Community Concert Association Presents Barbershop Chorus

The Globe-Miami Community Concert Association will present the East Valley Lamplighters Barbershop Chorus tomorrow (Saturday).

They will perform favorites from the 60s, 70s and 80s in the traditional barbershop harmony.

If you are not a member of the Community Concert Association, tickets for this performance will be available at the door for $20.

You can still purchase a membership: $35 for adults and $10 for children. There are also family membership prices. Membership includes tickets to this performance and three others this season.

Saturday’s performance begins at 7:pm at the Miami High School Auditorium.


Free GED and English Classes Start January 14

The Gila County Schools Superintendent’s Office is sponsoring free GED and English classes.

The classes will be held from 3 to 6:pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning Tuesday, January 14.

Low Cost Rabies Clinic on January 18

A low cost rabies clinic will be held next Saturday (January 18) at the Animal Shelter. It’s from 1:30 until 3:pm.

The cost of the rabies shot is $10 plus the cost of a license. That’s $30 for an unaltered animal and $10 for a spayed or neutered animal.

Proof is required.


Police Log

No injuries were reported in a two vehicle collision last night on East Ash Street.

Globe Police arrested 41 year old Dempsey Bylas for disorderly conduct at a business on East Ash Street.

18 year old Kendrick Noland was arrested for unlawful consumption of alcohol after a disturbance on North Street.

34 year old Michael Shorten was arrested at a traffic stop early this morning for DUI.

Officers took a report of an incorrigible juvenile at a residence on North Main Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic incident at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park; a domestic incident on Inspiration; a burglary in Wheatfields; and a delayed burglary report taken at a residence on New Street.


Man Arrested After Hostage Incident

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office has released more information about a 911 call received Tuesday evening.

Around 7:pm a man identified as Eric Spencer reported that he and several women and children were being held hostage by a man named Charles Fee. Fee was holding them hostage because he thought Spencer had stolen a gun from him. Fee said he would not allow anyone to leave until the gun was returned.

Deputies arrived and took Fee into custody without incident. He was charged with domestic violence disorderly conduct, assault, and threats and intimidation.

Police Log

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old James Granato at a residence on Hopi for aggravated assault.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident on Calle De Loma; reports of threats taken at Freeport McMoRan and on Cooley Ranch Road; animal cruelty reported at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park; burglaries on Central and on Apache Hills Lane; trespassing at a residence on Kinnemur and a residence on Nell; and criminal damage at a residence on Mayss.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Valerio Garcia of Miami on a child support warrant.

Last night Globe Police arrested 38 year old Bobbie Thompson for DUI.

60 year old Olivia Bracamonte was arrested on a warrant for a fire code violation.

49 year old Leola Upshaw was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for shoplifting.

Officers took a shoplifting report at a business on Ash Street.

Rachel Marie Warren of Globe passed away yesterday (January 8) at St. Luke’s Hospital in Phoenix. She was 82. She is survived by her husband Adron; her children Jerry Warren and Jeanette Moore; her sister Delia Berumen; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The funeral for Rachel Warren is Monday (January 13) at 1:pm at Lamont Mortuary.


Sheriff Releases More Information About 911 Call

Gila County Sheriff Adam Shepherd has released more information about the 911 call received on December 28.

A man told dispatchers that his mother was unresponsive and had apparently suffered head trauma. When deputies arrived they found that the woman was dead.
She has been identified as 74 year old Louise Cook.

Gila County Detectives are waiting for lab results from the Medical Examiner’s Office.


The Gila County Sheriff’s Office and the County Attorney’s Office are conducting a joint investigation.

Health Insurance Info Event at GAAC Cancelled

The event that had been scheduled for today offering help applying for health insurance has been cancelled due to an emergency.

This event at the Globe Active Adult Center will be rescheduled.

CVRMC Presents Diabetes Classes

Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center is presenting three diabetes classes for the public beginning Thursday (January 9). The classes will be in the Medical Office Building from 1 to 2:pm.

Two more classes with different topics will be held on February 13 and March 13.

The teacher is Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietician Cecilia Chapman.

The classes are free but registration is required.

Police Log

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 20 year old Darie Roehm for aggravated harassment and burglary.

26 year old Christopher Mulholland was arrested at a traffic stop for possession of dangerous drugs and driving with a suspended license.

18 year old Shiann Clayburn was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

Last night Globe Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at a business on Highway 60. After an investigation it was determined that 20 year old Jacob Ruiz was making a false report.

Tucson Police arrested 23 year old Paula Hernandez of Miami on a failure to appear warrant for trafficking in stolen property.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50 year old Charles Fee at a residence on Russell Road for disorderly conduct, domestic violence, assault, and threats and intimidation.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident in the area of Broadway and criminal damage on Hopi Drive.

Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a three vehicle accident yesterday afternoon in a business parking lot on Highway 60.

Two people were arrested after a domestic disturbance last night on Escudilla Drive. 44 year old Bobbi Marsteller was charged with domestic violence/disorderly conduct. 25 year old Robert Williams was arrested for disorderly conduct.

27 year old Misty Manuel of Goodyear was arrested for assault yesterday at a residence on Baseline Spur.

Officers are investigating a fraud report, and a hit and run into a wall at a residence on Sixth Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office served a warrant to 22 year old inmate Jonathon Stephenson for misconduct involving weapons, possession and use of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are investigating a report of animal cruelty taken on Ruth Avenue; thefts on Central, McKinney and in Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park; and criminal damage on Hunt Avenue and at the Gila County Juvenile Detention facility.


Obituaries

Ernestine Hernandez passed away January 1 at her home in Miami. She was 75. She is survived by 5 children; her brother; 4 sisters; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Ernestine Hernandez is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Russell Leon Demers of Claypool passed away December 17 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Phoenix. He was 80. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; 3 children; his step son Glen Williams of Globe; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Russell Demers will be held Saturday (January 11) at 3:pm at Family Fellowship Church.

The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets today (Tuesday) at 10:am at the Gila County Courthouse.

Pastor Holds Community Meeting Tuesday in Tonto Basin

Gila County Supervisor Michael Pastor will hold a Community Meeting Tuesday at 5:pm at Tonto Basin Elementary School.


Dr. Jeremy Rowe Returns to Miami Hardscrabble Series

Dr. Jeremy Rowe will return to the monthly Miami Hardscrabble Series next Wednesday, January 15.

His presentation will include more pictures of the very early days of Arizona.

It begins at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center.

The event is free with light refreshments following the program.


Miami Council Work Session Tonight

The Miami Town Council will have a Work Session tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

The only item on the agenda is a discussion and recommendations to staff about updates and changes to the proposed Town of Miami Personnel Manual.


Police Log

No injuries were reported in a two vehicle collision yesterday afternoon on Highway 60.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision Saturday evening on South Hill Street.

Last night Globe Police arrested a juvenile in connection with a burglary at a residence on North Broad Street.

On Saturday, Globe Police took a report of a theft. After an investigation the item was recovered and returned to the owner.

48 year old Josph Root was arrested Saturday for trespassing at a business on South Hill Street.

22 year old Aubrey Moran was arrested on Friday for disorderly conduct on North Main Street.

27 year old Gilbert Rivera was arrested in the area of Hackney Hill on warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct/assault.

Officers are investigating an assault that occurred early Saturday morning in the area of South and Third streets; a report of telephone harassment; and a burglary on East Monroe.

On Saturday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50 year old Joseph Jayne on a contempt of court warrant for attempted shoplifting.

Deputies are investigating a disturbance at Javalina Hill; a theft at a residence on Mill Road; trespassing at a residence on Highway 188; trespassing at a residence on Montecito; and trespassing at the Yellow Hair mine.
