. Licenses are $15 for an unaltered animal and $7 for a spayed or neutered animal.

State law requires that all dogs over four months old be vaccinated for rabies and licensed in the county you live in.

Globe Active Adult Center Summer Sale

Globe Active Adult Center’s Summer Sale starts Friday at 9:am. They'll have a variety of gently used clothes, household items, books, outdoor furniture and more.

Free Showing of 'Rio' at Globe Library

Tomorrow’s Friday free movie at the Globe Public Library is Rio. It starts at 2:pm.

MVD Provides Online Practice Tests

Applicants for an Arizona driver license who have to take the written test can now access online written practice exams. They are at www.azdot.gov/mvd. There are two practice tests with 10 questions each. The questions are like the ones on the actual 30 question test.

All of the answers are found in the Arizona Driver License Manual and Customer Service Guide which can be obtained from any MVD office or online.

Currently only about 44% of Arizona applicants taking the driver license exam pass it the first time.

Car Wash and Tamale Sale

A Benefit Car Wash and Tamale Sale for Ramiro Angeles will be held Saturday at 9:am at Fry’s. The purpose of the event is to raise the funds needed for surgery and medical expenses.

Miami Fiesta Committee Meets Tonight

The Town of Miami Fiesta Committee meets tonight (Thursday) at 6:00 at Miami Town Hall.

Police Log

Nobody was hurt in an accident about 3:30 yesterday afternoon on Broad Street. A driver was cited for unsafe backing.

There was a one vehicle accident just before noon near Cobre Valley Plaza. The accident is under investigation.

Globe Police arrested 37 year old Robert Rodriguez for domestic violence, assault and criminal damage in connection with an incident that occurred on July 9. Rodriguez also had an outstanding child support warrant.

20 year old Ashkeya Vellejos was arrested for domesrtic disorderly conduct and domestic criminal damage after a disturbance late last night on South Hill Street.

31 year old Lorenza Cruz was arrested on a warrant for theft of means of transportation, armed robbery, kidnapping and assault.

27 year old Cristal Estrella was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Officers are investigating a report of attempted fraud; a theft at a residence on Crestwood; and missing property from a residence on Sycamore Street.

Gila County Task Force Interdiction Unit arrested 29 year old Beau Gerardo for possession of dangerous drugs and 2 child support warrants.

D-Backs 'Bark in the Park' This Saturday

The Arizona Diamondbacks will have their first ever “Bark in the Park” this Saturday. Bring your dog to the game between the Diamondbacks and the New York Mets and a portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the homeless animals of the Arizona Humane Society.

For $20 a person and $20 for each four legged companion, you’ll also be able to take part in the puppy parade before the game at 4:pm with the Grand Marshall Humane Eddy.

Art Show August 19

An Art Show will take place at the Madera Peak Vista Apartments Clubhouse on Friday, August 19 from 11:am until 2:pm. It will feature drawings, paintings, and crafts by Gila Community College art instructor Larry Brown and various artists from the apartments.

The purpose of the Art Show is to encourage senior citizens to go back to college and challenge themselves.

Globe PD Enforcing School Zone Speed Limit

Globe Police Department reminds you that school is back in session. They ask that drivers be a aware of children walking to and from school and for pedestrians in crosswalks. The speed limit in school zones is 15 mph. Globe Police Officers will be conducting concentrated patrols in the school zones and will be enforcing the school zone speed limit with “zero tolerance.”

About 1:45 this morning Globe Police received a call about a bear walking around the Judy’s Cook House parking lot. The bear was last seen at the base of the tailings across from Walmart. If you see the bear please call the Globe Police Department.

One person was taken to the hospital after a single vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Fairgrounds Road.

No injuries were reported from traffic acccidents yesterday at Sycamore and Hill, at Third and Ash, and in the area of Cobre Valley Motors.

Gila County Task Force Interdiction Unit arrested two people at a traffic stop yesterday morning on Highway 60 at mile post 286. 35 year old Nathan Cox of Snowflake ran from the vehicle. He was apprehended with the help of the Department of Public Safety, San Carlos Game and Fish Department, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Criminal Investigations Unit. Cox was charged with posession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. 57 year old David Higgins of Snowflake was also arrested for possession of dangerous drugs.

Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Brittany Martinez for disorderly conduct and domestic violence after a disturbance on Rattlesnake Drive.

Breanna Rene Hamlet ws arrested for aggravated assault at Sunrise Mobile Home Park.

A deputy took a report of a scam that occurred to a resident in Wheatfields. The resident received a check in the mail from a company called “Shopper’s Direct” with a letter saying account information was needed to cash the check. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office reminds you to be very carful when a person or company offers money or a prize in return for personal information.

Globe Police arrested 28 year old Aaron Gatewood on a warrant for theft of means of transportation, armed robbery, kidnapping and assault.

Officers are investigating a theft from a vehicle; a report of a juvenile receiving threatening text messages; and a possible theft of a generator from a residence on Birch Street.

Registry Raises $12,000

Be the Match Marrow Registry thanks everyone who supported Wayne Blake and his family by joining the Registry or by making a donation in his honor. More than $12,000 was raised to help patients that need a marrow transplant and 90 new potential donors were added to the Registry.

Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday morning at Highway 70 and Montecito Drive. One driver was cited for failure to control a vehicle to avoid an accident.

No injuries were reported in an accident at South and Fourth Streets. A driver was cited for failure to yield at a Yield sign.

20 year old William Lagunas was arrested early this morning for disorderly conduct and domestic violence after a disturbance on Banker Avenue.

25 year old Ruben Morales was arrested for domestic violence/assault yesterday after a disturbance on Hill Street. Morales also had outstanding warrants for probation violation on a charge of aggravated assault, possesion of dangerous drugs and for child support.

Officers are investigating a harassment report and a report of an attempted burglary on South Devereaux.

Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Raymond Guevara on warrants for failure to appear on a charge of aggravated assault, possession of dangerous drugs and child support.

A deputy located and arrested Vincent Winston after he escaped from the Gila County Courthouse.

Deputies are investigating a theft in the area of Pinal Canyon Road.

Obituaries

Gale “Wayne” Blake of Miami passed away Monday at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. He was 66.
First visitation for “Wayne” Blake will be Friday from 4 to 6:pm at Miles Funeral Services Miami. Second Visitation is Saturday at 9:am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Claypool. The funeral is at 10:00.

Doris Ruth Shearer James of Globe passed away Sunday. She was 84. She is survived by her sister; her brother; 5 children, including Anne Johnson, Aline James, and Jesse James; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The funeral for Doris James will be Saturday at 10:am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
A potluck gathering in memory of Doris will be held at 11:30 at a location to be determined.

Rig Hauling Anode Across Arizona to Miami


A Phoenix-based hauling company will be carrying a 285 ton anode across Arizona this week to the Freeport-McMoRan mine in Miami. A 225 foot specially designed truck and trailer rig from Precision Heavy Haul is expected to cross the border from Nevada into Arizona shortly after midnight tonight (Tuesday AM) It started its trip from Salt Lake City last Tuesday and will take eight more days to reach its destination.

During its trip across the state, motorists can expect delays in the vicinity of the oversized load, which takes up to two lanes and is being escorted by Department of Public Safety officers and pilot cars.

The rig’s final day of travel will be next Tuesday, August 16 when it leaves Tonto Basin at 6:am, traveling southeast on SR 188, then west on US 60 to New Street in Miami.

Miami Council Meets Tonight

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30. They’ll consider authorizing a preliminary traffic study by Redflex, the company that provides photo enforcement for Globe and other cities.They will also set the property tax rate for the next fiscal year.

The Council will consider an ordinance concerning Property Maintenance, Public Nuisances and Abatement. Another ordinance concerns animals within the Town Limits. And the Council will discuss the possibility of restarting the neighborhood cleanup program and providing dumpsters for use by Miami residents.

Miami School Board Meets Tonight

Miami School Board meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30 in the Miami High School Library.

Police Log

One person was cited after a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Highway 60 at Escudilla.

A non-injury hit and run accident Saturday night near the Drift Inn resulted in the arrest of 27 year old Toni Weathers for extreme DUI.

There was a two vehicle injury accident Friday afternoon at Ash and Hill Streets. No further information is available about that accident.

Globe Police arrested Armando Garcia yesterday after a domestic violence incident on East Street.

22 year old Roxanna Moon was arrested on a failure to appear warrant on a charge of possession of a dangerous drug.

41 year old Manuel Casillas was arrested last night for forgery and fraudulent schemes in connection with a report taken on Friday.

Early Sunday morning officers took a report of a strong arm robbery and theft of an automobile in the area of Hackney Hill. The case is pending further investigation.

On Saturday Globe Police arrested 22 year old Louis McIntosh and 30 year old Kimberly Keefee for burglary at the Globe Food Bank.

18 year old Joshua Mendoza was arrested on a warrant for possesion of drug paraphernalia.

20 year old Alexandria Cook was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct and providing liquor to a minor.

Officers responded to a report of people on S. Hill Street catching bats and then throwing them in the street to be run over. 19 year old Devin Hannigan was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Arizona Game and Fish was notified about the bats.

Globe Police are investigating a fraud report taken at a business on N. Broad Street; a theft; a theft from a vehicle; a report of telephone harassment; and an attempted vehicle break in on Linda Vista.

Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Tiarra Clark for burglary.

19 year old Randy Alexander was cited and released early Friday morning for driving without a license, registration and proof of insurance. His car was towed for a 30 day hiold.

Deputies are investigating domestic disturbances on Central Avenue, at Four Star Mobile Home Park and at the Rock House mobile home park.

Apache County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Michele Myrick-Jones of Claypool on a failure to appear warrant for a bad check charge.
